Battery Safety

• Is it possible to design a safer battery? – No battery design can be 100% failure free in all circumstances. In the rare

circumstance that a battery does fail, customers should know that Lenovo designs its battery packs to fail in safe ways.

• How does Lenovo design its battery packs? – Lenovo uses only batteries from well known manufacturers who must

conform to Lenovo’s extensive qualification procedures. Further the battery packs which Lenovo uses are carefully designed to reduce the likelihood of battery failures cascading into a significant event like a fire or smoke. Lenovo goes well beyond the industry norms when it designs its battery packs to be as safe as possible. Lenovo also avoids implementations which can stress a battery. Lenovo battery pack utilizes multiple independent circuits that actively monitor battery status.

Stringent Battery Quality Requirements

• Lenovo only works with suppliers who meet our stringent quality levels• Lenovo has been continually active in the industry to promote safer

battery technology. – Lenovo has pushed battery vendors to include improvements like adding

safety wrap around each battery cell that are now industry standard

• Lenovo will only use battery cells from the vendors that we have identified as meeting high standards for safety. No other vendors are used

This helps keep reliability high because Lenovo can design for the specific system specifications to help keep critical system components running cooler, like batteries.
