In 2000, OCD was among the top 20 causes of mental illnesses between ages 15-44
OCD fourth most common mental illness
1-2% of the world are diagnosed with it
Lower among young children
Increases during childhood and adolescence
Eating Disorders
Abnormal eating habits- insufficient or excessive food
Binge Eating Disorder (BED)
Leads to obesity
Could be genetically inherited
Symptoms
Eating more than most people
Short breaks in between eating
Worried about eating too much
Feels guilty about eating a lot
Eats until physically uncomfortable
Eats when depressed
Eats even when not famished
Eats secretly
Prevalence
1.2% of US population
More common in women than men
3.5% of women in US in contrast to 2% in men
