INTRODUCTIONSteve jobs the co founder chairman and CEO of apple was born on February 24, 1955 is admired today because of His contribution to the success of apple but he , in his childhood did a lot of struggle But later on he because of his hard work , dedication, and will to achieve something made apple reach great heights .As the CEO of the company jobs oversaw the development of iMac, iTunes, iPod, iPhone, and iPad . The success of these products and services provided several years of stable financial returns, and propelled apple to become the world ‘s most valuable publicly traded company in 2011.

FOCUS

• Focus was ingrained in Jobs' personality and had been honed by his Zen training. He relentlessly filtered out what he considered distractions. He did not believed in jus doing an average work rather his main FOCUS was to attain excellence in whichever product or service he provided .

• He began taking top 100 people on a retreat each year and used to note down what exactly can be done best ignoring the average points .

SIMPLIFY

• Jobs' Zenlike ability to focus was accompanied by the related instinct to simplify things by zeroing in on their essence and eliminating unnecessary components. Jobs aimed for the simplicity that comes from conquering, rather than merely ignoring, complexity. Achieving this depth of simplicity, he realized, would produce a machine that felt as if it deferred to users in a friendly way, rather than challenging them. During the design of the iPod interface, Jobs tried at every meeting to find ways to cut clutter. He insisted on being able to get to whatever he wanted in three clicks. He simplified all the apple devices so as to make it user friendly for the users.

TAKE RESPONIBILITY END TO END

• Jobs and Apple took end-to-end responsibility for the user experience—something too few companies do. From the performance of the ARM microprocessor in the iPhone to the act of buying that phone in an Apple Store, every aspect of the customer experience was tightly linked together. Jobs knew that the best way to achieve simplicity was to make sure that hardware, software, and peripheral devices were seamlessly integrated. It was an approach that did not always maximize short-term profits, but in a world filled with junky devices, inscrutable error messages, and annoying interfaces, it led to astonishing products marked by delightful user experiences.

WHEN BEHIND, LEAPFROG.• while building i Mac, he focused on leapfrog

where he wanted to innovate the product and wanted to make it out of the league.

• focused on making it useful for managing a user’s photos and videos, but it was left behind when dealing with music and its slot drive couldn’t burn CD’S.

• instead of upgrading I mac’s CD drive, he decided to create an integerated system and the result was combination of I Tunes, I Store and I Pod.

• after I pod became a huge success, jobs spent a little time relishing it, instead he began to worry what might endanger it.

• One possibility was that mobile phone makers would start adding music players to their handsets.

• cannibalized I pod’s sales by creating iPhone.

PUT PRODUCT BEFORE PROFIT

• when jobs and his team made the original macintosh in early 1980’s, his injuction was to make it “insanely great”. He never spoke of profit maximization or cost trade offs.

• jobs focused more on product quality rather than short term profits and ignoring a customer satisfaction.

• jobs passion was to build an enduring company where people were motivated to make great products.

DON’T BE A SLAVE FOR GROUPS

• When jobs took his original macintosh team on its first retreat, one member said that whether they should do some market research to see what customers wanted. But he said “no, because customers don’t know what they wanted until we have shown them.”

• “Our task is to read things that are not yet on the page”.

• He developed his appreciation for intuition—feelings that are based on accumulated experiential wisdom. “The people in the Indian countryside don’t use their intellect like we do they use their intuition instead.”

•jobs used a one focus group: himself. He made products that he and his friends wanted.

• “We made the iPod for ourselves,” he said, “and when you’re doing something for yourself, or your best friend or family, you’re not going to cheese out.”

BEND REALITY• jobs was more concerned about pushing people towards reality and extracting out the best from their hidden talents.

• while designing I phone he focused on a scratch proof glass, rather than plastic for which he met wendell weeks; the CEO of cornings who told him that corning had developed a chemical exchange process called “GORILLA GLASS”.

IMPUTE It emphasized that people form an opinion about a company or product based on the signals that it conveys. “People DO judge a book by its cover,”

•Acc to steve“We may have the best product, the highest quality, the most useful software etc.; if we present them in a slipshod manner, they will be perceived as slipshod; if we present them in a creative, professional manner, we will impute the desired qualities.

IPUSH FOR PERFECTION

initial design of iphone was a failure as it had

the glass screen set into an aluminum case. A similar thing happened to ipad it didn’t seem causal and friendly

enough.

TOLERATE ONLY “A” PLAYERS

•Jobs was famously impatient, petulant and tough with the people around him. But his treatment of people, though not laudable, emanated from his passion for perfection and his desire to work with only the best. It was his way of preventing what he called “the bozo explosion”, in which managers are so polite that mediocre people feel comfortable sticking around.

• Steve said “when he hire somebody really senior, competence is the ante”. They have o be really smart . But the real issue is that are they going to fall in love with apple? Because if they fall in love with apple,everything else will take care of itself.

• And they will do what is best for apple.

ENGAGE FACE TO FACE• steve was a big believer in face-to-face meetings.

•Jobs hated formal presentations, but he loved freewheeling face-to-face meetings. He gathered his executive team every week to kick around ideas without a formal agenda and he spent every Wednesday afternoon doing the same with his marketing and advertising team.

KNOW BOTH THE PICTURE AND THE DETAILS

•Steve job took into consideration both large and minuscule His salient feature was his ability and desire to envision overarching strategy while focusing on tiniest aspect of design

COMBINE THE HUMANITIES WITH SCIENCES

• Jobs connected humanities to sciences, creativity to technology and arts to engineering.

• There were many great designers and artists but no one could do what jobs did/

• He did it with an intuitive feel for business.

STAY HUNGRY, STAY FOOLISH• Job stayed hungry and foolish throughout his career and made sure that the business and engineering aspect of his personality was always complimented.

• He helped write the text for the “think different” ads: here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble makers. The round pegs in the square holes… “ if there was any doubt that , consciously or not , he was describing himself, he dispelled it with the last lines: “ while some see them as the crazy ones , we see genius.
