Providing Help, Creating HopeEnabling Healing

The staff of Catholic Charities of Los Angeles feel compassion toward our clients, who have been in distress more than usual, due to the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Staff members’ compassion is shown by their kind service to help reduce sources of the clients’ stress.

Physically, many of our clients have basic needs of food, clothing and shelter. In addition to supplying those physical necessities, Catholic Charities provides caring service, helping clients reduce stress to heal emotionally, mentally, socially and spiritually.

Emotionally, many of our clients suffer from fear, irritation and anger. At Catholic Charities’ shelters and community centers, staff listen and provide therapeutic counseling, helping to relieve some of the clients’ stress and feelings of helplessness.

Mentally, many of our clients have anxiety, depression, lack of purpose, low motivation and few problem-solving skills. At Catholic Charities’ job training programs, after-school tutoring, adult education, health and nutrition classes and case management services, staff encourage and advise the clients, offering ways to help them to enhance their mental skills and improve their motivation.

Socially, physical distancing causes feelings of isolation, withdrawal and loneliness in many of our clients. At youth services, programs for seniors, summer camps, Christmas and holiday programs, Catholic Charities furnishes welcoming social support that helps clients feel cared for and not so isolated.

Spiritually, many of our clients have lost hope, and cannot find meaning and purpose in what is happening to them. Staff provide compassionate service at our community centers and shelters, and also at programs such as Esperanza Immigrant Rights Project and Immigration and Refugee Resettlement, resulting in clients recovering their sense of resilience, trust, hopefulness and peace.

At Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, we are very grateful to you, our generous supporters. You empowered us to Provide Help for our clients, with the physical necessities of food, clothing and shelter, to Create Hope in our clients for a better tomorrow, and to Enable Healing of our clients, emotionally, mentally, socially and spiritually, during FY 2021-2022.

Children who are residents of Good Shepherd Shelter relax and enjoy the campus garden, a welcome respite from their previous experience with domestic violence.

Since 1919, Catholic Charities has served the needy and impoverished residents of Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties by providing emergency food and shelter, case management and supportive services. All programs help to enable clients to become more self-sufficient.

With the financial support of individual donors, churches, foundations, corporations, organizations and federal, state and local governments, as well as in collaboration with other social service agencies, Catholic Charities of Los Angeles rendered almost 600,000 services during the past fiscal year (July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022). Without the help of these dedicated partners, the human services’ work of Catholic Charities could not continue.

◆ Join the Joyful Givers Circle – Make a monthly pledge commitment as part of this group of dedicated contributors.

◆ Donate Your Old Vehicle – Hand over the keys to your car, truck, R.V. or boat and Catholic Charities will receive 80% of the sales revenue. Call (855) 370-4483 or visit our website: www.CatholicCharitiesLA.org/donate-your-vehicle/.

◆ Have Your Employer Match Your Gift – Contact your company’s Human Resources Department to obtain a matching gift form.

◆ Make a Memorial or Tribute Gift – Honor someone special by making a donation in his or her name.

◆ Support through Planned Giving – Give through wills and trusts, charitable gift annuities, life insurance, appreciated securities, real estate, cash and other property. Visit www.ccla.plannedgiving.org to discover the variety of charitable choices and calculate what works for you.

◆ Give to the Fund for the Future Endowment – Become a member of the Fund for the Future Society by contributing to Catholic Charities’ long-term endowment. Through estate gift and life income programs, the endowment expands the agency’s financial base so that it will continue to grow and meet the increasing needs of the communities Catholic Charities serves.

Client Jeffrey Scott relies on Catholic Charities’ Santa Barbara Food Pantry to keep him supplied with food during difficult times. The Santa Barbara Community Services Center also provides financial assistance, counseling services and help for seniors with companion dogs.

The work of Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, including our financial and service delivery practices, is externally validated by the Council on Accreditation. Our commitment to accountability and transparency is authenticated by our coveted Four-Star Charity rating from Charity Navigator, an independent charity evaluator.

Our community centers continue to witness a rise in the number of people who struggle to survive and who seek critical basic needs’ assistance. While Catholic Charities has significantly developed its programs and services over the years, we still face considerable challenges in meeting our clients’ growing population and needs. Here are some ways you can assist us in serving our vulnerable clients:
