We apply the principles of our Code of Conduct at each of our facilities and offices, including third-party contractors. Our labour compliance programme has been accredited by the Fair Labour Association (FLA) and all of our mature sewing facilities are WRAP (Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production) certified. In addition, our employees receive valuable competitive benefits, such as 24-hour access to Gildan medical clinics, free transportation to and from work, subsidized meals, and access to financial aid programmes.

ENVIRONMENTWe continuously seek ways to reduce our overall environmental footprint. For instance, in Honduras and the Dominican Republic, our biological wastewater treatment system, Biotop, treats our wastewater using micro-organisms, gravity and sunlight. In 2012, 36% of Gildan’s total energy consumption was powered from biomass, a renewable source of energy. Also in 2012, we recycled 87% of our total waste.

COMMUNITYGildan is a force for social development in the communities where we operate, investing in education, literacy, humanitarian aid and professional development initiatives. As an example, to date, we have invested over 1.5 million USD in the Instituto Politécnico Centroamericano, a Honduran technical institute that trains local residents in the apparel, textile and electromechanical fields. We also provide financial support to local schools for kids, medical care to our employees and their families, and contribute to community development through manufacturing infrastructure investments and long-term commitments.
