All South Australian Department for Education students in years 3 to 10 are required to undertake PAT Reading (PAT-R) and Maths (PAT-M) annually, with optional testing for years 1 and 2. Our students have participated in these tests during the past few weeks. Results will then be analysed by teachers to determine student growth, as well as areas for teaching and learning improvement. NAPLAN Schools will soon receive student NAPLAN results to send home to families of Year 3, 5 and 7 students. When you receive your child’s results, please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions. Our school has been selected to participate in an “Item Trial” to evaluate test items (questions) that are under consideration for inclusion in future NAPLAN tests. Some of our students in Year 3, 5 and 7 will take part in the trial on Monday 13 th , Tuesday 14 th and Wednesday 15 th September. To help us prepare, it is important that we know which students will not be continuing with us next year. If your child will not be at Tanunda Primary School & Disability Unit in 2022, please send us an email or note advising us, if you haven’t already done so. This will assist us in determining our class configurations and helps us determine our staffing needs for the following year. Allocating children to classes is a complex and detailed process involving collecting feedback from staff, parents/carers and students. The size of our classes is determined by the DfE guidelines: 26 students in R-2 classes and 30 students in 3-7 classes. Our aim is to establish balanced classes and in Principals Report Tests, Tests and more Tests – provide important data to evaluate student progress, aid teacher programming and review school improvement. Teachers are constantly assessing students’ progress in a variety of ways as they are learning but there are also standardized tests that are administered each year such as: PHONICS SCREENING CHECK Phonics is the relationship between letters and sounds and is vital in learning to read. The phonics screening check (PSC) is an assessment that helps indicate how students are progressing with phonics. It takes 5 to 7 minutes per student and is compulsory for all students in year 1. The results are used for planning further learning and providing information on what additional support might be required for students. Our Year 1 students completed the PSC during this term. Our school hat policy states that: “The

wearing of a broad-brimmed hats is

compulsory between the 1st of Septem-

ber and the 1st May”.

Last chance to order your sausage sizzle for Colour Run Day.

Money and order to class teacher.

COLOUR RUN

The Colour Run will be held on Friday 17th September. Students will need to wear either

a white or black top (not a requirement) or and older non-school top for the walk as

they will be ‘splashed with colour’ during the event. Students are encouraged to bring

a water bottle and can carry it with them while on the course.

Students who have a medical condition which prevents them from walking will need a note from home.

These students will be assigned to a checkpoint station.

Times to walk...

Commencement times for the event will be staggered to ensure the whole school completes the walk at

approximately the same time. Classes will meet at the start / finish (entrance to the car park)

The event will finish at approx. 2:45pm. Parents who have volunteered to help on the day will be provided

with a volunteer schedule on Monday 13th September.

DONATIONS WANTED

The Parents at Tanunda Committee are running a Silent Auction alongside of our Art Exhibition in Week 3

of Term 4. As well as collecting donations from local businesses, each class in the school are collecting

items to make up hampers to auction off. The purpose of the Art Exhibition is to raise money to support the

redevelopment of the Disability Unit playground.
