Mapping ExcersizeThe map shows St. Augustine in ve stagesof its history, each stage representing a new era for the constantly-changing, yet history-councious city. Each era brought with it newtechnologies, and also new methods of transportation. transportation.

Each stage is an individual map of an era thatbrought change. The change in modes of transport grew from purely walking, to heavy automobile traffic over time. To adapt, the cityaccomodated new technologies by enhancing the scale of its main roads, which changed inlocation over time, as the city preserved its location over time, as the city preserved its history from the era preceding it. This caused St. Augustine to aquire a myriad of “main entrances”, each from different periods in history.

The site (Talamato Street) has remained unchanged since the cities founding. Its narrowness forces people to walk, rather thannarrowness forces people to walk, rather thandrive. Its scale is unique, and so as each entry to a main road grows larger in scale, it lines up with the scale of talamato in the next time period, which is part of a later map, overlayingit.
