THE SCHOOL HYMN
OUR Father, by Whose servantOur house was built of old,Whose hand hath crowned her childrenWith blessings manifold,For Thine unfailing merciesFar strewn along our way,With all who passed before us,We praise Thy Name today.
Four hundred years enduring,From age to following age,A hundred generations,Have built our heritage:Their name is long forgotten,Long spent their hopes and fears:Safe rest they in Thy keeping,Who changes! not with years.
They reap not where they laboured:We reap what they have sown:Our harvest may be garneredBy ages yet unknown:The days of old have dowered usWith gifts beyond all praise:Our Father, make us faithfulTo serve the coming days.
Before us and beside usStill holden in Thine hand,A cloud unseen of witness,Our elder comrades stand; One family unbroken,We join, with one acclaim,One heart, one voice uplifting,To glorify Thy Name.
G. W. BRIGGS (O.L.)

OUR FOUNDER
Thomas Burton, the Town's greatest 'benefactor, died in 1496, and liesburied in the Parish Church. The Report of Henry VIII's Commissionersmentions a Chantry "Bounded by Thomas Burton for one Preste to celebrateDyvyne Service w'then the pish Church of Loughboroughe," and says thatthe office was then void.
In 1495 Burton conveyed his lands to trustees by deed, but withoutmention of the trust. But in 1597, when new trustees were appointed, theupkeep of the School was one of the objects mentioned. The Inscription onthe Burton Tablet in the Parish Church is as follows: —
