ABS TR ACTThe universities in Gaza strip are considered a base of progress. This study, hence, will concentrate on the three biggest universities in Gaza strip, Al-Azhar, Al-Aqsa and the Islamic university since 90% of university students in the strip are found in these three universities. Caring about university students means caring about the future since they play a great role in improving and developing their society to become developed. But how do these students look forward to their future? Are they able to form it as they like? Or do other conditions like social, economic, and political conditions in addition to the prevailing culture share them in forming it? The researcher uses the descriptive method using the questionnaire as a basic researcher tool for collecting data. He dispenses the questionnaire to a random sample of university students (Al-Azhar, Al-Aqsa, and Islamic universities). The study in general tries to answer the following question: The study concludes too many results the most important of which are: How do Palestinian university students see the future? 1. The university students' view for their future is worrying and unstable. 2. Their view to their vocational future is clear to some extent, that is, most of them chose to be teachers or engineers. This means completing their education and building their homeland. 3 - For their academic future, the students are satisfied with the scientific department they chose because they believe this department will achieve their future goals. 4. About their social future, the students have the following views: - there is no difference between males and females in the Palestinian society, - the average age for marriage that both genders prefer is between 20 and 30, - Male guys prefer a working wife, - Most of the students' houses are theirs, - The student's most important problems are unemployment and delaying marriage to a late age, - The cause of unemployment is the occupation, - Most of the students show to be clanged to their home-land and they don't want to immigrate, and
15
- Religious activities are the most important activities for the students, and they are convinced with these activities. 5. For their view about the future of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the students all agree that this conflict is a conflict for surviving not for having political boarders, - There is no peace with Israel, - Most of the students don't agree to the solution of two countries, - They don't agree to a truce, - They see that arresting made by the Israeli soldiers strengthen them, - They think that the occupation uses excessive force against them, - The students all believe that the spies who work with Israel should be killed. This is an evidence that the Palestinian society tends to violence to some extent and that the struggle against Israel is a holy religious struggle. 6. About the future of the relationship between the Palestinians in Gaza and the Arab countries, the students think that their future is with Egypt and Syria respectively because they like them most. 7. About the future with foreign countries, the students believe their future is with France and Russia respectively which they like most. 8. The students in the three universities involved in the research believe that: The conflict between Palestine and Israel is a conflict for surviving. - There is no permanent peace with Israel, and - The suggestion of two countries-solution doesn't appeal to the Palestinians.. 9. There are big differences between the views of freshmen and seniors in the effect of their teachers' political affiliations on them. The seniors are more affected with it than the freshmen because they have spent a longer period in the university. This, of course, doesn't mean that the freshmen are not affected at all.. 10. The previous finding shows that a big portion of the Palestinian youth think that the conflict with Israel is a conflict for surviving. This is proven everyday by the continuous confiscation of lands by the Israelis from the researcher's point of view.. From the findings of the research the researcher recommends to: 1. Help the students overcome their wariness and anxiety towards their future as a result of the difficult conditions they pass through. This can be achieved by:16
a. Holding a warning lectures by the mental and educational institutions, b. Encouraging practical studies like industrial, agricultural, and commercial studies in Gaza strip.. 2. Care for the problems the students face and try to solve them in the correct social and mental ways. 3. Construct public gardens and parks in the main cities for the aim of entertainment. Being asked about the way they spend their holidays in, the students answered that they sit at home which increase their tension. 4. Improve the professional performance in the Palestinian universities in general and in the universities involved in the research in particular. 5. Put the strategies to work out the problems resulting after the Israeli with drawl from Gaza especially the security chaos.. 6. Insert a course about "Future Studies" within the university curricula to create a vision for future. 7. Insert the course of "Political Psychology" within the university curricula.. 8. Decrease the tuition fees in the universities since one of the most important difficulties facing university students is the rise of university fees. 9. Care more for university students and their future by giving them the chance to work in order to stick them more to their homeland. In fact a negative indicator appears in the research points that 32% of the students think of immigration as a result of the tension and desperation they feel.
