5th SCS international fide rated open chess tournament - Chess (boys & girls) Report:

Top seed IM P Shyamnikhil of Integral Coach Factory wins the fifth edition of the

Sivakasi Chess Sparklers FIDE rated tournament held at Mepco Schlenk Engineering College,

Sivakasi from 14th to 17th April 2019. Shyamnikhil finished with a staggering 100% score of 8.0/8

and earned ₹70000 cash and a beautiful trophy. Untitled B Selvamurugan of Tamil Nadu, scored

7.0/8, finished at 2nd position and won ₹50000 cash and a trophy. FM P Maheswaran of Postal also

finished at 7.0/8. Due to a lesser tie-break score, he had to settle for 3rd position. He received

₹35000 cash and a trophy. Both of them suffered their only loss of the tournament against the

Er.S.PAVANASAM, Assistant Executive Engineer, Town Sub Division, TNEB; Sivakasi was the

Chief Guest. Selvan J.Akash Michael IVth year Bio-Tech was the champion among the boys and

received the Sv.K.M.Ramalingam Champion Boys Gold Medal and Selvi M.Sangareshwari Ist

year IT was the Champion Girl and received the Sv.K.M.Ramalingam Champion Girls Gold Medal

for the year 2017 – 2018.

The men players are divided into 6 houses and the women players into Four houses.

Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi hosted the Second State Level Faculty

Doubles Badminton Tournament on 29th

& 30th

December 2017. In that 28 faculty members from

various colleges had participated.

KLN College of Engineering, Madurai Secured the Second Place.

Doubles Badminton Tournament for Faculty Members of Engineering Colleges in the State of

Tamilnadu on 18th

& 19th

December 2016. 20 Teams from various colleges participated in the

tournaments.

PSR Engineering College won the First Place.

Kamaraj College of Engineering & Technology become the Runners-up.

Dr.S.Arivazhagan, Principal, Mepco Schlenk Engineering College distributed the Prizes and

gave the Presidential Address. Mr.J.Billy Graham, Director of Physical Education gave the Vote of

Mini Marathon (Men & Women) Report:

Mepco Mini Marathon 2016 was held on at Mepco Schlenk Engineering College. Totally

350 students (Boys and Girls) participated in the race. Dr.S.Arivazhagan, Principal flagged the race

sharply at 6:30 am. Mrs.A.M.K.Saliha Banu coordinated the race.

Our college organized Anna University Zone 18 Basketball tournament on 26th

Mepco Mini Marathon 2017 was held on 16th September, 2017 at Mepco Schlenk

Engineering College. Totally 558 students participated in the race. Mr. D.Babu, The physical

Instructor welcomed the athletes. Dr. S. Arivazhagan, Principal flagged the race sharply at 6:35

a.m. Mr. P.Muthu Jothiraj, III B.E. (Civil) secured the FIRST place in the boy’s race. Ms.

M.Sangareshwari, I B.E. (IT) secured the FIRST place in the girl’s event. Dr. S. Arivazhagan,

Principal honoured the winners. Mr.N.Lingaraj, Physical Instructor delivered the vote of thanks.

Virudhunagar, Sivakasi participated.

Badminton Men

11 Engineering Colleges participated in the Men Badminton Tournament. The teams are

divided into 3 pools and League matches were organized and selected 6 teams. The Winners of the

pool are grouped in one pool and organized League matches are decided First Three Places. The

Runners of the pool played League matches and decide Fourth Fifth & Sixth Place.

Badminton Women

6 Engineering Colleges participated in the Women Badminton Tournament. The teams are

divided into two pools and League matches were organized. Four teams were selected and knock

out matches are organized.

Mepco Trophy (College) – Volleyball & Badminton Report:

A State Level Inter Engineering College Volley Ball and Badminton Tournament for Men

and Women has been organized by the Department of Physical Education of Mepco Schlenk

Engineering College Sivakasi as MEPCO TROPHY on 24th

to 26th

July 2014. 12 Men teams and

5 Women teams for Volley Ball and 11 Men Teams and 7 Women Teams for Badminton spread

over Tamilnadu participated in this Tournament. The Tournament was inaugurated by

Dr.S.Arivazhagan, Principal, Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi on 24th

July 2014 and

distributed the MEPCO TROPHY 2014 and the Certificates to first four place winners on 26th

July

2014.

5.3.3 Cultural activities/competitions organized at the institution level for the year 2018-19

Gyan Mitra ’19 Report:

An Inter College National level Techno Management Symposium by all Co-Curricular clubs

were organized on 08.02.2019 & 09.02.2019. Various events and guest lectures were organized on

that date. Students from various colleges participated in the competitions and a grand cultural event

was organized by our Fine arts team on the day of function.

FIESTA’ 19 Report:

Fiesta’19 an intra-college cultural competition was organized by a joint act of Fine arts club,

Literary Association, Photography club, Readers club, Innovative Club, NSS, Blue Sky, Health

Club and Consumer Club of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi on 02.02.2019.

The office bearers of various clubs worked tirelessly to make the events challenging, fun

and thought-provoking. These events sought to uncover the musical, artistic and literary talents of

the students. The registrations were opened a month earlier and were done through our website.

This year we witnessed a staggering 1345 participants who enthusiastically registered and took part

in the events of their liking. Students enthusiastically participated in Fiesta’19 in 19 events. The

event was conducted at 13 venues inside the campus, encouraged and supported by the mammoth

audience of more than 3500.

Like icing on a cake, it was indeed a blessing to have Mr.S.T.Sivaraman, Producer – A&G

Division, Technicolor India, Bengaluru (Alumnus of our college passed out in 2001 – BE CSE), as

our honoured chief guest for the valedictory ceremony. He also graciously gave away the prizes to

the winners of each event. It was especially fulfilling to see the satisfied and proud looks on the

faces of the prize winners. In the end, Fiesta'19 served as a platform for many to discover their

hidden potentials and bring them forward to the limelight. Dr.S.Arivazhagan, Principal of Mepco

Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi, presided over the valedictory function.

Pongal Day Cultural Program Report:

Fine arts club & Literary Association celebrated Pongal Day at Mepco Convention Centre

(MCC) on 18.01.2019 especially for the hostellers. As a part celebration the college fine arts team

has arranged for Tamil cultural programme where the students enjoyed the day with cheering

applause.

LEGACY'18 Report:

The ostentatious feat of Legacy’18, an Inter college cultural competition starts on 31st

August 2018 anticipating fiery Participation of students all over Tamilnadu. This feat was held for 2

days (31st August -1st September) with a blistering participation of 812 participants from 54

colleges around the state. This was a fleet mainly excursed by 9 extracurricular clubs of the college,

i.e. Fine arts, Literary, NSS, Readers, Photography, Blue Sky, Innovative, consumer, Health club

and made it an ardent success. Art gallery was organized displaying the works of our students.

From the rousing website, there were around 1300 plus registrations from various colleges.

It was dazing to have organized around 31 events which had amazing responses from the onlookers.

The spectators were enthralled by the dazzling performances by the very endowed participants.

There we around 250 organizers from various clubs who unwearyingly worked all day long to make

it a colossal success and the staff advisors of various clubs who hurled them around to make the

best use of the resources were the tower of light. As every great errand has its end, we had our

valedictory ceremony on 1st of September after the successful completion of all the events with

Indra Soundarjan, a well-known Tamil author as the guest of honour who gave away Prizes and

certificates to the winners as the relic of appreciation in the presence of Dr.S.Arivazhagan, who

presided over the function with the convivial help of Dr.T.Prabaharan, Convenor of Legacy’18 , In

which the overall trophy was bagged by Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College, Sivakasi and the

overall runner up trophy was bagged by M.Kumarasamy College of Engineering, Karur. With much

more anticipation and zeal, they closed the curtains waving goodbye to the resplendent participants

hoping this would come up even more blazing the coming years.

Fiesta’18 Report:

Fiesta’18 an intra-college cultural competition was organized by a joint act of Fine arts club,

Literary Association, Photography club, Readers club, Innovative Club, NSS, Blue Sky, Health

Club and Consumer Club of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi on 03.03.2018. The

office bearers of various clubs worked tirelessly to make the events challenging, fun and thought-

provoking.

These events sought to uncover the musical, artistic and literary talents of the students. The

registrations were opened a month earlier and were done through our website. This year we

witnessed a more than 1500 participants who enthusiastically registered and took part in the events

of their liking. Students enthusiastically participated in Fiesta’18 in 17 events. The event was

conducted at 16 venues inside the campus, encouraged and supported by the mammoth audience of

more than 3000.

Gyan Mitra’18 Report:

An Inter College National level Techno Management Symposium by all Co-Curricular clubs

were organized on 16.02.2018 & 17.02.2018. Various events and guest lectures were organized on

that date. Students from various colleges participated in the competitions and a grand cultural event

was organized by our Fine arts team on the day of function.

Tamil Folk Dance Report:

The Students and the faculty members of Mepco Schlenk Engineering

College,(Autonomous) Sivakasi celebrated Pongal festival on 11.01.2018 at Mepco Convention

centre. As a part celebration the college fine arts team has arranged for Tamil cultural programme.

The cultural programme were performed by Oolai kudisai gramiya kalai kuzhu. The team was led

by Mr.Velmurugan. Various program that reflects tamil culture like Kaaliattam, Karagattam,

Oyilattam, silambattam and thapaattam were performed. Music played with traditional musical

instruments like tappu, parai ,tavil and nathaswaram inspire the audience to know the value of our

heritage. The honourable principal Dr.S.Arivazhagan greeted the performers and delivered the

Pongal message.

Pongal day cultural programme Report:

The Pongal day was celebrated on Jan 9. The celebration comprised of many cultural

events and the event commenced at 5.30 pm in MCC. The event started with Kavithai which

poetically explained the pongal’s necessity. It is followed by Skit which is performed by boys and

the concept is based on Gandhiji’s famous dialogue “Villages are the backbone of our country”.

They have made us to visualize how villages and village people will be during the festival times

especially during pongal. Then it is followed by folk dance, which comprised of Karakattam,

Oyillatam and folk dance which made the audience to feel like a single stage filled with dancers of

different troops. Then came the girl’s skit team. They explained what is actually going on in the 4

days of pongal in every homes now-a-days and explained why each day of pongal is celebrated.

They came up with different morals regarding how the food habits in those of old times helped

those in leading a healthy life and so on. Then came the colorful dance team of girls, who all

danced for different gramiya songs and folk songs. Then the most powerful and astonishing part of

the event is the tamizh peoples’ bravery game (VEERA VILAYATTU) Silambam. It was

extremely overwhelming to watch a student doing silambam by closing his eyes with some shawl

and also he did rotating a rope like thing which has a stand to fit a glass full of juice and he didn’t

splashed even a single drop. Then the finishing touch was given by boys dance team whose

performance rocked the entire audience.

The entire function was witnessed by Principal, HODs, faculty members and students with

MCC overwhelming response.

Mega Musical Event Report:

The orchestra team of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College performed a Mega Musical

Event on 11.10.17 at Mepco conventional centre during 5 to 6 pm. The event was conducted for

one hour. Members of the orchestra performed a variety of light music songs from recent and past

films. Enthusiastic Audience of around 800 supported the orchestra with their encouraging claps.

Recent hits songs from the film “Vikram Vedha and Power Pandi” were applauded well. Later Hari

Vignesh of II Year Mech, Emmanuael of Final Mech and Lenin of III Year Civil performed

instrumental fusion.

Also Rajavel of II biotech, Gopal of Final CSE, Shruthi of II CSE and Harini of II civil were

the members of the orchestra, who contributed to the show.

Legacy 2k17 Report:

The ostentatious feat of Legacy’17, an Inter college cultural competition starts on 8th

September 2017 anticipating fiery Participation of students all over Tamilnadu. This feat was held

for 2 days (8th -9th September) with a blistering participation of 625 participants from 28 colleges

around the state. This was a fleet mainly excursed by 9 extracurricular clubs of the college, i.e. Fine

arts, Literary, NSS, Readers, Photography, Blue Sky, Innovative, consumer, Health club and made

it an ardent success. Art gallery was organized displaying the works of our students.

From the rousing website, there were around 1000 plus registrations from 52 plus colleges.

It was dazing to have organized around 30 events which had amazing responses from the onlookers.

The spectators were enthralled by the dazzling performances by the much endowed participants. As

a feather to the cap, there were renowned guests in which one of them happened to be Nyayiru

Pattimandram fame Mr.Avani Madasamy for the inaugural Function as a chief guest. There we

around 250 organizers from various clubs who unwearyingly worked all day long to make it a

colossal success and the staff advisors of various clubs who hurled them around to make the best

use of the resources were the tower of light. As every great errand has its end, we had our

valedictory ceremony on 9th of September after the successful completion of all the events with

Dr.L.Rajaram, Joint secretary of Sree Sangeetha Sathguru Samajam as the guest of honour who

gave away Prizes and certificates to the winners as the relic of appreciation in the presence of

Dr.S.Arivazhagan. who presided over the function with the convivial help of Dr.T.Prabaharan,

Convenor of Legacy’17 , In which the overall trophy was bagged by Thiyagarajar college of

engineering, Madurai and the overall runner up trophy was bagged by M.Kumarasamy College of

Engineering, Karur. With much more anticipation and zeal, they closed the curtains waiving

goodbye to the resplendent participants hoping this would come up even more blazing the coming

years.

Overall Winner Trophy was bagged by Thiyagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai.

Overall Runner up Trophy was bagged by M.Kumarasamy College of Engineering, Karur.

Thol Paavai koothu a traditional stage play famous in Tamilnadu and kerala was organized

by our fine arts team to encourage the traditional arts on 11.08.2017 & 12.08.2017. Series of plays

Ponniyin selvan drama Report:

“Ponniyin Selvan Drama” is a very famous “Tamil Historical Drama” staged by SS

International Arts, Music Academy, Chennai. The stage show is tentatively planned during 2nd, 3rd

and 4th of February 2017. The corresponding expected expenditure for 3 days shows (Total of 5

days including stage setting and rehearsal) for 75 members team. Dumbstruck by the 4 hour

caricature it was quite impossible to wink or stop the standing ovation. That was some true piece of

art!!What are we talking about???yes indeed the history brought to real by the team SS

International Live and Magic Lantern by Mr.Ilango Kumanan and directed by Mr.Praveen. The epic

“Ponniyin Selven”... it was indeed a magic tat flipped us through centuries in seconds and seemed

like we were indeed a part of the epoch. It was not just a play it was a treasure unlocked to tell us

how proud we should be to entitle our self as being a part of Tamilnadu. Amazing us with

astonishing performances of a crew of 58 artists, they sure did gather aficionados all the three days

they were here. Our day of exhilaration started on 02.02.17 to 04.02.17 and had a perpetual

extolation from everyone till then, leaving us with a crave to want more of a visual treat. It was

difficult bidding good bye to the finest squad but it was quite staggering to see them giving their

views heart out. Any grand start slowly winds up its way into a magnificent finish we did culminate

it up with an exquisite valedictory where the artists were honoured with memento from the

honourable principle and correspondent. And we had some amazing feedbacks from the principal

and managing heads of the college telling what we just wanted to express as an individual. And not

to forget we did see some adored artist speak sharing how great it was to perform. Every moment of

those 4 hours was an epitome of what it was to live in the 10th century .It did make us want to go

back and live there forever.

Republic Day Celebrations and Fiesta’17 an intra-college cultural competition was

Servainayakanpatti by Fine Arts students on 24/02/2015 where they performed Orchestra, Mime

and Group Dance. The people around the village enjoyed the show and applauded our students for

from other colleges after 5:00pm on 20/02/2015. Various events and guest lectures were organized

on that date. Students from various colleges participated in the competitions and a grand cultural

Legacy’14 Report:

Legacy ’14 following the success of its preceding venture Legacy ’13, expanded to

accommodate double its number of events to 30 spanning for 2 days, the 5th and 6th of September

2014. The event witnessed a participation of 616 dynamic student artists from around 29 premier

institutions in Tamil Nadu. The event was conducted at 11 venues inside the campus, encouraged

and supported by the mammoth audience of more than 1500. Thiru K Vaidhyanadhan (Editor,

Dinamani) presided over the Inaugural function on the 5th of September 2014 & Mr R Prabhaharar

(Professor, Dept. of Tamil, American College, Madurai) presided over the Valedictory ceremony

Fiesta’14 Report:

The fine arts club started the academic year by conducting the cultural fest FIESTA

14 on July 25, 2014. A total of about 5 events were organised and conducted successfully.

There was an overwhelming response when 400 and odd students responded for the event.

The event, as scheduled, was started at 9.00 am simultaneously in Mechanical seminar hall

and ECE seminal hall. About 25 student office bearers were involved in organising the event.

To make the joint more effective about 14 staff members were invited as judges. “Mime”, our

first event, was stage drama and was held at the Mechanical seminar hall. About 170 students

participated to exhibit their artistic talents via several themes. Nearly 22 teams with 7 to 8

members each enacted on the stage which lasted from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm. “Solo singing”,

the simultaneous event that took place in the ECE seminar hall, had 60 participant singers,

who sang out the voice in them. “Fashion Parade”, was held to bring out the modernism in

students minds. About 4 boys teams each with 10 members participated by taking up theme

based costumes.

Judges also had query time to question them about fashion and their theme related

questions. It took place at the Mechanical seminar hall from 12.00 pm to 12.40 pm.“Solo

instrumental event was paralleled at ECE seminar hall and about 10 students with their

instruments’ took the viewers to enjoyment. Regular lunch break was exercised and

participants were requested to be on time. “Choreo Broom”, the dance event was started

around 1.40 pm and involved various versions like solo dancing, Group dancing, and

Adaptive dancing, was students exhibited enormous talent and energy to woo the audience.

The event had a total of 120 and odd students who all finished dancing by 4.00 p.m. There

was enough time left to announce the winners for every event. The staff organiser

congratulated the organisers and winners.
