A Brother Like That
A friend of mine named Jack got a new car from his brother as a Christmas present. On Christmas Eve Jack
came out of his office. He saw a boy was walking around his bright new car.
“Is this your car, Mister ? ” the boy asked.
Jack nodded. “My brother gave it to me for Christmas.” The boy was astounded. “You mean your brother
gave it to you and it didn’t spend you anything?...I wish…” He hesitated.
Of course Jack knew his wish. He hoped he had a brother like that. But the boy’s words jarred Jack all the
way down to his heels.
“I wish that I could be a brother like that.”
Jack looked at the boy in surprise, then he asked, “Would you like to take a ride in my car?”
“Oh yes, I’d love that.”
After a short ride, the boy said, “Mister, can you drive in front of my house?”
Jack smiled a little. He thought the boy wanted to show his neighbors that he could go back home in a big
car. But Jack was wrong again.
The boy got off the car and ran into the house quickly. A few minutes later, the boy came back. He took his
little lame brother out. He sat his brother down on the first step and pointed to the car.
“Look, Buddy, his brother gave the car to him as a Christmas present. When I grow up, I’ll give you one like
it…then you can see all the pretty things in the Christmas windows.”
Jack got out and lifted the boy to the front seat of his car. The older brother climbed in beside him and they
began a memorable holiday ride.
That Christmas Eve, Jack learned what Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give…”
1.The boy asked Jack to drive in front of his
house.
2.The boy wanted to show his neighbors that he
could go back home in a big car.
3.That Christmas Jack got two presents.
