Congratulations to April’s Rotary Student of the Month Abdon Diaz

On April 8th, 20 enthusiastic Fall River high school students competed in the Trailways South Math Meet at Fall River. Fall River took 5th place overall.

Some honorable mentions include: Sam Salzman placed 8th on the individual algebra test, the algebra team placed 2nd, Josh Dietzenbach placed 5th on the individual geometry test, the geometry team placed 4th, and the Algebra 1 team placed 4th.

This year, the science department will be hosting the Science Fair! On Wednesday, May 15 at 1:30pm in the elementary gym, Grades 6 through 9 are building and investigating different aspects of science and engineering that interest them. In addition, the high school science students are hosting science activities for the elementary students during that time. All community members are welcome to join in the science fun!

On April 1st, fourteen high school students participated in the Trailways Conference Academic Bowl in Horicon. The contest consisted of a written test (Science, Language Arts, or Social Studies) and an oral team test (Science, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Current Events). Fall River placed 5th overall as a team, Eliza Peetz finished 3rd in grammar, and Josh Frank brought home the gold medal in the individual

Geography written test! The team members were as follows: Science-Hailey Lange, Helena Nashold, Caleb Slotten, Kendra Meier, Maddie Gregorio; Language Arts-Zac Mickelson, Eliza Peetz, Madelyn Dombroski, Karlee Van Gysel, Maddy Sauer; Social Studies-Aaron Abegglen, Josh Frank, Sophia Pawlisch, Zach Metz.

Wow! What a great morning! On April 4th our 7th/8th grade Math Meet team finished 2nd overall as a team and will advance on to the MEGA Meet at Madison College on May 22nd! Along with finishing 2nd overall as a team, Josh Dietzenbach also finished 1st overall in his individual scores! Josh placed 1st within our Fall River team and Daniel Mazzocchi finished 2nd within our Fall River team! Awesome job everyone! Another great Math Meet in the books! The 5th/6th Grade Math Meet team competed in Albany on April 11th and brought home a 1st place trophy! They will compete again at the MEGA Math Meet on May 20 in Madison. Pierce Abegglen had the highest score individually on the Fall River team and 5th highest overall. Cecelia Tavs had the second highest individual score on the Fall River team. Great job! Madison O’Brion Becomes 2019-2020 FBLA State ParliamentarianFBLA’s State Leadership Conference was held April 8 and 9th at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay.

During the closing ceremony, Madison was sworn in with the other WI FBLA State Officers, as the State Parliamentarian. Her major responsibility will be to help conduct all the meetings of the State Officer’s team from now until next year’s State Conference.Dominique Landvatter joined Madison at State as a participant in the Legacy Academy. Motivational Speaker Patty Hendrickson led this leadership training, as well as, touring several places in Green Bay. Fall River’s FBLA joined with Rio’s FBLA, as these “Rebels” enjoyed their time at State!

MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCEMonday May 27th, 2019 at 9:30 AM at Fall River School Multi-Purpose Room

The community is invited to a Memorial Day observance which will be held at the Fall River School on Monday, May 27th starting at 9:30 am. Elementary students will lead the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance. The High School Band and Choir will be performing musical selections. The ceremony will conclude at the park by the river where we will place wreaths in the River for each branch of the military. Students/Community members can also throw flowers in the river in remem-brance of a loved one that served in the military. This year’s guest speaker will be Tina Howie, granddaughter of CPT William Hughes. CPT Hughes served in the US Army during World War II. He was a West Point Graduate and served some time in Japan. He was also a former science teacher at Fall River High School. The public is invited to a potluck dinner at Savanna Oaks following the ceremony. Please bring a dish to pass and your own place settings. The VFW will provide brats, burgers and beverages. If anyone has family members currently serving overseas please provide their names, ranks, branch of service and deployed location to Charmaine Schultz by May 21st.Email: [email protected]. All 9th and 10th grade students will be taking the ACT Aspire Early High School test on Wednesday, May 8, 2019. ACT Aspire Early High School is a summative assessment that measures what students have learned in the areas of English, Reading, Math, Science and Writing. ACT Aspire Early High School scores are good predictors of how a student may perform on both the ACT and ACT WorkKeys when they reach 11th grade.The testing will take place here at school and the testing day will begin at 9:00 am (late start day). Breakfast will be available in the cafeteria from 8:00 am to 9:00 am. Students will need to report to their assigned rooms by 9:00 am. Lunch will be provided by the district at approximately 12:25 pm. Testing should last until 3:20 pm. Dear Fall River School District Parents/Guardians,The Blessings in a Backpack program is available for all Fall River School District students. The program is designed to provide non-perishable food every Friday to children who would benefit from supplemental nourishment over the weekend. Bags will be dispensed in a discreet and caring manner. This program will run for the remainder of this school year and we will re-enroll at the beginning of next school year. There is no cost associated with this program. The letter to sign-up was sent home with all elementary students. It can also be found by the lower office or on the school website under Parents and Community/Forms/Blessings in a Backpack. Kwik Trip Gift CardsThe girls’ basketball team has an ongoing

fundraiser to help with summer camps and tournaments. The fundraiser consists of selling Kwik Trip Gift Cards that can be used for gas or

other purchases. There is no additional cost to the buyer. We currently have cards in $10, $20, $25,

I. Call To Order/Pledge of Allegiance by Keith Miller, School Board President The meeting was called to order at 6:03 p.m.

II. Roll Call Board Member Attendance: Keith Miller, Paul Osterhaus, Warren Koenig, Ashley Morton, Dr. Michael Garrow, Andrea Stier, Ryan Verrier, Brian Zacho and 3 community/staff members and visitors present. Absent: Ember Schultz

III. Public Comment: None

IV. Student Council Update Babysitting for Booster Bash on April 6 Concessions during Math Meet on April 8 Celebrating Earth Day on April 19, will be assisting in roadside trash pickup

V. Approval of Past Board of Education Meeting Minutes A motion was made by Paul Osterhaus and seconded by Warren Koenig to approve the February 20, 2019 Regular School Board Meeting Minutes. Motion carried by a unanimous voice vote with no objections.

VI. Treasurer’s Report presented by Ashley Morton Book Balance Start Previous: $6,213,693.35 Other Items: -$100,213.12 Receipts and Banking: $929,435.85 Checks and Wires: $290,229.68 Payroll: $200,123.06 February Ending Month Balance: $6,552,563.34

A motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report, subject to usual audits and discoveries, was made by Paul Osterhaus and seconded by Ashley Morton. Motion carried by a unanimous voice vote with no objections.

VII. Payments of Vouchers/Payroll A motion was made by Warren Koenig and seconded by Ashley Morton to approve payment of vouchers 418586-418821 and 201800159-201800284 = $288,879.68 and the approval of payment of the March 30, 2019 and April 13, 2019 payroll. Motion carried by a unanimous voice vote with no objections.

IX. Committee Reports A. Building and Grounds: The B & G Committee met on Monday, March 4, 2019. Costs were reviewed for the Buildings at Prairie Street and the overall financial picture of the project at Prairie Street was also reviewed. In addition, Paul Osterhaus and Dr. Garrow had a meeting with Oliver Construction to go through plans (page by page) and identified areas that needed further clarification. Discussed flooring options throughout the school and the Proposed Roadway Agreement with the Village of Fall River.

XI. New Business A. A motion was made by Keith Miller and seconded by Paul Osterhaus to approve the RLOC with

the following amendments: add name of Business Manager (Andy Christensen) and additional Where As statement “Recorded as approved at the March 20, 2019 Board Meeting by a roll-call vote of 4-0”. Motion carried by a unanimous voice vote with no objections.

B. A motion was made by Paul Osterhaus and seconded by Ashley Morton to approve the Summer Custodial/Maintenance Workers as presented. Motion carried by a unanimous voice vote with no objections.

C. Received lawyer’s feedback on the Proposed Roadway Agreement with Village of Fall River. The document is not ready to move forward as presented and will need to be rewritten. Emergency Board Meeting will be held week of March 25, 2019 to approve redraft.

D. A winter activities report was provided by Mr. Cody Schultz. A season summary of HS and MS Boys and Girls Basketball was covered, including award winners and all-conference winners.

E. A motion was made by Keith Miller and seconded by Paul Osterhaus to approve the early college credit program for three students as presented. Motion carried by a unanimous voice vote with no objections.

F. A motion was made by Keith Miller and seconded by Ashley Morton to approve the revision on policy 443.4 Student Alcohol and Other Drug Use. Motion carried by a unanimous voice vote with no objections.

G. A motion was made by Keith Miller and seconded by Ashley Morton to approve the second reading on policy 422.1 Foreign Exchange Program Students. Motion carried by a unanimous voice vote with no objections.

H. A motion was made by Keith Miller and seconded by Warren Koenig to approve the final make-up day of school on Friday, June 7 as a professional development day for PreK-5 staff. Motion carried by a unanimous voice vote with no objections.

I. A discussion was held on pool area and future plan for acoustics, diving boards and flooring. The pool depth requirements for a high-dive need to be researched as well as what the added insurance cost would be to the District if the high-dive was kept in place. Discussion will be continued during the April Board Meeting.

J. Staffing Recommendations: i. Hiring: A motion was made by Paul Osterhaus and seconded by Ashley Morton to approve the hiring of Mr. Kevin Book, GEDO II Instructor. Motion carried by a unanimous voice vote with no objections. ii. Resignations: A motion was made by Ashley Morton and seconded by Warren Koenig to approve the resignation of Jennifer Traeder, FCS Teacher. Motion carried by a unanimous voice vote with no objections.

XII. District Reports A. Building and Grounds Report was presented by Dr. Garrow

In addition to the work on the Prairie Street project, there has been meetings with multiple vendors on flooring for main hallways, pool deck, locker rooms and bathrooms; reconfiguration/improvements to the IMC; bleachers for the main gym; and basketball hoops and framing for the main gym.

Over the next several weeks, plans will be finalized for the bleachers, library revisions and flooring areas to bring forward to the B & G Committee for approval.

Paul Marks and Dr. Garrow have met with Bassett Mechanical with the intention of reducing coverage and/or changing companies.

B. Elementary Principal Report was presented by Mr. Verrier Thank you to Mrs. Koch, Mrs. Liebenthal and other staff members for their help in

getting ready for testing. There will be one additional test in the 4th grade. The first session of summer school will run June 10-28, second session will run July 8-26.

There are many staff interested in teaching these classes. Information will be sent out after spring break.

C. MS/HS Principal Report was presented by Mr. Zacho The last MS Dance of the year was held on Friday, March 15 and went well. Thank you to Mrs. Koch and Mrs. Liebenthal for their help in getting ready for testing. F data has gone down again, totals are down in all categories.

D. District Administrator Report was presented by Dr. Garrow Next month, finalized plans for compensation for support and certified staff, as well as

revisions to the Employee Handbook for 2019-2020 will be brought forward. Over the next week and Spring Break, meetings with Oliver Contruction will be held,

crisis planning documents will be finalized, and Educator Effectiveness plans for specialized staff will be completed (with Mr. Verrier and Mr. Zacho).

XIII. Motion to adjourn to Closed Executive Session as per Wisconsin Statue 19.85(1)(c), for considering employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data of any public employee over which the government body has jurisdiction or exercised responsibility (Administrative responsibilities)

*Remember to register for all Rec Activities online at https://fallriver-ar.rschooltoday.com/ *Swim Lessons/Fitness Class Instructors Wanted!! If you are interested in teaching a class at the Fall River Recreation Center, please contact Cody Schultz.

*Weight Room and Gym are open M-F 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The Pool is open M & Thur 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. On the weekends, the Weight Room, Pool and Gym are open from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Pool lanes are avail-able to put in the pool for lap swimming during open swim upon patron request to lifeguard.

*The Fitness Center is hiring for Lifeguards. Lifeguards must be 16yrs old (or turn 16 by time of employ-ment). Not a Certified Lifeguard??? We offer Lifeguard Certification training classes (paid for if you work for the Fitness Center upon completion of course). Positions are 2-10 hours/week (possibly more during the Summer). Must be able to work Nights AND Weekends. Please contact the Recreation Director with any questions you may have.
