STOCKHOLM SHOPPING GUIDE

Although each of us have our own unique approach to shopping we all love doing it in Stockholm. Some of us know exactly

what we want to buy while others have no idea – all we know is we want to do some shopping. It really doesn’t matter what type of shopper you are because in Stockholm you’ll find something for everyone.

STOCKHOLM SHOPPINGGUIDE

When you´re done, exploring Stockholm´s fashion stores, you can rest your legs at one of the largest complex of cinemas in the Nordic countries. Also don´t miss Hötorgshallen – one of the most popular food markets in Stockholm.

Major shopping streets

Major shopping streets, such as Biblioteksgatan, Birger Jarlsgatan, Kungsgatan and Drottninggatan

should also not be missed. Another delightful street located at Östermalm a stone throw away from Sture-plan, to stroll along is Humlegårdsgatan. At one end of this exciting street you will find the historic food market hall called Östermalmshallen. At the other end is Stockholm’s most beautiful park named Humle-gården. In between, there is a delicious selection of stores in fashion and home furnishings. Whole clearly worth a stroll.

The historical center of Stockholm

Also worth a mention is the cultural and historical center of Stockholm, Gamla Stan (The Old Town). This lovely part of Stockholm offers numerous bouti-ques for every interest. With its unique mix of shops and centuries old architecture, Gamla Stan is sure to impress!

Down to earth shopping

Gamla Brogatan, is one of Sweden’s most famous crossroads. This street is more down to earth in its feeling. It crosses Drottninggatan at PUB. In this part of town, the old ”Klara Blocks” were then, as they are now, a glorious mix of clothing stores and other interesting shops. Famous destinations such as Impo, Puss och Kram, Salvation, Waterloo and Sko-Uno made up what was then called Sweden’s Carnaby Street, but most have disappeared since that time. In 1987 Clara Arbetarbod closed its do-ors after being in business since 1948 and the Lee-Wrangler store became its proud inheritor.

City parts divided by water

Since Stockholm is a city divided by water, it might prove difficult for first-time visitors to find their way around the various parts of the city. It is highly recommended to take a taxi when going from one place to another. Just stick with the reputable names like Taxi Stockholm, Taxi Kurir, Taxi 020, Sverigetaxi and Top Cab. Also, be cautious about the so-called ”free-riders” who have chosen names similar to the established taxi companies. A ride

Karla Cafe is just what Stockholm lacked a fashio-nable and elegant brunch restaurant you can also visit towards the evening hours. And it’s really the

word that fits Karla Café; sober, sophisticated and charming. Here, young students bring a lunch, work colleagues have an AW, or you can sense an elderly couple sit in them colored armchairs and read today’s news. People with visual impairments have been making brushes using the time-honored techni-ques of traditional Swedish craftsmanship for more than a hundred years when Iris opened the first brush manufacturing shop. they make an instinctive commitment to work with only small suppliers in Sweden. Another unique craft shop in Stockholm where you can find wonderful and comfortable cardigans with a perfect fit in merino wool with excellent quality is named Edursdotter. The name comes from the foun-der Christina Edursdotter. Here in the shop there are cardigans in more than thirty different patterns and colors to choose among for ladies, children and men. It´s a must to visit this shop and try them on! Isn’t the size well fitted? Are the sleeves too short or the sweater´s bottom too narrow? Would you like a collar instead of a hood? They will gladly help you with a customized order. Everything is produced in their workroom in Kinna, Sweden by Christina, Eva, Anna Maria and Gun.

From fabric to fabric

Tygverket (Fabric plant) has two stores in Södermalm and a web shop. We have an extensive and inspi-ring range of fabrics and accessories. Thanks to

direct and international contacts, we can keep our prices low without sacrificing the quality. We have sewing machines for hire and you can get tutoring or participate in sewing courses at the shop on S:t Paulsgatan 3.

Crafts to make you happy

Krabat makes you happy. In one of the shops, ”matu-res” customers can satisfy their craving for playful and creative international design. Delicate candleholders by Fafner from the island of Gotland and colorful textiles from Marimekko can be found here. The two other stores focus on toys made by hand for the “little ones.” This is not the place to find something for computer nerds.

Swedish handicraft in one store

If you appreciate modern handicrafts alongside tra-ditional items then you have to visit Svensk Hemslöjd (Society for Swedish Handicrafts) in their store at Norrlandsgatan 20 in Stockholm. They offer a wide selection of unique art and handicrafts by some of Sweden’s best artisans. If you´re an art and handi-craft lover, this is a must visit. You won’t be disap-pointed.

Genuine Swedish craftsmanship

The family business Klässbols Linneväveri was foun-ded in 1920 and run today by third and fourth gene-ration Johansson. Klässbols manufactures tablecloths, napkins, runners, towels, curtains, upholstery etc. in 100% linen for both private and public settings. All manufacturing is done in their weaving mill in Kläss-bol, Sweden. Their linen products can now be seen at the annual Nobel banquet, and on all Swedish embassies around the world. They also have the ho-nor of Royal Warrant. Welcome to their Showroom and shop at Sveavä-gen 104 in Stockholm. Enjoy today’s lunchat theVeranda

Grand Hôtel’s Veranda is a classic meeting place in Stockholm, as popular for business lunches as for a relaxed rendez-vous with family and friends. Homemade, tasty food is served every day of the year. The chefs are renowned internationally, not least because of theVeranda’s annual theme buffets, such as the Easter buffet, the Seafood specials and the Västerbotten theme. The classic, Swedish smörgåsbord is served all year round and deserves at least one visit, as does the Christmas buffet. The food in combination with the atmosphere, the service and the beautiful view makes the Veranda a natural choice, for lunch as well as dinner.
