Histrocial Background

The beginnings of soft biometrics science were laid

by Alphonse Bertillon in the19th century, who firstly

introduced the idea for a personal identification

system based on biometric, morphological and

anthropometric determinations.

First AK Jain in 2004 introduced

the term Soft-Biometric

It is then further refined in 2010

by Antitza Dantcheva

Defining the Soft Biometric

Soft biometric traits as characteristics that provide some information about

the individual, but lack the distinctiveness and permanence to sufficiently

differentiate any two individuals. ( AK Jain et al. 2004)

Soft biometric traits are physical, behavioral or adhered human

characteristics, classifiable in pre–defined human compliant categories.

These categories are, unlike in the classical biometric case, established

and time–proven by humans with the aim of differentiating individuals.

(Antitza Dantcheva et al. 2010)
