Parkwood Green’s value for Term 3: CARING
MORE NEWS
AND PHOTOS
FROM
…..WAKAKIRRI
2019
On Thursday the 25th of July 92 of our students performed as part of this year's Wakakirri story dance competition. Students have been rehearsing since the beginning of Term 2, where they learnt characteri-sation skills, complex choreography and canons, whilst working with students from a range of year levels. On the day, our students had a tech run where they had the opportunity to rehearse in costume, on the stage and in front of our judging panel Kristin Agnoli.
After numerous hours of our wonderful staff face painting students and touching up hair, our students got to strut down the read carpet where we found out that Parkwood Green would perform first! Among the 5 schools we were lucky enough to win awards for 'Best Backstage Crew', 'Best Hair and Makeup' and "Best use of minimal props and Costumes'. We look forward to hearing the outcome if we will progress to the Awards night, where we find out who will be crowned story of the year! Congratulations to all staff and students involved, what an incredible performance.

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE:
Dear Students, Parents Guardians and Carer’s in the
Community of Parkwood Green PS.
We really have been in the grip of winter over the past
weeks. This has led to a number of coughs and colds with
our students and families. I encourage you to remind your
child/ren of a number of strategies that can protect them
from illness whilst at school. These are:
Washing of hands after a trip to the toilet. There is
soap in all toilets and hand dryers. We constantly
check our toilets for cleanliness especially for our
male students.
Keep hydrated. Drink your water.
Take off the spray jacket inside the classroom and
put back on to go outside. This action keeps the
body as a constant temperature.
Take off the spray jacket when you have warmed up
in a game and let your natural cooling method work.
So many children come to the Health Centre com-
plaining of illness with a red face and a very sweaty
body under the spray jacket.
When sneezing sneeze into your elbow.
Our classrooms are heated to 21 or 22 degrees C.
Children take their bomber jackets off inside, and
then go outside without them! Please remind chil-
dren that when outside they need their external
garments.
Parent Survey for 2019: Currently some parents have
been selected, to complete the Department of Education
Survey. I have noticed that some of the Privilege sheets are
returning which is great. This year the survey is online so
you can use your child’s mobile devise if necessary. Our
thanks for your time. In September, our Whole School
Evaluation Survey will be available for ALL parent. The
Survey enables all parents to have input into the school and
the programs. Again, this year it will be ONLINE with a link
being sent via COMPASS. We use the information from the
survey to guide our Program Budget development for 2020
and for fine-tuning our programs. We consider your input
important, so why not share your positive thoughts when
the opportunity arises. Not all schools value parent contri-
bution, but here at Parkwood Green we certainly do, and
open ourselves up to your knowledge of us, and I guess
equally to your misconceptions.
Our Whole School Study: For Term 3 our Whole
School Study is Aboriginal Culture. All classes will be
exploring different elements. We are planning to develop
some artworks for the school grounds, and an Indigenous
Garden with the help of all students. Students in Year 4 are
exploring the plants native to our local area, so that these
can be included in the garden. All other year levels are
involved as part of their Inquiry Unit. If any parents would
like to donate plants, or assist in anyway please contact
Silvio via the General Office. All assistance welcome.
Well enough from me. Until we meet in person.
David Allibon,
Acting Principal.
