Bobby McFerrin Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 8 pmTickets prices $57 / $47 / $42

Bobby McFerrin was always an unlikely pop star. The 10-time Grammy winner has blurred the distinction between pop music and fine art, goofing around barefoot in the world’s finest concert halls,

Page 2: fergusoncenter.orgfergusoncenter.org/wp-content/uploads/...pricing-pres… · Web viewfergusoncenter.org

exploring uncharted vocal territory, inspiring a whole new generation of a cappella singers and the beatbox movement. His latest album, spirityouall, is a bluesy, feel-good recording, an unexpected move from the music-industry rebel who singlehandedly redefined the role of the human voice with his a cappella hit Don’t Worry, Be Happy. Beyond that he always kept people guessing, what would be next: his collaborations with Yo-Yo Ma, Chick Corea and the Vienna Philharmonic, his improvising choir Voicestra, and his legendary solo vocal performances kept people doing just that. It’s been the quietest and most polite of revolutions.

They have emerged as a phenomenon with a massive fan base, numerous national TV appearances and proven success with CD releases. Munich Symphony OrchestraThursday, November 12, 2015 at 7:30 pmTicket prices $87 / $72 / $62 / $27

Philippe Entremont, Conductor and Piano SoloistPepe Romero, Guitar Soloist The Romeros, Guitar Quartet

The Munich Symphony Orchestra (Münchner Symphoniker) was founded in 1945 as “Symphonieorchester Kurt Graunke” and — with its four subscription series in Prinzregententheater, Herkulessaal and the Philharmonie am Gasteig — is regarded as one of the high-profile ensembles of the city of Munich (of which there are four). The Orchestra performs more than 100 concerts each year throughout Europe, Asia and the United States (they last performed here in 2009). Georg Schmöhe, as chief conductor, has been credited with raising the artistic profile of the orchestra as well as the continuing enhancement of its symphonic repertoire. Philippe Entremont serves as conductor, as well as piano soloist.

The New York Times wrote: “To call Pepe Romero a superb guitarist is to understate the case … [he] is an exceptional musician, and one whose qualities would assuredly have made themselves known regardless of the instrument he had chosen for his own.”

Known to millions as “The Royal Family of the Guitar,” the Romeros were founded by the legendary Celedonio Romero with his sons Celin, Pepe and Angel in 1960. Half a century after walking onto the world stage as the first classical guitar quartet, The Romeros continue to be a veritable institution in the world of classical music.

Dave’s high-energy shows have made him synonymous with the season, with the El Paso Times saying, “Dave Koz = Christmas” and Examiner.com christening him “Santa Koz.”

The 2015 Dave Koz and Friends Christmas tour will feature Dave along with three special guests. Koz will be joined by two tour “alumni” — the irrepressible Jonathan Butler, who has earned accolades in the R&B, contemporary jazz and gospel fields, and Dutch saxophone star Candy Dulfer, who was introduced with the smash pop single “Lily Was Here” and has since released 10 studio albums and performed with such artists as Prince, Dave Stewart and Lionel Ritchie — and the legendary Bill Medley, who will be touring with Koz for the first time. Medley, who co-founded The Righteous Brothers with Bobby Hatfield, has released 14 solo albums, including the Grammy-winning Dirty Dancing. Together, the four musicians will put fresh spins on holiday classics as well as other selections that beautifully capture the spirit of the season.

http://davekoz.com/Lee Ann Womack with special guest Ruthie CollinsSaturday, December 5, 2015 at 3 pm Ticket prices $64 / $54 / $44 / $39 / $32

In a world of faster, harder, louder, country superstar Lee Ann Womack wants something far more radical: to be real. Strip it all away, get to the core of life, love and raw emotion – and you find songs that distill it all to the stopping power of a hollow point bullet. “It just seems like music, when it is most powerful, hits you right between the eyes,” says the Grammy-winning vocalist who has been singled out for “the clarity of a soul that realizes loss is a form of purification, a scraping away of false ideals and excess emotional baggage” by TIME Magazine. Hot on the heels of success of her latest album, The Way I’m Livin’, Womack, who is known for her old-fashioned themed songwriting (heartbreak, lost love…) mixed with contemporary elements (I Hope You Dance was a major crossover hit), acknowledges the frankness of her writing: “Some of these songs are hard truths, tough moments, places you’d rather not be, but you know, life takes you to those places sometimes.”

Opening the evening is Ruthie Collins, a fresh voice on the country scene whose tones harken back to Hank Senior but with a sound fresh enough to turn country music on its ear. Collins is a mix of contradictions (youthful yet experienced sound; ethereal vocals over a completely unexpected backbeat) connected in a way that makes perfect sense. The effect is stunning — nowhere more so than on her debut single Ramblin’ Man. It’s time to give her a serious listen.

Direct from Gdansk, Poland Polish Baltic Philharmonic OrchestraThursday, February 4, 2016 at 7:30 pmTicket prices $87 / $72 / $62 / $27

Ernst Van Tiel, Artistic Director and Conductor

Founded in 1945 on the heels of postwar Polish independence, The Polish Baltic Philharmonic is the largest music institution in northern Poland. As it exists and thrives today, the Philharmonic represents an amalgamation of international and historical influences (and the lofty passions that witnessed tragedy and drove revolutions) while still capturing the prideful stoicism of contemporary Poland and the larger Baltic Sea coast.

Ernst van Tiel performed just about all the important works from the symphonic repertoire, but in particular his interpretations of music from the 19th and 20th century provided him an international reputation. His activities abroad include guest conductorships among others at the orchestra of the Teatro Communale in Bologna, where he introduced works of contemporary Dutch composers, the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra with a program based on the music of Duke Ellington, the Royal Flemish Philharmonic, the National Orchestra of Belgium and several orchestras in Germany and China.
