PREFACE
All India Coordinated Research Project on Potato initiated in 1970-71 is operating through
17 State Agricultural Universities based centers, 7 ICAR-CPRI based centers and 1 voluntary
center.
In this 46th Annual Report of AICRP (Potato), experiments conducted during summer/kharif
2017 in hills/plateau and rabi 2017-18 in the plains have been reported. There were 11
experiments in Crop Improvement, 14 in Crop Production and 11 in Crop Protection at
various locations. Efforts have been made to collect, consolidate, analyze and compile the
data collected from those experiments in this report. Based on the pooled analysis of the
performance data of advanced hybrids, three promising hybrids have been identified and
are being proposed for release. Besides, three technologies related to Crop Production &
one related to Plant Protection have been identified and if recommended, will be passed on
to the respective State Department of Agriculture/Horticulture.
I would like to record my sincere thanks to Dr AK Singh, Deputy Director General
(Horticultural Science), Dr T Janakiram, Assistant Director General (Horticultural Science-I),

At most of the locations late blight did not appear or was not reported except Dholi (20 to 45%), Jorhat (100%), Kanpur (15-25%) and Pasighat (7.1 to 12.7%). Incidence of leaf spot (0 to 45.6% and viral disease (0 to 28.3%) were recorded at different locations. Red skin hybrid PS/8-88 outyielded the best controls (Kufri Lalit or Kufri Lalima) at Bhubaneshwar (75/90 days), Faizabad (75/90 days), Gwalior (75 days), Modipuram (75/90 days), Pantngar (90 days), and Patna (75/90 days). Another red skin hybrid, PS/5-75 out yielded the best controls (Kufri Lalit or Kufri Lalima) at Modipuram (75/90 days) and Patna (75/90 days). White skin hybrid MP/6-39 could not out yield the best controls Kufri Ganga, Kufri Khyati, Kufri Pukhraj, Kufri Garima and Kufri Mohan at most of the locations, However, it showed some yield increase over Kufri Bahar at five locations viz., Chindwara, Gwalior, Kanpur, Kota, Modipuram and Pantngar at 75/ 90 days crop duration. Another, white skin hybrid MS/8-1148 out yielded the controls Kufri Ganga (2 locations), Kufri Khyati (4 locations), Kufri Pukhraj (4 locations), Kufri Jyoti (4 locations), Kufri Garima (5 locations), Kufri Mohan (2) and Kufri Bahar (6 locations) at 75 days. Similarly, at 90 day it outyielded the controls, Kufri Ganga (1 locations), Kufri Khyati (6 locations), Kufri Pukhraj (8 locations), Kufri Jyoti (4 locations), Kufri Garima (9 locations, Kufri Mohan (1) and Kufri Bahar (7 locations). Advanced hybrids PS/8-88, PS/5-75, MP/6-39 and MS/8-1148 possessed nearly 18% tuber dry matter content at 90 days at most of the locations. The keeping quality studies at six locations namely Bhubaneshwar, Deesa, Modipuram, Pantnagar, Pune and Raipur indicated low total weight loss in PS/6-88 and PS/5-75 (4 locations), MP/6-39 (4 locations) and MS/8-1148 (3 locations) as compared to best controls Performance based on pooled data over locations PS/05-75: The hybrid could not perform superior than controls Kufri Lalima and Kufri Lalit in northern, central and eastern plains at 75 or 90 days crop duration. PS/06-88: The hybrid remained at par for total tuber yield in northern plains (75, 90 days) and eastern plains (75 days) as compared to control Kufri Lalima and Kufri Lalit. The hybrid yielded significantly higher for total tuber yield at 90 days in eastern plains as compared to control Kufri Lalima and Kufri Lalit. The yield hybrid showed significantly high total tuber yield at 90 days at Bhubaneshwar, Dholi, Faizbad and Patna as compared to controls Kufri Lalima and Kufri Lalit. The hybrid showed variable tuber dry matter content in northern plains (17%), central plains (18%) and eastern plains (21%). MP/06-39: The hybrid could not perform superior than controls Kufri Bahar, Kufri Khyati, Kufri Pukhraj and Kufri Ganga in Northern, central and eastern plains at 75 or 90 days crop duration. MS/8-1148: The hybrid showed at par performance with Kufri Bahar in northern plains at 75 and 90 days. In central plains it showed significantly superior performance as compared to Kufri Bahar, but remained at par with Kufri Pukhraj at 75 and 90 days. In eastern plains, the hybrid remained at par with Kufri Khyati and Kufri Pukhraj. The hybrid did not show any advantage over new variety Kufri Ganga in all the regions.
