All tests are measured on “n” LED luminaires of thesame type. The number “n” shall be a minimum ofproducts as given in Table 3. LED luminaires usedin the endurance tests shall not be used in othertests.

Each sample luminaire shall comply with all therelevant tests except for the tests of 10.3 whereone sample is required for each of the threeseparate tests mentioned in Table 2 and Table 3.In order to reduce the time of testing, themanufacturer or responsible vendor may submitadditional luminaires or parts of luminaires providedthat these are of the same materials and design asthe original luminaire and that the results of the testare the same as if carried out on an identicalluminaire.

6.2 Luminaires using LED modules where compliance with IEC 62717 has been proven(Type A)

Only the tests for measurement of initialperformance are to be conducted, when the LEDmodule is operated within its temperature limit tp.

The information for luminaire design given in IEC62717, Clause B.1, requires LED modules to beoperated within their tp temperature limit. The tptemperature shall be measured according to thethermal test procedure defined in 12.4 of IEC60598-1, (normal operation).

For luminaires for road and street lighting andfloodlights intended for outdoor use only, thereduction of the measured temperature accordingto 3.12.1 of IEC 60598-2-3, and 5.12.1 of IEC60598-2-5, respectively shall not be applied forthe tp temperature of the LED module.

The ambient performance temperature tq ismeasured in a draught-proof enclosure, as the airtemperature, at a position near one of theperforated walls on a level with the centre of theluminaire, see item e), Clause K.1 of IEC 60598-1.

10 LED LUMINAIRE LIFE P10.1 General P

The provisions of 10.1 of IEC 62717 apply to theLED luminaire.

10.2 Lumen maintenance PLED luminaires using modules shown to be inconformity with IEC 62717 (see 6.2) do not have tobe submitted for the test. Maintenance valuesdeclared for the module at the considered rating tpmay be declared as the maintenance values of theluminaire for the related rated tq.

Other luminaires are submitted for the test. Theprovisions of 10.2 of IEC 62717 apply to the LEDluminaire except that the maintenance test shall beconducted at the ambient temperature in thetemperature interval (rated tq, rated tq - 2). Theprovisions of 10.2 of IEC 62717 apply to the LEDluminaire, except that the maximum ratedtemperature tp of the LED module is not exceededin the luminaire during testing as long as theinterval (rated tp − 5, rated tp) is maintained.

Compliance criteria PThe measured luminous flux value shall not be lessthan the luminous flux value given by the ratedlumen maintenance factor related to rated medianuseful life.

11 VERIFICATION PThe minimum sampling size for type testing shallbe as given in Table 3. The sample shall berepresentative of a manufacturer’s production. Ifthe LED luminaire does not change the propertiesof single LEDs, LED packages or LED modules, itshould be allowed to reference to test data of theLED manufactures.

ANNEX A METHOD OF MEASURING LED LUMINAIRE CHARACTERISTICS PA.1 General P

The provisions of Clause A.1 of IEC 62717 apply tothe LED luminaire, except that the wording in thethird paragraph, first sentence “in the temperatureinterval (tp rated − 5, tp rated)” does not apply to theLED luminaire.

Where a rated ambient performance temperature tqother than 25°C is advised by the manufacturer, acorrection factor will need to be established tocorrect the measured luminous flux value at 25°Cto the luminous flux value at the declared ambienttemperature. This shall be done using relativephotometry in a temperature controlled cabinet.

In addition for LED luminaires the international andregional requirements shall be followed formeasurement methods and provision of data butformat may be optional.

Life time of LED luminaire can be far more thanwhat practically can be verified with testing.Furthermore, the decrease in light output differs permanufacturer making general prediction methodsdifficult. This standard has opted for lumenmaintenance categories that cover the initialdecrease in luminous flux until an operational timeas stated in 6.1. Due to this limited test time, theclaimed life of a LED luminaire cannot beconfirmed nor rejected in most cases.

B.2 Life time specification PIt is recommended for LED luminaires to specifythe lumen maintenance apart from the abruptfailures in a standardised way giving more insightin light output behaviour. One can distinguish 2types of failures.
