TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 30, 2020
First Reading: Isaiah 22:19-23 This passage refers to the use of authority and indicates the Key as the symbol of authority. The words “open” and “shut” refer to the power that will eventually be given to Peter.
Second Reading: Romans 11:33-36 Paul writes ecstatic and praise-filled words about God’s plan for his people. In him, he writes, “all things are.”
Gospel: Matthew 16:13-20 When Jesus asks his disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter exclaims, “You are the Messiah!” Christ then declares that Peter is the “Rock” upon which he will build his Church, promising him the power “to bind” and “to loose.”

ROCKLAND 9-11 MEMORIAL MASS THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 10TH - 7 PM We invite everyone to please save the date for this year’s Rockland County 9-11 Memorial Mass. Because this special mass is traditionally hosted by the Vicar/Dean, this year it will be held right here at Saint Aedan’s Church. During the mass, we will pray aloud for all of our Rockland family members and friends who perished during the Attack on America, September 11, 2001. We will also pray for God’s continued love and protection upon all those they left behind on that terrible day. Uniformed responders, both retired and still on the job, are invited to attend in uniform. Others may wish to wear shirts or colors appropriate to one of the uniformed services. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
BIRTHRIGHT OF
ROCKLAND VIRTUAL “BABY BOTTLE” DRIVE
Birthright of Rockland
is a charitable pregnancy resource center. During the 2020 COVID pandemic we are still helping pregnant women by supplying them with groceries, diapers, wipes, clothing, formula and access to helpful resources. With the support of our dedicated volunteers and our loyal donors, like you, we continue to assist women in crisis and save precious lives by offering true alternatives to abortion. Please help Birthright by participating in our Virtual Baby Bottle Drive. Any amount you can afford to send will be greatly appreciated by our moms. They are always amazed when
we tell them they are being helped by people who don’t even know them. Often one kind word from a Brthright volunteer is all it takes to change a mother’s heart to choose Life for her baby. So, there are no “bottles” this year but you may send us a check, made out to Birthright of Rockland and mailed to PO Box 306, Nanuet, NY 10954. Kindly name your parish in the memo line of your check. Thank you and may God bless you for what you help us to do for His little ones! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
he St Aedan's Food Pantry wishes to thank all who so generously contribute to our ongoing effort to combat the forces of this COVID Pandemic and its financial, physical, spiritual and psychological effects over these 5+ months. We always need your contributions of non-perishable foods, especially juices, juices boxes, boxed milk, cooking oil, coffee, toothpaste. dish detergent and PAPER products. And all the stuff your families eat! Supermarket Gift Cards, Cash, Checks can be dropped in the Collection Boxes in the church vestibule or in the Rectory Mail Slot. Now that we have implemented specially marked SVDP envelopes, available in Church, you can easily earmark your contribution. All checks are acknowledged as are cash contributions when you write you name and address on the envelope. Our Start-of-School will be unique in 2020, so our School Drive needs the following: Substantial backpacks, lunch boxes, juice boxes, snacks (pretzels, cookies, goldfish, lunchables, etc.) We have to supply students who will be learning at home, in the classroom,
or in the new ‘hybrid’ mode. Students still need to eat. Please respond. Finally, the pantry has purchased tablets for some families to help in the daily learning. It’s fun to watch, the student teaches the parent how they work. In the name of our Patron St. Vincent dePaul and our Blessed Mother, HAPPY NEW SCHOOL YEAR! I am glad to see so many of you from the front lawn of 3 Reld. Remember to beep twice. Deacon Jim. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
