The Kimbell Art Museum :

The Kimbell Art Museum

Kay Kimbell was a wealthy businessman who was interested in collecting art pieces along with his wife Velma Fuller,by the time of his death in 1964, and he left the best selections of old masters in the southwest to the Kimbell Art Foundation.

This building/museum was designed by Luis Khan, and it's one of the most insignificant pieces of architecture in recent times,this museum hosts a small but excellent collection of art work and an extensive research library,this museum is found in Texas, it is composed of 16 parallel vaults that are 100 feet long each,6 meters wide, this building design also includes skylight, providing the building with natural sun light, with the help of the lighting designer Richard Kelly, who investigated about 100 approaches of different skylight systems while designing this building, the building is surrounded by beautiful landscaping done by Luis Khan himself.

James Stirling and the Neue Staatsgalerie :

James Stirling is a scottish architect, born in April 22nd in 1926 in Glasgow, and he's one of the most important and influential architects of the second half of the 20th

century,died in 1992 in London.

James Stirling accomplished a lot in his life, including the design of Neue Staatsgalerie in Stuttgart in Germany,associated with Micheal Wilford, although it is legally accredited to only James Stirling himself, this building was one of the most important buildings that represent post-modernism.

James Stirling intended to combine the monumental with the informal such as the bright pink and blue steel handrails appearing in the image above.

The building's most important feature is the central open-top rotunda,this outdoor enclosed space houses the sculpture garden in the gallery.

Born in 1904 in Kansas,Bruce Goff is an american architect known for his organic and electric designs in Oklahoma and elsewhere.

The bavinger house was built in 1955 in Norman,Oklahoma,United States,it is considered a huge example of organic architecture.

The wall of the house is a 96 foot long curved spiral,made from 200 tons of local sandstone,the house has no interior walls, instead there are a series of platforms at different heights, some with curtains that can be drawn for privacy, the ground floor is covered with pools and planted areas.

The New York Five :

is the name of a group consisting of five architects in New York city, those arechitects are (Peter Eisenman, Micheal Graves, Charles Gwathmy, John Hidjuk and Richard meier.), these five had a common allegiance to a pure form of architectural modernism, influenced by Le Corbusier.

Chicago Tirbune Tower Compitition entry :The winning entry was a design by new york architects John Howells and Raymond hood, architect Saarenin ,The third place entry was submitted by Walter Gropius, best known as the founder of the Bauhaus school in Germany,his design for the Tribune building shares many of the same attributes as his iconic design for the Bauhaus building.

Gothenburg Library :

The Gothenburg Public Library is a Carnegie Library. It was built in 1916 and is recognized in the National Register of Historical Buildings. The Library recently constructed a 1.5-million dollar addition including a technology room with Internet access. This addition was fully paid for by the Gothenburg Library Foundation. The Library contains over 31,000 books and other items and has an average annual circulation of over 50,000. The library also has a collection of large print books. Many audiovisual machines are available. The library houses a collection of the old newspapers from Gothenburg Times and Gothenburg Independent, which can be viewed on the microfilm reader/printer. Books that are carried at the Gothenburg Library can be checked on-line using the online catalog This new feature will also tell whether or not a book is checked out,Library activities include a preschool story hour during the winter months and a summer reading program for school-age children. The hospital, nursing home, and shut-ins are serviced from the library.

Abraham Lincoln's statue in Washington and the effects of lighting :

Daniel chester french, a sculptor who was the first to use artificial lighting on purpose,lighting can change the content of work and it's meaning such as in Architecture and sculpting, Daniel maintained a strong,confident Lincoln in the left picture with downlighting (light from above the statue), and a frightened Lincoln at the right side of the picture using the sun light reflected from the floor.

Architect Luis Barragan :

Full name: Luis Ramiro Barragan Morfin. Luis Barragan is a mexican architect frequently referred to as Mexico's most influential architect in the 20th century, born on march 9,1902.He studied engineering at first then worked his way and achieved the title of architect, he graduated from the Escuela Libre de ingenieros in Guadalajara in 1923.

Barragan had several remarkable accomplishments such as designing his own house and studio in Tacubaya, he also planned the residential development of jardines del pedregal, in 1964 along side architect Juan Madaleno,they designed the Lomas Verdes residential area.

After his death,aged 86, in Mexico in 1988, two organizations were created to help manage Barragan's legacy.
