Day 1: Wed, Oct 28 – HONOLULU. Depart Honolulu.

Day 2: Thur, Oct 29 – CHITOSE. Arrive in Chitose. After entry formalities, walk to your hotel located within the airport terminal. A bento dinner will be provided at the hotel. AIR TERMINAL HOTEL (1 Night) (D)

Day 3: Fri, Oct 30 – CHITOSE – LAKE SHIKOTSU – NOBORIBETSU. After breakfast we head out for a full day of sightseeing. Lake Shikotsu is located in southwestern Hokkaido, west of the city of Chitose. It is a crater lake that was formed over 40,000 years ago by volcanic activity, and it has a maximum depth of 363 meters, making it the second deepest lake in Japan. For lunch, pick out “LIVE” crabs* from the tanks! Your choice of King Crab, Hairy Crab and Hanasaki Crab! While you enjoy a special Salmon Teppanyaki, the kitchen will expertly prepare the crabs for everyone to share! A gourmet’s delight! After lunch, we continue our journey to the Shiraoi Ainu Museum, an outdoor reproduction of an Ainu Village, where you will see a traditional Ainu song and dance performance. Enjoy an “All You Can Eat” crab dinner buffet at the hotel. Don’t forget to try out the onsens (before or after dinner). The onsens – which are divided for men and women – allow you to enjoy the hot springs whether indoors or outdoors. Day 4: Sat, Oct 31 – NOBORIBETSU – SAPPORO. Before departing Noboribetsu, visit Jigokudani or “Hell Valley,” a spectacular, appropriately named valley just above the town of Noboribetsu, which displays hot steam vents, sulfurous streams and other volcanic activity. It is a main source of Noboribetsu’s hot spring waters. Stop of lunch enroute to Sapporo. After lunch, view the spectacular sights from the top of Mount Okura via the Okurayama Observatory Chair Lift. Then visit Shiroi Koibito Park for a factory tour to see how Hokkaido’s leading confectionery “Shiroi Koibito” is made. Take a tour of Odori Park before transferring to the hotel for the evening. Day 5: Sun, Nov 01 – SAPPORO. Full Day at Leisure. Looking for more shopping opportunities? Check out the Tanuki Koji Shopping Arcade, the largest and oldest shopping arcade in Sapporo, which houses over 200 shops. Or the Susukino shopping area or 5 story tall Daiso store. (B)

Day 6: Mon, Nov 02 – SAPPORO – OTARU – OVERNIGHT ON FERRY. Depart Sapporo for Otaru. Before arriving in Otaru, stop at the Yoichi Nikka Whiskey Yoichi Distillery. The company was founded by Taketsuru Masataka, known as the father of Japanese whisky, who studied whisky making techniques for several years in Scotland before bringing the trade to Japan. The Yoichi Distillery was built in 1934, on a site chosen for its clear water, brisk air and rich peat. Taketsuru believed that the conditions in Yoichi best resembled those found in Scotland and would be perfect for recreating Scotch whisky. The traditional distillation process that he brought over is largely unchanged today. Nikka whiskies have been recognized to rank among the world's best single malt whiskies and have won numerous awards. After a tour of the facilities, you’ll be able to try some of their tasty products. Otaru, which served as a major trade and fishing port in the 1800s. During the heyday of herring fishing, large Herring Mansions (Nishin Goten) were built by wealthy fishermen. Tour the Aoyama Old Villa, a beautifully restored example of a Herring Mansion. Then take a sightseeing tour of Otaru, including strolling along the Otaru Canal and touring the Music Box Museum. Transfer to the port of Otaru to embark the ferry to Niigata. Enjoy dinner onboard the ferry and the numerous amenities (additional costs may apply), including open air bath, sauna, game room, sports room, and karaoke room, on your overnight ferry cruise to Niigata. SHIN NIHONKAI FERRY (1 Night) (B, D)

Day 7: Tue, Nov 03 – OVERNIGHT FERRY – NIIGATA. Arrive in Niigata and disembark the overnight ferry. Have fun shopping at the TSUBAMESANJO Regional Industries Promotion Center – an 800 square meter space that showcases the metalware the area is known for. Besides cutlery, knives, kitchen tools, pots, pans, scissors, carpentry tools, etc, you’ll also find many local specialties, including Koshihikari rice, local sake, and confections from Echigo. These items make great souvenirs and gifts. Next, take a tour of the Tojiro Knife Factory. For lunch (on your own) stop at the Teradomari Fish Market. Fresh fish straight from the local Teradomari Bay and Izumozaki Bay, famous for the quality of their fish, can be purchased at reasonable prices here. Enjoy lunch (on own) here. Try the famous hamayaki (fresh seafood grilled at the beach), crab dishes and kaisen don (sashimi on rice). After lunch, enjoy the fall foliage at Yahiko Shrine and Yahiko Park. Take it all in from the amazing vantage point of the Yahiko Ropeway. Enjoy dinner at the hotel. HOTEL OOHASHI YAKATANOYU (1 Night) (B, D)

Day 8: Wed, Nov 04 – NIIGATA. Start the day with a visit to the Shirone Kite Museum. During your tour of the museum, you’ll also have the chance to make your own kite. Next stop at the Shirone Grape Garden and pick some grapes. Then take a tour of the Niigata Furusato Village, where there are shops selling Niigata specialties, restaurants serving local cuisine, a Niigata sightseeing information area and a corner providing Niigata historical and cultural information to visitors. Enjoy lunch onboard the Shinano River Water Shuttle and a leisure river cruise. Explore Pier Bandai, one of the largest fresh food markets on the coast of the Sea of Japan. At Pier Bandai, visitors can browse a wide range of Niigata’s brands of rice,

sake, fish, meat, vegetables and fruits, as well as coffee and sweets. Transfer to the hotel. For those that wish to “Get the lay of the land” with views across the city and mountains beyond, the local guide will take you to the Befco Bakauke Observatory Room, where you enjoy panoramic vistas of the surrounding area. Enjoy shabu shabu at a local restaurant this evening. HOTEL OKURA NIIGATA (2 Nights) (B, L, D)

Day 9: Thur, Nov 05 – NIIGATA. Start the day by learning how to make senbei (rice cracker). Then tour the Northern Cultural Museum, which originally serving as a mansion of Ito Bunkichi, who lived in the Edo Period (1603–1868) and was one of the greatest landowners in Japan. Nowadays, the museum houses calligraphy and ceramics, lacquer ware and documents related to Ito's family history. Don’t forget to view the beautiful garden with its large pond. While there, learn how to chinkin (gold inlaid lacquerware) along with a special “Hagama” lunch. After lunch, tour the Imayotsukasa Sake Brewery and sample some of their tasty products. In the afternoon, tour the Minemura Miso Factory. This evening, you’re in for another special treat!! Along with dinner, we are entertained by an authentic Geiko. Dancing, singing and playing fun games. (B, L, D)

Day 10: Fri, Nov 06 – NIIGATA – TOKYO. The rice that is grown and produced in Niigata is said to be the best rice in Japan. It comes as no surprise then, that Niigata is also quite famous for its sweet rice dumplings. Known locally as Sasadango, which translates to “Bamboo leaf dumpling”, these much loved rice dumplings are made from stick rice and red bean based, wrapped up in 3 bamboo leaves and steamed for up to 15 minutes before being served hot and sticky. Learn to how make these tasty treats. Then tour the Niigata Saito Villa. Built by a wealthy merchant, Saito Kijuro, in 1918, the villa was carefully constructed to provide the best view of the Japanese garden. Transfer to the Niigata Station. Visit the Ponshukan, where you can taste and compare some of the sake from the 90+ breweries within the prefecture. There will be time of shopping as well before taking the JR Super Express Train to Tokyo. Upon arrival in Tokyo, transfer to the hotel. The remainder of the day is at your leisure. Day 11: Sat, Nov 07 – TOKYO. Day at leisure. Enjoy shopping and dining in the bustling Shinjuku area. (B)

Day 12: Sun, Nov 08 – TOKYO – HONOLULU. After breakfast, visit Tokyo Skytree for a view of the surrounding city. At just over 2,000 feet tall, it is the tallest tower in Tokyo. Rising 350 meters above the ground, the Tokyo Skytree Tembo Deck offers a 360 degree panoramic view of Tokyo. Next, enjoy time for shopping and lunch (on your own) at the nearby Solamachi area. After lunch, visit Asakusa, the center of Tokyo’s shitamachi (literally “low city”), one of Tokyo’s districts, where an atmosphere of the Tokyo of past decades survives. Asakusa’s main attraction is Sensoji, a very popular Buddhist temple built in the 7th century. The temple is approached via the Nakamise, a shopping street that has been providing temple visitors with a variety of traditional local snacks and tourist souvenirs for centuries. Finally spend some time in Ameyoko, a busy market street along the Yamanote Line tracks between Okachimachi and Ueno Stations before heading to the airport. Depart Tokyo and arrive Honolulu the same day. Aloha and Welcome Home! (B)
