Together in Community GivingThanks to generosity of Landfall residents for nearly twenty years, the Landfall Foundation has assisted local charities to achieve extraordinary things. Listed below are few of the charities that have recently benefited from Foundation grants.
• ArlieGardens:Asculptureexhibitincludinga“meettheartist” session.
• CucalorusFilmFoundationOutreachprogramtosupportfourorganizedfilmandartsprogramsforchildren.
• Wilmington Health Access for Teens Inc: An afterschool obesity prevention program for overweight/atriskteensatAshleyHighSchool.Theprogramincludesnutritionlessonsandgroupphysicalactivities.
• RachelFreemanSchoolofEngineering:Providesschooluniforms for students in need.
• Nourish North Carolina: Backpack program provideshealthy meals to bridge the gap that exists betweenschool and home on weekends.
• KidsMakingIt: Handsonafterschoolworkshopsreachapproximately275children
• St.MaryDentalClinic:Theclinicoffersquarterlydentalhealth fairs for children and teens to promote dentalhealth.
• Brigade Boys and Girls Club: ImageMakers is acomprehensive program which introduces youth to avariety of fun and challenging image making activities.
• Thalian Association: Expand classes and theatricalproductionsattheCommunityBoysandGirlsClub
• Cape Fear Guardian Ad Litem Association: Provideseducational and cultural activities to neglected and abusedchildrentoenrichandinspireyounglives.

What is the Landfall Foundation?TheLandfallFoundationisawonderfulanduniquestoryaboutacommunity of neighbors who live in the city of Wilmington, North Carolina who wish to make a difference in their local community. Wedothisbyidentifyingnon-profitorganizationswithinthegreat-erWilmingtonareawhoseprogramswillbesignificantlybenefittedthroughgrants.By leveraging time,moneyand talentofexistingorganizations, the foundation reaches into the community and as-sists those most in need, those who add to our rich cultural heritage, those who enhance the community through the arts, and those whoseeducationaloutreachprogramsbenefitchildrenandadults.
Thefoundationbeganin1995.Asof2014over3milliondollarshasbeenawardedtovariousWilmingtonareanon-profitorganiza-tions.In2014alone,approximately185,000residentsofourcom-munity were touched by Landfall Foundation grants.
In the BeginningTheLandfallFoundationwastheinspirationofFrankKenan,oneof thedevelopersof theLandfallcommunity.Heencouraged thecommunity to form a charitable foundation to benefit Wilmington charities and contributed the initial $50,000. Later he offered an additional $50,000 of matching contributions. Landfall residents metthechallengeandthefirstgrantsweremadein1997.Residentsquickly learned thatbypooling theircontributionswith thoseoftheirneighbors,theycouldgreatlyimpactthecharitiestheychoseto fund.
How does the foundation raise funds for distribution? Fundraising takesplace throughout theyear.Eventschangeperi-odicallybutcurrentlyinclude:

• ArtShowandSalefeaturinglocalartistsinlatesummer

How are funds awarded? The Grants ProcessApplicationsforgrantsaresubmittedeachspringbaseduponstringentcriteria. The grants committee, composed of volunteers, thoroughlyreviewandresearchapplicationsselectingprojectsthatfulfill largelyunmetneedswithemphasisonprogramsthatmaynotreceivemoneyfromothersources.GrantsareawardedeachNovembertodeservingcharities and given in the areas of education, health and welfare and the arts.The grants committee furthermonitors theprojects to en-sure money granted is used as intended and will make a difference. Thegrantscommitteerequiresgranteestosubmitprojectcompletionreports. This rigorous process gives the community confidence theircharitable dollars are being wisely used to meet real needs in the Wilm-ington area.
Additionally,thefoundationawardshighereducationscholarshipstoLandfallemployeeswhoqualify.TheLandfallFoundationhasawardedapproximately185scholarshipsovertheyears.
Why should I support the Landfall Foundation?Successful careers and investments characterize many residents ofLandfall,andmostsharetheirtimeandtreasuretohelpthoselessfor-tunate.Overtheyears,givingtotheLandfallFoundationhasbecometradition.This spiritof givingenhances the imageofourwonderfulcommunity. The foundation is also a way for newcomers to become involved in and learn about their neighborhood and greater Wilming-ton community.
