Job Title: Water Truck Operator/Driver Department: Department of Public Works Location: Saddle Lake Public Works Reports To: Directly: Supervisor Indirectly: Director of Public Works Job Type: Job Summary: The Water Truck Driver is responsible for ensuring the delivery of water to dwelling and housing units throughout the community of Saddle Lake as well the transport of water for emergency (fire) management purposes. Keeping effective and timely delivery service schedules are key to ensuring efficient services which require non-standard hours of work including weekends. Maintaining vehicle safety and maintenance and safely operating vehicle unit is essential to the services. Competencies: Client Focus Communication Energy and Stress Team Work Quality Orientation Time Management Adaptability / Flexibility Accountability and Dependability Mechanical Operations and Repairs Equipment Usage Safety Job Duties and Responsibilities: Properly maintain water truck and equipment Deliver water as required and scheduled Follow instructions and schedules as directed Keep vehicle clean and in a sanitized condition and ensure adherence to health protocols Report condition of water cisterns and home environmental health and safety hazards Fill out daily Driver’s Vehicle Inspection Report before commencement of work Keep Daily Log on water delivered to each household Member of the Fire/Emergency Response Team Perform vehicle walkaround and inspect all equipment Ensure safety and hazard equipment is functional and stored properly Report immediately all major and minor vehicle breakdowns and mechanical failures Pre-inspect environment and surroundings prior to startup or moving vehicle Review delivery schedules and routes, information on transport and delivery as required. Responsible for basic vehicle maintenance; comply with all safe work practices, policies, and processes at all times. Emergency, Health and Safety – Responsibility and Duty of Care:

Take reasonable care of personal health and safety Avoid wearing jewelry or loose clothing if operating machinery Take reasonable care not to put other people - fellow employees and members of the

public at risk Co-operate with your supervisor/manager and get proper training as required and you

understand and follow health and safety and emergency management policies Not to interfere with or misuse anything that's been provided for your health, safety or

welfare Report any injuries, strains or illnesses you suffer as a result of doing your job, as it may

require a change the way work is performed Report to your employer if something happens that might affect your ability to work, like

becoming pregnant or suffering an injury If you drive or operate machinery, you have a responsibility to tell your employer if you

take medication that makes you drowsy Identify and report safety hazards in the work place Report issues with equipment or unsafe conditions Undertake required training in Emergency Response Plans, emergency procedures, first

aid, rescue & evacuation procedures and potential emergencies; Ensure all policies, procedures, plans and applicable legislation in emergency

health/safety are understood & followed; Ensure the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) is reviewed and understood; Understand the selection, use and maintenance of emergency equipment and supplies; and Complete all required inspections & hazard assessments.

Education and Training:

Minimum of Grade 10 Workplace Safety

Knowledge and Experience:

Previous experience with operating commercial vehicle Knowledge of community roadways and home locations Vehicle maintenance and repair

Skills and Abilities:

Able to read and write English and speak Cree Good health and vision acuity Use of specialized equipment Able to remain alert and maintain a high level of concentration Good attitude and teamwork skills Good judgement and the ability to react quickly in emergency situations Good public relations, listening and verbal skills Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly

Job Requirements

Must be in good physical condition (lift over 50 pounds) Current Driver’s Abstract – no DUI’s or driver suspensions Class 1 or Class 3 Drivers License with Airbrake Endorsement
