Hi All,

Oh boy this weather has been

washing out more than a few car

lucky.

The club would like to wish all

those on the sick list a speedy

recovery and hope to see you at

AAAC at the All British day

We had a great day out in Echunga with weather that was kind on the British cars (not too hot). Dick Johnson did a sterling job of marshalling the 14 AAAC member cars to our spot on the Echunga oval, and Basil Rowe volunteered to marshal for the event helping us all get into the oval in an orderly fash-ion.

The club had a wide array of vehicles on display:- Standard, Austin, Ford, Morris, Triumph, MGB, Vaux-hall & a Bedford truck. Didn't see any Rovers this year though. Its a great day out for British car enthu-siasts, with so many cars of the different marques on show that I thoroughly recommend coming up to see for yourself.

I find that seeing cars working gets me enthused to fix up my own Brit car collection. For instance I talked to a guy in the Rover Club about ROVER P5 fuel reserve tanks and troublesome SU fuel pumps to help with my P5 laid up project in my backyard. Maybe next year! This was the second year that I took my Dolomite Sprint up to Echunga, I just made it last year as the car was struggling to run, but this year performed much better after much work on the radiator, the ignition and the carbies!

Corvettes at the Bay

The sun was doing its best to shine as the Corvettes

muscled their way onto Wigley reserve for another

pow wow. Sixty odd Corvettes of all vintages, from a

1953 C1 to the current C7. Hold onto to your wig

with 460 hp on tap; who needs a licence, just out

run the cops! I'm sure there is a garage space at

Yatala.

A Beautifully restored 1953 C1 Corvette grabbed a

lot of attention (top pic). Harley Earl, the designer

for General Motors at the time, convinced GM they

needed to build a sports car for the American public,

as the GI’s were returning home after WW2, bring-

ing home MGs, Jaguars and Alfa Romeos with them.

A projects crew was assembled and the EX–122 pro-

totype Corvette was shown to the public in 1953.

Production started six months later.

The engine chosen was a 235 cu in inline six, with

higher compression ratio, high lift cam, mechanical

lifters and triple carter carbies with a HP rating of

150. No body rust issues as they are made out surf

board material!

Another sought after Corvette on display was a black

1963 stingray split window coupe (pic 3). The term

split window was derived from the fact that the

1963 model had major restyling and the rear win-

dow is two piece glass (spilt) and only produced for

one year (1963), which makes them quite unique.

With production numbers 21,513 approx @ 50%,

coupes/roadsters are increasing in value. There

were also an abundance off C3 Corvettes built be-

tween 1968 to 1982 on display.

The early steel bumper bar cars are the pick of the

bunch. The 1973 the Corvette received a plastic

front facia as steel bumpers were becoming outdat-

ed. the 1974 model received front and rear plastic

facia, The later plastic cars are not a popular choice

with the collector but are enjoyed by the enthusiast.

If you want a cheap 80s muscle car, Corvettes are

good value as they can be bought for under 25k.

USA Websites have them priced at around 5/9k for

good drivers, as they were hugely popular with

350,000 odd built between 1984/1996 and like all

good things American the next model is always big-

ger and better, pushing the price downwards on all

Corvettes plastic.

Man Cave Balinese style

During our last holiday in Bali, we came across this gem in a old warehouse named the Man

Shed, with some old classic Plymouth's, Holden's and Chev's and also a great collection of bikes.

Who would have thought you would find EJ & EK's Holden's in great condition over there; obvi-

ously when people moved to the island paradise they took their favourite vehicle with them. So,

anyone going over to Bali, this is a great place to visit!

All Japan day

With the newly proposed changes to the conditional registration scheme due to start (?), here is one motoring category for

which will benefit. There were a lot of late model cars on display as the Japanese manufactures make cars bullet proof and are

choice drift cars. I had to search for the collectable, with most owners from a younger generation, and a good percentage had

some sort of modification. Even the very early models, which are scarce in numbers—unloved when they grew to old in their

hey day, throw in some cancer and their numbers soon diminished. There are some cheap pickings in amongst the Japanese

models, perhaps future collectables, if you would like a low entry classic. I was a bit surprised at some of the low prices for

low production numbered cars, and with a steady supply of grey imports keeping the prices at bay on some models, the Nissan

R 33 with production numbers for the standard version at 40,000 odd it’s not hard to see why they are relatively cheap; they

are well built and still very popular. Then you have the rare early Mazda RX models and the prices go from one extreme to

another, as the early Mazda R100 pictured top right, range in price from 55k – 85k if you can find one. On offer was an early

Isuzu Bellet a complete car solid body but needed TLC the owner was asking 3,800 K having no bites he was prepared to let it

go for 2,500K. Good buying; not many survivors around. Gary Morden

A Scotsman living in Adelaide phones his Aussie dentist to enquire about the cost for a tooth

extraction. $220.- for an extraction, mate!" $220.-?”, the man replies. “Huv ye no'got anythin' cheaper?" "That's the normal charge, mate" replies the dentist. "Whit aboot if ye didnae use any anaesthetic?" "That's unusual, mate, but I could do it and knock $20.- off." "Whit aboot if ye used one of your dentist trainees and still withoot an anaesthetic?" "I can't guarantee their professionalism and it'll be painful. But the price could drop to $180.-" "How aboot if ye make it a trainin' session, 'ave yer student do the extraction with the other stu-

dents watchin' and learnin'?" "It'll be good for the students" mulled the dentist. "I'll charge you fifty bucks. But it will be trau-

matic, mate." "Och, now yer talkin' laddie! It's a deal," said the Scotsman. "Can ye confirm an appointment

for the wife next Tuesday then?

Barry and his wife are dining at a table in a fancy restaurant, and the husband keeps staring at

a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sits alone at a nearby table. The wife asks, "Do you

know her?" "Yes," sighs the husband, "She's my ex-girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after

we split up seven years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since." "My God!" says the wife, "Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?"

Teacher: "If I gave you 2 cats and another 2 cats and another 2, how many would you have?" Johnny: "Seven." Teacher: "No, listen carefully... If I gave you two cats, and another two cats and another two,

how many would you have?" Johnny: "Seven." Teacher: "Let me put it to you differently. If I gave you two apples, and another two apples and

another two, how many would you have?" Johnny: "Six." Teacher: "Good. Now if I gave you two cats, and another two cats and another two, how many

would you have?" Johnny: "Seven!" Teacher: "Johnny, where in the hell do you get seven from?!" Johnny: "Because I've already have a dam cat!" -
