SAMAR ABOULSOUD Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners
Dr. Samar Aboulsoud currently serves as the Acting/ Chief Executive Officer of the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners. She is also the Director of Accreditation and
Health Profession Education Department. In this position, she works in collaboration with national and international
partners in a number of national level projects towards establishing standards for medical education, accreditation as well as licensing of healthcare practitioners. She represents
Qatar in a number Of GCC Committees and is the Chair of Qatar CPD Accreditation Committee. She is an Associate
Professor of Internal Medicine. She brings considerable training and experience in medical education, with specific expertise in accreditation, curriculum development,
assessments and faculty development programs. She completed her MSc and Doctorate degrees in internal medicine at Cairo University where she specialized in diabetic
vasculopathy. She also completed her MSc in medical education at Cardiff University. Some of the projects she completed are; establishment of a national CME/CPD accreditation system for the state of Qatar, ACGME-I accreditation project for Hamad
Medical Corporation, a pilot of Introducing OSCE as a licensing exam for pharmacists in Qatar and Introducing the regulations of complementary medicine.
She is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy of the UK, a member of the Academy of Medical Educators in the UK and the International Academy for CPD Accreditation. Her research interests are medical education and clinical guidelines.

interests are communication skills and medical ethics along with other innovations in medical education. Has conducted
workshops on Communication Skills: Breaking Bad News and on implementation of module for teaching medical ethics to UG medical education in SEARAME and other conferences.
He is a resource faculty for various Faculty Development Programs. Was on the Commission for drafting the Health Professions Education Bill for
Government of Nepal. Pursuing actively for health equity and quality improvement in Health professions education for better health care services.

MARGARET AIMER Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists
Dr Margaret Aimer graduated from the University of Auckland Medical School with a Bachelor of Medicine
and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) in 1983, and was elected a Fellow of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists in 1994. Dr Aimer has
held a range of clinical positions with health services in New Zealand, with the majority of her clinical work
focused on older people and adults in both hospital and community settings. From 2004 until 2011 she was Clinical Director of Mental Health Services at Counties
Manukau District Health Board. In 2011 she moved to a new position at Ko Awatea– Centre for Health System
Innovation and Improvement for the Counties Manukau District Health Board in Auckland. As the Lead for the Development and Delivery Team at Ko Awatea she is
responsible for leading programmes of work supporting system wide change both locally and nationally. She holds an additional part time role as Senior Clinical Director
or Recovery Solutions, a large NGO provider.
Dr Aimer has been a member of the Faculty of Old Age Psychiatry since 1994 and was Director of Training Old Age Psychiatry from 1998-2001. In 2012 she was Deputy Chair,
partnerships and external relations portfolio of the Board of Practice, Policy and Partnerships. Dr Aimer was elected to the College’s inaugural Board in 2013 for a three-year term and currently chairs the Education Committee.
ESAM ABDULLAH ALBANYAN King Saud University For Health Sciences, Ministry of National Guard-Health Affairs
Dr. Esam Albanyan is a Consultant Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC) and Director of the
CanMEDS Collaborating Center at the King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS), Ministry of National
Guard-Health Affairs, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Albanyan obtained his MBBS from King Saud University, Riyadh in 1990. He completed his pediatric residency at Tufts University, Boston
followed by a clinical fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases from Baylor in Houston Texas. Shortly after joining KAMC, Dr.
Albanyan was appointed Director of the newly established Pediatric Infectious Disease Fellowship program where he was
involved in developing the fellowship curriculum and assessment . He subsequently
served as Director of Medical Education at the KSAU-HS, overseeing 23 residency programs and 30 fellowship programs. He became the Director of the CanMEDS
Collaborating Center at the University where he was responsible for the implementation of the CanMEDS framework in KSAU-HS residency programs. He serves on several University and Saudi Commission for Health Specialties scientific committees
overseeing the transition of Saudi Residency Programs to competency based education and the integration of CanMEDS competencies into undergraduate curricula.

TAVIS APRAMIAN Canadian Federation of Medical Students
Tavis is a medical student in the MD/PhD program at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University. Tavis’s medical education research focuses on workplace-based learning
and assessment in surgery and his student government work with the CFMS focuses on early clinical exposure, social
accountability, and interprofessional education.
Tavis is the former Director of Education for the Ontario Medical
Students’ Association (2015-2016) and has served as a Working Group Chair on the Education Committee of the Canadian
Federation of Medical Students (CFMS) from 2013-2016. Tavis completed an MA
(English) at Carleton University, an MSc (Narrative Medicine) at Columbia University, and a PhD (Health Professional Education) at Western University.

DAVID BLACK Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board
Professor Black graduated from the University of
Cambridge and has been a consultant physician in Geriatric Medicine since 1987. From 2004 -2014 he
was Dean Director of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education for Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery and was national Lead Dean for Medical Oncology, Clinical
Oncology, Allergy, Stroke and Geriatric Medicine. He was awarded an honorary professorship in the Brighton
and Sussex Medical School in 2005. As a Medical Manager and educationalist, he has been
interested in induction, mentoring, and the day-to-day application of Clinical Governance. In 2002 he was elected as a Director of the
British Association of Medical Managers (BAMM) and elected Chair of the Board 2007-9. An associate member to the ‘Fitness to Practice' directorate of the General Medical Council from 2001-2005 and in 2010-13 he was appointed
assessor to Robert Francis QC for the Mid-Staffordshire Inquiry.
From 2011-2014, he was the elected Senior Censor and Vice-President for education and training for the Royal College of Physicians, previously an elected Councilor and Trustee and a MRCP examiner since 1999. In 2011-14, he
chaired and ran the national pilot for trainee revalidation, then led the subsequent implementation of the full programme.
Professor Black was appointed JRCPTB Medical Director in 2014 to oversee its role in
the management of UK core, general and medical specialty training and recruitment. He provides clinical leadership on national educational policy and healthcare reform including quality, curricula, assessment, and standard setting for physicians.
SUSAN BRIEN Royal College International
Susan Brien, MD, MEd, CSPQ, FRCSC, CPE, assumed her current role of Director, Practice and Systems Innovation,
at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in October 2013. Her role as VP, Asia-Pacific within Royal College International (RCI) initiative, allows her to expand
her passion for simulation education to other countries. A neurosurgeon with a Master’s of Education from the
University of Toronto, Dr. Brien is the Chief of Neurosurgery at CSSS (de) Gatineau and is an Adjunct Professor of
Surgery at the University of Ottawa.

CRAIG CAMPBELL Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
Dr. Campbell is a specialist in Internal Medicine, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Ottawa and Director of Continuing Professional Development in the Office of Specialty
Education at the Royal College. Dr. Campbell leads the national Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program, serves as Registrar
for the Royal College and has oversight for the ePortfolio development project within the Competence by Design strategic initiative, the development of a strategy to implement a
competency-based CPD model for physician in practice, and the International Academy of CPD Accreditation. Dr. Campbell’s
research interests in continuing professional development (CPD) are focused on the role of ePortfolios in supporting lifelong learning, strategies to promote ‘informed’ self-assessment and
workplace based assessments of competence and performance of individuals, groups or health care teams.
OSCAR CASIRÓ Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
Dr. Oscar Casiro is a professor in the Department of
Pediatrics and a Scholar in the Centre for Health Education Scholarship at the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) Faculty of Medicine. After obtaining a
medical degree from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, he completed training in Pediatrics and
Neonatology at the University of Manitoba. His early research interests centered on the long-term outcomes of high risk, premature infants and the effects of substance
abuse during pregnancy. Dr. Casiro developed an interest in medical education leadership and scholarly activities
early in his academic career. He has held leadership positions of progressive responsibility in the field of medical education, including Residency Program Director, Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine; Chair of the Royal College of
Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Specialty Committee on Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine; Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education (University of Manitoba);
Chair of the Undergraduate Medical Education Committee, Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada; President of the Medical Council of Canada; and Founding Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver Island (UBC and University of Victoria). At present, he is
Chair of the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS), voting member of the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) in the U.S and Regional
Director for Latin America, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada International, promoting academic partnerships in order to enhance postgraduate medical education in the region.

ALAN CHAPUT University of Ottawa
Dr. Chaput completed undergraduate and graduate training in
pharmacy before entering medical school at the University of Toronto, where he graduated with his MD in 1996. He completed an anesthesia residency program at the University
of Toronto in 2006 and during his residency he completed a Master's degree in Health Research Methodology.
Since 2006, Dr. Chaput has worked as an anesthesiologist at The Ottawa Hospital. He has held various administrative
positions within the Department of Anesthesia and in December of 2014, he assumed the role of Vice-Chair of Education.
Dr. Chaput has been heavily involved in education at both the undergraduate and postgraduate medical levels at the University of Ottawa for a number of years. He has
been the content expert for pharmacology and therapeutics in the MD program, and he was a member of the inaugural cohort of Distinguished Teachers in the Faculty of
Medicine. Beginning in 2012, he became part of an executive working group that designed the curriculum for the competency based anesthesia residency training and in his role as Vice Chair of Education, he has played a significant role in the development
and implementation of the program that accepted its first resident on July 1, 2015. Dr. Chaput has been the recipient of numerous teaching awards from medical students and
residents. Since 2012, Dr. Chaput has held the role of Assistant Dean of Postgraduate Medical
Education at the University of Ottawa.
ZAFAR ULLAH CHAUDHRY College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan
Prof. Zafar Ullah Chaudhry s/o Mr. Innayat Ullah Chaudhry was born in well-educated agriculturist family in Faisalabad on 1-10-
1937. He graduated (MBBS) from Nishter Medical College, Multan in 1960 and went to UK for higher studies. He qualified Diploma in Anesthesia London-1962, DRCOG in OBGY from London-1963
and FRCS (Edin, Eng)-1967. He was awarded Fellowship of College of Physicians and
Surgeons Pakistan in 1990. He has been involved with activities of the College like examiner, trainer, Councilor Vice President and finally in 2007 he was elected as the President of CPSP and
successfully re-elected for three consecutive terms. Under his stewardship CPSP has attained recognition internationally,
particularly, WHO recognized “Training Cum Service” project initiated as a joint venture by HSE, Ministry of Health, Republic of Ireland and College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, which now is running successfully since 2012. It has been labeled as “Brain
Gain than Brain Drain scheme”. He was honored with the title “Manager of the year 2013” and under his leadership the
College was awarded “Socrates Award for the Best College” and “The Golden Europe Award for Quality and Commercial Prestige” in 2014.

His vision for the College is to provide system for specialists in all existing and
emerging fields of medical and dental sciences in the country. Through provision of CME/CPD opportunities the fellows are welcomed as specialists in any part of the world.
His mission is to govern collective decision-making with a system for seeking maximum input and participation of fellows in College affairs.
NENITA A. COLLANTES Philippine College of Physicians
Currently the President of the Philippine College of Physicians. I
am very much involved in the residency training program in internal medicine and the accreditation process of the training institutions.
I am an Associate Professor at the College of Medicine at Manila Central University. We recently just shifted to OBE and
Competency Based Curriculum.
ADRIAN COSENZA Australian Orthopaedic Association
Adrian is the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) joining AOA in July 2010. Over the past six years Adrian has lead the modernisation of AOA
into a vibrant and respected leader in the field of orthopaedics. AOA has adopted contemporary strategy development, project,
risk management, technology, communication and profiling practices. The AOA is into its third year of a major globally benchmarked transformation of its orthopaedic surgical and
education program to progress its vision to be world recognised in this area. Adrian’s passion is creating the environment for
people to perform to the best of their abilities and assist organisations achieve great outcomes. AOA is also addressing leading aspirations in research, ethics & professionalism and its role in the Asia Pacific region.
Adrian is an experienced CEO and seasoned director and executive leader having served in executive capacity in three industries including medical education, technology
and banking and finance. He is also currently Chief Executive Officer of AOA Research Foundation, and Chair of Australasian Sarcoma Study Group (ASSG) Board of Directors. Adrian has served on the Board of 12 companies covering four industries in
four different international jurisdictions. Adrian has three degrees including a Masters of Business Administration from the global leading IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland as well
as a Masters of Commerce. Adrian is also Fellow of three professional bodies covering governance, financial services and accounting. Adrian’s passion is working with and leading teams to achieve better outcomes for all stakeholders.

SALLY DAVIES University Hospital of Wales
Sally qualified in Medicine at Cambridge University and the London Hospital. She undertook training posts in London, Oxford and Cardiff before working in primary care in the Middle East. On
return to the UK, she began training in Clinical Genetics in Wales. She continues to work as a consultant in the All Wales Medical
Genetics Service. Her special interests are dysmorphology and
paediatric cardiac genetics.
Sally has always been involved in medical education within her specialty and the NHS. Following a Masters in Medical Education
she became SubDean in the School of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education in Cardiff University (Wales Deanery) 2003 -2013. In this role she established the Performance Support Unit providing support for doctors in training. She
continues as Royal College of Physicians (London) Regional Specialty Advisor, member of the Federation of Royal Colleges of Physicians CPD Policy Committee and RCP
Equality and Inclusion Task and Finish Group. She continues to have a role in both undergraduate and postgraduate training in medicine for Cardiff University. Her interests are performance issues, assessment and appraisal.
Sally has served as President of the Medical Women’s Federation 2014- 2016 and
continues to support the rights of women in specialty training in the UK.
SUSAN DAY ACGME International
Dr. Day joined ACGME-I as its Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs in October 2014. Prior to working at the ACGME, Dr. Day
served at California Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco as the Chair and Program Director for the Department of
Ophthalmology, and later as its Designated Institutional Official (DIO).
In her current position, she and the ACGME-I team assist with assessment of readiness for accreditation, instruction on creation of an educational learning environment, faculty development, and
emphasis on patient safety and outcomes measurement.
Dr. Day has previously served the ACGME in a variety of capacities. She served as a member and Chair of the ACGME Board of Directors and as both a member and Chair of the Residency Review Committee, Ophthalmology.
Additionally, Dr. Day was co-chair of the ACGME Duty Hours Task Force from 2009/2010.

ROXANNE DEEVEY Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
Roxanne Deevey joined the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as the Director of Communications and Marketing in November 2015. She has worked as a broadcast
journalist for TFO-TV Ontario and Radio-Canada and is the author of Montfort et Le Droit: même combat?, a reflection on the French-
speaking journalist’s advocacy role in minority settings. Roxanne left journalism in 2003 to work in communications and public relations in the hospital and education sectors. From 2005 to
2015, she held the position of Director of Communications and Community Relations at the Conseil des écoles catholiques du
Centre-Est (CECCE) in Ottawa. Ms. Deevey is an accredited business communicator (ABC) with the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and has twice received a Gold
Quill Award from that organization. She holds a Masters in Journalism from Carleton University, a Graduate Diploma in Communications from Concordia University and a
Bachelor in International Development from Dalhousie University.
RICHARD DOHERTY Royal Australasian College of Physicians
Richard Doherty was appointed Dean of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in March 2011. He trained initially in
Paediatrics in Queensland, and then undertook Fellowship training in Paediatric Infectious Diseases at the Children’s Hospital, Boston as a Harkness Fellow of the Commonwealth Fund, New York.
Following appointments as a consultant paediatrician at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne and Deputy Director of the
Macfarlane Burnet Centre for Medical Research (now the Burnet Institute) he was appointed Professor and Head of the Department of Paediatrics at Monash University in 1994.
His research interests have included basic and clinical virology, particularly of HIV,
HTLV-I and Herpes Simplex virus as well as studies of immunological responses to viruses in vitro and in vaccine studies. He was a Section Editor (Infectious Diseases) for the journal Paediatric Research between 2010 and 2016.
His university roles have included leadership in medical curriculum development and a
period as Associate Dean for Teaching Hospitals. He has also served as Medical Director of the Children’s Program and as Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Monash Children’s (Southern Health, Victoria). Until November 2015 he also chaired the
Board of Examiners of the Australian Medical Council and remains an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at Monash University.

Recent roles have included membership of the National Medical Training Advisory Network Executive, the Expert Advisory Group on Revalidation (for the Medical Board of
Australia) and the Expert Panel for the National Intern Training Review.
DANIELLE FRÉCHETTE Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
Mrs. Danielle Fréchette is the Executive Director of the Office of
Health Systems Innovation and External Relations at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Mrs. Fréchette graduated from the University of Ottawa in both Arts and
Communications and gained a Masters in Public Administration from Queen’s University.
She has over 25 years’ experience in social policy and since the
early 1990s has supported the development of the Royal Colleges’ health policy and governance functions. Her governance-related interests centre on innovations that optimise
decision-making and accountability. Her health policy-related research interests focus on numerous aspects of human

PAUL GAMBLE The Gamble Consultancy, Inc.
Dr. Gamble is currently serving as a Consultant for the Royal
College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). Until March 31, 2015 he was Director of International Outreach for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as well
as Director of Royal College International.
Before to joining the Royal College, he was President and CEO
of the Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences from 2003 until late 2012. The Michener is the leader in Canadian
education of Cardiovascular Perfusion, Chiropody, Diagnostic Cytology, Genetics Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences,
Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiation Therapy, Radiological Technology, Respiratory
Therapy and Ultrasound.
Prior to his appointment at the Michener Institute, Dr. Gamble was Associate
Professor and Director of the School of Health Management at Ryerson University for 10 years where he oversaw the initiation and development of the School as well as
the introduction of the Bachelor of Health Administration (BHA) program.
From 1989 to 1993 he was with the Hospital Council of Metropolitan Toronto ending
his term as President and CEO. Dr. Gamble earned a Doctor of Public Health in health policy from the University of
Michigan and holds a Master of Health Science degree in Health Administration from

the University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from McMaster University.

Professor Khalid Masood Gondal, graduate of KEMC is currently working as Professor & Chairman, Department of Surgery, King

which supervised and implemented the new structured residency program / competency based medical education. The College has introduced the e-log system and electronic monitoring which is
compulsory for all the residents from July 2011. CPSP is also holding ATLS® and ACLS® courses since 2008, and Professor Gondal is among the senior faculty members.
He has represented CPSP on various international forums / Royal Colleges including Canada, UK and Ireland. He was invited speaker on competency based medical
education and e-log system in IMELF 2011 Canada, Annual Scientific Conference of Royal Australasian College of Surgeons held in Malaysia and joint scientific conference of Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh and Royal College of Surgeons Thailand in

IAN GRAHAM Australian and New Zealand College of Anesthetists
Dr Ian Graham is a medical manager, educator and consultant
in health management. He has worked in senior medical administration and hospital executive positions in the Victorian public hospital system for the past 30 years, including roles in
major teaching hospitals, regional and rural health services and the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria.
Dr Graham consults in clinical engagement, health management, medical education and clinical information
technology in Australia and internationally.
Throughout his medical career, Dr Graham has been a passionate advocate for the development of clinical and education information technology in healthcare. In July, 2013 he was appointed to the Board of Directors of
the MedBiquitous Consortium, a not-for-profit, international group of professional associations, universities, commercial, and governmental organisations, based at Johns
Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore and seeking to develop and promote technology standards for the health professions that advance lifelong learning, continuous improvement and better patient outcomes (www.medbiq.org).

Dr. Harris is the Executive Director, Office of Specialty Education and Deputy CEO at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons
of Canada.
Dr. Harris is a Professor Emeritus at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario (UWO) having spent 25 years in active teaching practice of Vascular
Surgery. He currently holds an appointment in the Department of Surgery at the University of Ottawa and UWO.
In his current roles and responsibilities at the Royal College, he oversees educational initiatives in the domain of specialty
medicine across the lifelong learning continuum. This includes the setting and evolution of program standards as well as the assessment of specialty
candidates and the ongoing maintenance of competence.
DOUGLAS HEDDEN University of Alberta
Dr Hedden received his medical degree and orthopedic training at
Queens’s University in Kingston, Ontario. He completed a pediatric orthopedic fellowship at the University of Toronto at the
Hospital for Sick Children with a special interest in spinal deformity. He had further training in Boston at the Massachusetts General Hospital completing a research fellowship
through Harvard University. In 2005 Dr Hedden moved his pediatric spine practice from the Hospital for Sick Children to the
University of Alberta/Stollery Children’s Hospital where he was Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Stollery Children’s Hospital and Director of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Alberta. Since
2006 Dr. Hedden has been the Walter Stirling Anderson Professor and Chair of Surgery in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Alberta. He is also the Zone Clinical
Department Head, Surgery – Edmonton Zone. He co-chairs the Provincial Surgical Strategic Clinical Network, a committee of Alberta Health Services. Dr. Hedden is very involved at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He is past Chair of
the Specialty Committee for Orthopaedic Surgery and currently Chairs the Surgical Foundations Advisory Committee and the Regional Advisory Committee for Region 1
(BC, Alberta, NWT and YT). He also serves on the Accreditation Committee and is an active surveyor and Royal College Council Member. Clinically he remains active with a
practice dedicated to the treatment of children with spinal disorders. We are planning the transition to Competency Based Education and will incorporate the
new competencies as outlined in CanMED 2015.

Dr. Horsley is the Associate Director, Research Unit at the
Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Beyond her administrative functions that include overseeing the Royal
College’s education research grants program, her own research explores the influence and impacts of integrated knowledge translation with a particular focus on organizational
contexts for the co-creation, use, contribution to change within complex systems of care. She is also dedicated to studying
and improving the transparency and completeness of reporting of medical education research.
Tanya is sought-after as a consulting methodologist on studies involving evidence synthesis approaches, lifelong learning
within professional practice and knowledge translation. She has published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles ranging from integrative systematic reviews to experimental /mixed-methods designs.
She actively teaches courses on evidence syntheses in the University of Ottawa’s
Faculty of Medicine and chairs several national and international peer review committees. Dr. Horsley also proudly serves as the associate editor (reviews) for the Journal of Continuing Education in the Health Professions & the Canadian Medical

Trinidad Hoyl, MD is professor of Geriatric Medicine at the

Dr. Imrie is the physician-in-chief at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, and a clinical hematologist at Sunnybrook’s Odette Cancer Centre where he specializes in
Malignant Hematology. He began his two-year term as President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of
Canada (Royal College) in February 2015. Dr. Imrie is an internationally-recognized educator who has served in a number of leadership capacities with the Royal
College, regulatory colleges and the University of Toronto — where he is currently a professor of Medicine in the Faculty of
Medicine. His areas of special interest include competency-based education, work-based assessment, and resident duty hours. Dr. Imrie was the co-chair of the National Steering
Committee on Resident Duty Hours — a pan-Canadian consensus process on a way forward for resident duty hours in Canada that published its final recommendations in
2013 — and has served as co-chair of the Royal College’s International Conference on Residency Education. Dr. Imrie has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications and more than 160
abstracts. He has authored papers on important topics in education including resident duty hours, Generalism, the dual roles of residents as learners and as care providers,

Distinguished Contribution to Medical Education. He has served as residency program director for both Hematology and Internal Medicine at the University of Toronto, as well

Dr Ian Incoll is an Australian orthopaedic and hand surgeon. He

Margaret Kennedy is the Associate Director, International Outreach
at the Royal College. She joined Royal College International (RCI) in January 2013. Prior to this appointment, Margaret was the Assistant Director, Accreditation and Liaison at the Royal College for
4 years where she oversaw the accreditation process of 85 specialty and subspecialty residency programs. Prior to that Margaret was
the Manager of the Educational Standards Unit which was responsible for the management and coordination of the Royal College postgraduate accreditation system.
With over 20 years’ experience at the Royal College, she has
expertise in program evaluation, developing accreditation standards and processes as well as facilitating workshops for program directors on accreditation and program development. She has also developed and conducted workshops to train surveyors on
the principles and process of conducting program evaluations. In the role of Associate Director, RCI, Margaret facilitates workshops for program directors, faculty, residents
and others involved in residency education around the world. She also offers mentoring and coaching for programs/institutions interested in seeking Royal College accreditation.
Since moving to RCI, Margaret took the lead to develop international accreditation
standards by which the Royal College would accredit postgraduate programs outside of Canada. She has also been instrumental in developing the process by which international programs would be accredited.

PATRICIA A. KING Federation of State Medical Boards
Patricia King, MD, PhD, FACP, is a member of the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) Board of Directors (2014-present) and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of
Vermont, College of Medicine. She served on the Vermont State Board of Medical Practice from 2003 to 2015, serving as chair
from 2010-2015. At the University of Vermont, Dr. King is active in medical school curriculum development and medical student and resident teaching, and she practices general
internal medicine in the UVM medical group. She has developed a medical school curriculum for teaching professionalism,
medical licensing, and medical regulation, that has featured collaboration with the VT Medical Board and student
participation in a simulation of a board investigative committee meeting as the
committee reviews mock complaints against physicians. She has been recognized as a Master Teacher in the UVM Teaching Academy. For the FSMB, Dr. King currently serves
on the executive, finance, governance, and investment committees. She is the chair of the FSMB Workgroup on “Teaching Medical Regulation in Medical School and Residency.” This is a national multi stakeholder group convened to develop online
educational modules that promote professionalism and knowledge about state medical boards, state licensing, and medical regulation. In addition, she is a member of the
USMLE Ambulatory Care Test Development Committee (United States Medical Licensing Exam) and a member of the USMLE Composite Committee. Dr. King earned her PhD in Physiology from Brown University and MD from the University Of Vermont, College of
Medicine.
FRANCINE LEMIRE College of Family Physicians of Canada
Dr Francine Lemire obtained her medical degree from McGill University and then did an internship in internal medicine. She completed her family medicine residency at Memorial University
of Newfoundland, which included enhanced skills training in anesthesia. She obtained Certification in Family Medicine from
the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) in 1979 and became a Fellow in 1993.
Dr Lemire practiced comprehensive family medicine for 23 years in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Intrapartum care and anesthesia were important elements of her scope of practice. From 2003 to 2013, she worked on a part-time basis with the Toronto Western Family Health Team at Toronto Western Hospital. She has academic appointments at
the University of Toronto and Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Dr Lemire represents the College in the World Organization of National Colleges,
Academies and Academic Associations of General Practitioners/Family Physicians (WONCA). She has also served on the Mental Health Commission of Canada as a

member of the Service Systems Advisory Committee. She has represented the CFPC on a number of other initiatives, such as the International Medical Graduate Taskforce

During the late 1980s Dr Lemire was proud to be President of the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Family Physicians. From 1998 to 1999 she served as President of
the CFPC and from 1995 to 2000 was a member of the National Executive Committee. She began working with the CFPC in 2003 and has since participated in many leadership
roles. In 2003 Dr Lemire became the CFPC’s Director of Membership, and in 2006 she was promoted to the position of Associate Executive Director of Professional Affairs. In
2012 Dr Lemire was appointed Executive Director and CEO of the CFPC.
LORRAINE C. LEWIS ACGME International
Lorraine C. Lewis, EdD, RD is Executive Director, Accreditation Services for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical
Education–International (ACGME-I). She joined ACGME in 2011 as the Executive Director for the Review Committees for Anesthesiology, Preventive Medicine, and the Transitional Year.
Before joining the ACGME, Dr. Lewis was manager of predoctoral dental education and international accreditation for the
Commission on Dental Accreditation. Dr. Lewis earned an EdD in Higher Education Policy and
Administration from the University of Minnesota, where she conducted research on faculty attitudes and practices related to
program evaluation. She also has an MS in Allied Health and a BS in Medical Dietetics, both from The Ohio State University.
Recognitions and honors include serving on the American Dietetic Association's (ADA) Position Committee where she edited association Position Papers on home

Professor Donald Li is a specialist in Family Medicine in private practice in Hong Kong. He is the President of the Hong Kong
Academy of Medicine, and also the chairman of the governing committee of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness
and Response Institute of the Academy. Professor Li is the Honorary Treasurer and member-at-large of World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) and Censor of the Hong Kong College
of Family Physicians.

Throughout his career, he has been a leading expert and ardent advocate in promoting better primary care and family health in Hong Kong, China and internationally.
Professor Li has been an invited speaker at numerous local, regional and international scientific meetings. He is an active member serving on many Hong Kong governmental
and public health bodies. He also dedicates much of his professional time to academia and teaching. He is Honorary Clinical Professor in Family Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, also Honorary Professor of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine
of the University of Hong Kong. He is advisor to the People’s Republic of China in general practice development and enhancement, and Honorary Consultancy Professor
of Medical College of Fudan University, Shanghai, China. He has received Honorary Fellow degrees from different academic colleges around the world in family medicine and general medicine.
FELIX LI Consultant
Dr. Felix Li is public health physician and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Li did a lot of
work coordinating residency training cooperation (in various specialties and family medicine) between Canada and China during
2008-2015, while he was Minister-Counsellor (Health) at the Canadian Embassy in Beijing, China. After his retirement from public service in 2015, Dr Li continues to do consulting work, with
special interest in medical education cooperation between Canada and China.

After completing her MD degree and residency training in Pediatrics at McGill University in 1981, she became a consultant
Pediatrician for 2 community hospitals near Ottawa, Ontario. She returned to Montreal in 1983 as Director of the Emergency
Department at the Montreal Children’s Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre. Other positions included those of
Associate Physician-in-Chief at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and Director of the Pediatric Network of the McGill University
Health Centre.

Fellow of the American College of physicians. Trained as a hematologist at the St. Thomas’ hospital in UK and
obtained a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and hosted the UK Royal College’s exams in Egypt.
Worked as professor and head of hematology at Cairo University, Egypt till 2010. Moved to Canada since 2010 joining the Saskatoon
cancer centre as a hematologist and the college of medicine and the Graduate College
of studies and research of the University of Saskatchewan as a clinical professor, heavily involved in clinical undergraduate and graduate teaching.
Appointed as regional adviser to the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh for Eastern Canada and became an overseas fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine. Shared in writing and editing of Davidson’s textbook of medicine and its clinical cases
and served as a reviewer and editorial member for numerous hematology journals. Research interests include blood derived biomaterials, viral inactivation of plasma and
platelet cancer interactions. Published around 38 peer reviewed articles and reviews in the last 5 years.
RODNEY MITCHELL Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists
Dr Rodney Mitchell is the Vice-President of the Australian and
New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA), and the Chair of the ANZCA Professional Affairs Executive Committee. He
also sits on the College CPD, Indigenous Health and JCCA (General Practice anaesthesia) committees.
He works in both the public and private sector in South Australia, in both anaesthesia and intensive care. He has
previously spent nine years working in Central Australia, and retains an interest in rural/remote health issues, and indigenous health issues.

VIREN NAIK The Ottawa Hospital
Dr. Viren Naik is the Vice President, Education for The Ottawa Hospital and Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Ottawa. He has 20 years experience as an educator, and is
now focused on leading interprofessional education initiatives at his hospital to enhance the learner experience and
improve the quality and safety for patients. In 2001, he obtained a Master of Education degree from the
University of Toronto, and a Fellowship in Education from The Wilson Centre for Research in Education. Following his
training, Dr. Naik was recruited to St. Michael’s Hospital, where he started a Research Fellowship program in
Simulation that has been successful with over 95 peer-reviewed publications and
grants. In 2009, he was recruited from the University of Toronto to establish the University of Ottawa Skills and Simulation Centre (uOSSC) as the inaugural Medical
Director. In 2014, he was promoted to full Professor, and appointed Vice President, Education.
In 2007 and 2013, Dr. Naik received honour awards from the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society for his international contributions to education. He previously
served the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as Chair of the national written certification examination for his specialty. He has also served as a Clinician Educator with the Royal College tasked with advancing simulation and CanMEDS for
postgraduate education and continuing professional development, both nationally and internationally. He is still currently a Regional Director for Royal College International,
primarily responsible for developing the collaboration with Kuwait.
JONAS NORDQUIST Karolinska University Hospital
Jonas Nordquist, PhD, is the director of the Medical Case
Centre at Karolinska Institutet and he is the associate DIO, in charge of the strategic educational development for the residency programs at the Karolinska University Hospital. He
received his PhD in political science from Stockholm University in Sweden in 2001 and joined Karolinska Institutet
in 2003. He has served as a WHO expert in medical education in the
areas of curriculum design of international health professional education and sex and reproductive health. Dr. Nordquist is a Harvard-
Macy scholar in medical education at Harvard Medical School. He has been involved in projects in more than 40 countries around the world and is the author of three books and several peer-reviews papers.

Dr. Nordquist is an affiliated scholar at the Wilson Centre, University of Toronto. He is also visiting faculty at the International Medical University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia;
Makerere School of Medicine, Kampala, Uganda; medical educational expert to the University of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; visiting professor and external assessor to the
Guatemala Medical Academy. Jonas Nordquist is also on the planning advisory committee to the Royal College of
Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for the International Conference on Residency Education (ICRE) and he serves as the strategic educational expert to the European
Hematology Association. Dr. Nordquist’s research focuses on educational leadership and also currently on how
physical space impacts on learning.
JOHN OGUNKEYE ACGME-International
Mr. John Ogunkeye joined the ACGME in August 2013 as its Chief
Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Operations, and as Executive Vice President for ACGME International. For nearly three decades, he held a variety of management positions within
academic medical centers. He started his career in 1985 as a division administrator at the University of Texas Health Sciences in
Houston. Since then, he assumed expanding scope and responsibilities, culminating in his most recent position at Johns Hopkins Medicine, where he served as vice president and chief
administrative officer for the Office of Johns Hopkins Physicians. He also served as the associate dean and executive director for the
clinical practice association and clinical research operations and finance for the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
Prior to joining Johns Hopkins University, Mr. Ogunkeye served as the Chief Operating Officer of Jefferson Medical College, and as the executive director and vice president for
Jefferson University Physicians (JUP), a large, multi-specialty physician group practice based in Philadelphia. Before JUP, Mr. Ogunkeye was the executive director and chief executive officer of Morehouse Medical Associates in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mr. Ogunkeye has broad management experience with medical school departments, having served as a department administrator at a number of medical schools. He was
an administrator in surgery departments at West Virginia University, the University of Colorado, and at the University of Chicago. Mr. Ogunkeye has served on a number of non-profit boards which include physician practices, a governmental authority, an
international agency, and an insurance captive. He holds master’s of science degrees in biology and health care administration.

ANN O’SHAUGHNESSY The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland
Ann O'Shaughnessy is the Head of Education, Innovation and Research in the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI). Ann graduated from the Institute of Technology and Trinity College
Dublin and initially worked as a researcher in vascular medicine both in Dublin and in New York, USA. She joined RCPI in
September 2007 and currently manages a team of educationalists and researchers on the development of high quality medical education programmes for doctors at all levels. She has
implemented a structured approach to curricula and assessments, aligned to international and national best-practice, paying
particular attention to the practicality and fit with the Irish health provision context. Ann is also leading in the development of programmes in quality improvement, leadership and physician
wellbeing which is becoming increasingly important in medical education and practice. With her team, she has built an educational prospectus with wide range of bespoke
programmes of increasing market demands with a strong emphasis on patient-safety and care.
ANDREW PADMOS The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
Andrew Padmos joined the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as its Chief Executive Officer in
September 2006 and since then has led an ambitious agenda of change, development and expansion to enhance postgraduate medical education and training, membership
engagement and recognition, volunteer programs, health policy, external relations and international outreach.
Dr. Padmos came to the Royal College in Ottawa, Ontario from Halifax, Nova Scotia, where from 1998 he was commissioner of Cancer Care Nova Scotia, head of the
Cancer Care Program at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, associate dean for cancer programs in the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University
and VP Research, Academic Affairs and Quality for Capital District Health Authority. Educated in political sciences and economics at Trinity College in the University of Toronto and in medicine in the first class at McMaster University, Dr. Padmos completed
specialty training in internal medicine and hematology and was certified by the Royal College in those specialties in 1976. A hematologist by profession, Dr. Padmos practised
in Calgary, Alberta for two years before a 15-year term at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. During that time, he introduced a bone marrow transplant program, managed a large clinical program in hematology and
oncology and served in many administrative capacities, including head of the department of oncology.
Dr. Padmos has extensive experience in clinical practice and a background of leadership, administration and management that spans 35 years. He serves or has served on the boards of Research Canada, the Ottawa Community Cancer Foundation,

the International Advisory Board for King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (2008-2011), the International Advisory Board for the Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia

Dr. Padmos is grateful for the opportunity to lead the Royal College and to stimulate and manage significant change. Transforming PGME through “Competence by Design” and the expansion of international outreach to Saudi Arabia, other Gulf countries,
China, and Chile, in the healthcare and higher education sectors, has been exciting and worthwhile for members, clients, and partners in global health.
INGRID PHILIBERT Journal of Graduate Medical Education
Dr. Philibert is the Senior Vice President of the Department of Field Activities at the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical
Education (ACGME). She is responsible for ACGME’s 32 MD and PhD accreditation field representatives, for all aspects of the approximately 2,000 site visits conducted annually at accredited
program and sponsoring institutions, and for related data collection, policies and procedures, and professional and
program development efforts. She also serves as the Executive Managing Editor for the Journal
of Graduate Medical Education and staffs the Journal Oversight Committee and Editorial Board.
Dr. Philibert received master’s degrees in hospital and health
care administration and business administration, and a doctorate in philosophy, all from
the University of Iowa.
She has served as an at-large member of the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) Board of Directors from March 2007 to April 2015, and has served as a member of the NBME for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for 2000, 2001, 2004, and
2005, and as Senior/Alumni Examiner for 2006, 2008–2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016. Her research interests are patient handoffs in teaching settings, simulation and
research in medical education, and the effect of limits on resident duty hours on resident learning and acquisition of competence and the provision of clinical care in teaching institutions.

Dr. Bill Pope is Winnipeg born and took his medical school and
Anesthesiology training at the University of Manitoba. He has been Section Head of Adult Anesthesia at the HSC, Program Director in Anesthesiology and Undergraduate Associate Dean
at the University of Manitoba as well as Chief Examiner in Anesthesia for the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of
Canada. He is a Past President of the Federation of Medical Regulatory Authorities of Canada.
Dr. Pope took a law degree in ‘late youth’ and was Executive Vice-President, Medical Services for St. Joseph’s Hospital Hamilton. Bill returned to Winnipeg to be Assistant Registrar
[Complaints] at the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Manitoba. Since 1999, he has been Registrar and CEO of the
CPSM.
KARIM QAYUMI Royal College International
Dr. Qayumi is a Professor of Surgery and Director of the Simulation Fellowship at The University of British Columbia and
the Paetzold Chair of Technology Enabled Learning for Vancouver Coastal Health. He is a member of the Accreditation Committee for the American College of Surgeons Accredited Education
Institutes, and a Regional Director of the Royal College International.
Dr. Qayumi has completed a variety of research projects. The
most significant contribution being to technology related research, such as the artificially intelligent interactive multimedia software called CyberPatient and an online learning delivery system,
Electronic Platform for Education and Research (e-PER).

Dr. Rungta is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University
of British Columbia. He is a Royal College Councillor and a Board member of Royal College International. Dr. Rungta is Chair of the
Royal College International Program Review Committee. He is also a member of the Royal College Accreditation Committee and the Residency Accreditation Committee.
AJIT K. SACHDEVA American College of Surgeons
Dr. Sachdeva is the founding Director of the Division of Education at the American College of Surgeons. He established this new
division, which is responsible for the development and implementation of innovative educational programs for surgeons, surgery residents, medical students and members of surgical
teams. Under Dr. Sachdeva’s leadership, several major education and training initiatives have been launched. These include
programs to promote expertise and excellence in surgery; cutting-edge simulation-based programs; Program for Accreditation of Education Institutes (Simulation Centers); a range of continuous
professional development programs; and an innovative Patient Education Program. Dr. Sachdeva also serves as Adjunct Professor of Surgery at The
Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. Dr. Sachdeva was awarded the Distinguished Educator Award (a Lifetime Achievement
Award) by the Association for Surgical Education and the Award for Outstanding Contributions to Healthcare Simulation from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
He has also received the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching, the Blockley-Osler Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching, the Board of Trustees’ Award for Teaching Excellence, and Golden Apple Awards for teaching excellence. Dr. Sachdeva has served
on the Boards of the ACCME and ACGME.
Dr. Sachdeva has served as President of the Association for Surgical Education, President of the American Association for Cancer Education, President of the Alliance for Clinical Education, and President of the Council of Medical Specialty Societies. Dr.

ANURAG SAXENA University of Saskatchewan
Dr. Anurag Saxena is the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education at the University of Saskatchewan and in this role is
responsible for the oversight of all residency training programs in Saskatchewan. He is Professor of Pathology and a practicing
pathologist in Saskatoon Health Region. Dr. Saxena completed his M.Ed. from the University of Saskatchewan and MBA from the University of Wales. He has leadership certification from the
Canadian College of Health Leaders and the Canadian Society of Physician Executives.
A recipient of the Master Teacher Award of the University of
Saskatchewan, he is passionate about teaching and is involved in undergraduate and
postgraduate teaching and external teaching through workshops on various aspects of leadership and change. His current research interest is in leadership in medical
education and health services and in the medical education systems. One of his current projects is on assessment and changes to the learning environment in medical education.
LINDA SMITH The Royal Australasian College of Physicians
Linda Smith was appointed to the role of Chief Executive Officer of
The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) in December 2014. Prior to the appointment, Linda was Interim CEO from May 2014. She is responsible for the day to day running of the College
and was previously a Deputy CEO at the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service and a former CEO at Western Australia
Health. Linda joined the College in December 2011 as its Director of Fellowship Relations with responsibility for the College’s Fellowship,
Trainee and Library Committees, Divisions, Faculties, Chapters, State, Territory and New Zealand Offices and the Media &
Communications unit. Central to her role was the development and support of positive relationships between the College and the Fellowship across Australia and New Zealand. Since becoming CEO, Linda has supported the Board of the College in its Governance
Reform, introduced project management and co-design principles and engaged with staff over culture and transformation changes particularly in information technology as
well as establishing a Senior Leadership Forum. Linda is a broad health industry specialist with over 25 years’ experience across change management, financial management and general administrative management roles,
with an emphasis on design and business process re-engineering. She was also the Director of Clinical Operations at the Northern Sydney/Central Coast
Area Health Service (NSCCH) and a senior consultant at the Roads and Traffic Authority of NSW.

Linda Smith established the area health service, strategically positioned the organisation to progress its A$1.2 billion 5 year capital expansion plan to service the growing needs of the community and targeted productivity improvements to cope with
significant increase demands for surgical and emergency presentations. Linda has a Bachelor of Business in Accounting and is a Fellow of CPA Australia. She
also has a Masters’ degrees in Business Administration and an Executive Master of Public Administration and is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD).
ALEXEY SOZINOV Kazan State Medical University
A physician, scientist, academic leader, and active public servant, Dr. Sozinov has
served as the Rector of Kazan State Medical University (KSMU, Russia) since 2008. In 2013, he was appointed as the corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, and in 2014 he was elected as a Deputy of State Parliament
of the Republic of Tatarstan (Russia). Dr. Sozinov graduated with Honors from Kazan State Medical Institute in 1987, and completed his residency there in infectious
diseases. He subsequently earned his PhD in Infectious Diseases, and in 2004 was awarded the prestigious Doctor of Science degree. He joined the faculty in the Department of Infectious Diseases at Kazan State Medical Institute in 1992, and in
1996 was appointed Vice-Rector of Educational Affairs for Kazan State Medical University. In 2003, he also became Head of the Department of Biomedical Ethics and
Medical Legislation. He serves as chief editor of the Kazan Medical Journal and as Vice-President of Council of Rectors of the Republic of Tatarstan. KSMU is one of the top medical schools in Russia. As the main medical school in
Tatarstan, KSMU educates doctors and nurses for the region with a population of more than three million people, and has a strong emphasis on health and biomedical sciences
and combining fundamental science with teaching practical skills. Along with students from across the Russian Federation, more than nine hundred students from 53 countries all around the world study at KSMU.

SALVATORE M. SPADAFORA University of Toronto
Dr. Salvatore (Sal) Spadafora is the Vice Dean, Post MD Education
[Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) & Continuing Professional Development (CPD)] at the University of Toronto, a Professor in the Department of Anesthesia at the University of Toronto and an
anesthesiologist at Mt. Sinai Hospital, in Toronto. He previously served as Vice Dean PGME at the University of Toronto and
Associate Dean, PGME at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario.
Dr. Spadafora received his MD from the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine, and also completed his Masters in Health
Professions Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has distinguished himself as a leader in medical education as a past Program Director
for the University of Western Ontario's Royal College Anesthesia and CFPC Family Medicine-Anesthesia residency programs; and, nationally as a member of important leadership committees of the Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society and the Royal College
of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Dr. Spadafora has advocated effectively and tirelessly for medical education to benefit Canadian patient populations with respect to fiscal and human resources, education methodology and technology, and the social mission of medical education including
developing strategies to integrate education in urban and small community sites. He has developed models of inter-professional education and assessment and integration
of international medical graduates provincially.
ROGER STRASSER Northern Ontario School of Medicine
Professor Roger Strasser is a leader in the global reform of health
professional education. Recognizing the importance of context and community in medical education and research, Professor Strasser has gained an international reputation for developing and refining
novel strategies to train health professionals in and for rural communities. As a result of his formative work in his field,
Professor Strasser has become one of the world’s foremost authorities in rural, socially accountable medical education, as well as a sought-after speaker and advisor.
Prior to moving to Northern Ontario in 2002 with his wife of over
30 years, Professor Sarah Strasser, and their five children, Roger Strasser was Professor of Rural Health and Head of the Monash University School of Rural Health in Australia and had an international role with the World Organization of
Family Doctors (WONCA) as Chair of the Working Party on Rural Practice from 1992-2004.

SANDRA TURNER Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Radiologists
Sandra is a radiation oncologist in Sydney who is very involved with training and assessment conducted through the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of radiologists, (RANZCR) - Faculty of
Radiation Oncology. She was the Chair of the Education and Training committee and chief examiner in radiation oncology (Chief
Censor) for several years. She was one of the leaders and champions of the ‘new’ competency-based curriculum and re-design of the training program in radiation oncology across Aus. and NZ
which was implemented in 2009. Since then she has enrolled in post-graduate study in medical education and is conducting her PhD
around the learning of leadership in specialty training, especially for trainees within her field. She is on the Council of her College where
she leads a public awareness and education program for GPs and the general public
around radiation therapy as an under-used and poorly understood cancer treatment. Sandra has established and convened an international collaboration in radiation
oncology education linking education leaders in her discipline across Europe, the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. She has enjoyed being part of TISLEP and joining one of their working groups to further develop Leader resources through the
CanMEDS2015 project. This will be her first attendance at IMLEF.
SARITA VERMA University of Toronto
Dr. Sarita Verma is a Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, and until January 2016, Associate Vice-
Provost, Relations with Health Care Institutions and Special Advisor to the Dean of Medicine at the University of Toronto.
Formerly the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine (2008-2015) and Associate Vice-Provost, Health Professions Education (2010-2015), she is a family physician who originally trained as a
lawyer at the University of Ottawa (1981) and later completed her medical degree at McMaster University (1991). She has been
a Diplomat in Canada’s Foreign Service and worked with UNHCR in Sudan and Ethiopia for several years. Dr. Verma is the 2006
recipient of the Donald Richards Wilson Award in medical education from the Royal
College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; From 2009-2011, she was one of the lead consultants for the Future of Medical Education in Canada Postgraduate project.
For six years she held the position of Governor at the University of Toronto, has been a board member of several teaching hospitals, the Michener Institute, Associated Medical Services and the Chair of the Canadian Residency Matching Service. From 2011 to
2015, she was the Co-lead for the Canadian Interprofessional Health Leadership Collaborative (CIHLC) at the Institute of Medicine’s Global Forum on Innovation in
Health Professions Education and is a key member of the Association of Academic Health Centers International Steering Committee. Dr. Verma is a highly sought-after visionary and scholar.

LEONA WALSH Cardiff University
Following a career in Interpreting & Translation and working with vulnerable groups, I was seconded to the School of Postgraduate
Medical & Dental Education (Wales Deanery) to work with Asylum Seeking and Refugee Doctors in 2001. My roles in the Wales
Deanery since include managing International Medical Graduates, Specialty Training Recruitment and most recently Professional Support to doctors and dentists in training. I led projects such as
the first UK National Recruitment, recruitment of doctors to Wales from abroad and the Remediation and Rehabilitation work-stream
for Revalidation of Doctors in Wales.
I am an experienced trainer leading on educational activities to senior faculty in Wales
in the area of recognition of issues affecting progression through medical and dental postgraduate training, maximising performance, performance support, mentoring and
wellbeing. I have completed LLM in Employment Law at Leicester University to expand my
knowledge in this area. Furthermore a Certificate in Occupational Health Law enables me to advise and operate safely in the areas of occupational health, health and safety,
disability and employment law. I have trained in Resilience / Trauma Risk Management (TRiM), I am certified in Realise 2 (strength based assessment and development tool), a qualified Mentor and a NLP Practitioner.
My training and experience enable me to work with individuals and organisations to
unlock potential, through realising strengths to maximise performance and achieve goals.
LEONA WILSON Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists
Leona Wilson is a practising anaesthetist in Wellington (New Zealand) and Executive Director Professional Affairs (DPA)
of ANZCA. As part of the latter role she is the a member of ANZCA’s Executive committee, an observer on the Council, Chair of ANZCA’s Trainee Performance Review
subcommittee, is DPA supporting ANZCA’s assessment of Specialist International Medical Graduates (SIMG), and
manager for all medical practitioners employed by ANZCA. She is a former president of ANZCA, and has had numerous other roles within ANZCA, including Chair of the New
Zealand National Committee, Education and Training Committee, Hospital Accreditation Committee, CPD
Committee and SIMG Committee.

She is Chair of (New Zealand) the Perioperative Mortality Committee, a statutory committee that is part of the Health Quality and Safety Commission and investigates
perioperative deaths to support quality improvement processes and decrease the number of preventable deaths. She is also is a member of the panel of medical
practitioners who assist the Medical Council of New Zealand with reviewing the competence of individual medical practitioners and a member of the medical practitioner panel for the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal.
Recent presentations and research activities have focused on perioperative mortality,
including providing data for the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery. Earlier presentations have covered various aspects of education and professionalism.
CATHERINE YELLAND The Royal Australasian College of Physicians
Dr Catherine Yelland is a geriatrician and general physician in full time hospital practice at Redcliffe Hospital, north of
Brisbane. She graduated from the University of Queensland in 1981, and trained in general medicine and geriatric medicine at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and
in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. She was awarded FRACP in 1989. Dr Yelland has worked at the major Brisbane
hospitals as well as Redcliffe. Dr Yelland was President of the Adult Medicine Division of
The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) from 2010-2012, and served on the College Board from 2009-
2012. She was President of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine from 2007-2009, and has served on numerous State committees associated with Aged Care and Women in Medicine. In 2013 Dr Yelland was awarded the John
Sands Medal for her contribution to the RACP and the following year was awarded the Queensland Public Service Medal (PSM) for Services to Older Persons.
Dr Yelland is interested in clinical medicine, student and post graduate teaching, and service development. She has three adult children, two of whom are medical students.
