Letter of intent

I am a second generation fine woodworker. My occupation is the general manager of Georgia Hardwoods Inc. in Buford

where I manage their inventory and their custom moldings and cabinet door shop. My hobby and passion are furniture

and turned art pieces which I build during my spare time in my backyard building. I have been a serious woodworker

over 35 years. I have made several pieces for our church including the pulpit, communion table and custom desks for all

three of the pastors. My home, my parents' home and many of my friends' homes are full of my pieces. It was also my

privilege to offer my hobby shop to help many cub scouts build their pinewood derby cars and to help six different Boy

Scouts from our troop complete their service projects required to earn the rank of Eagle.

We were thrilled for the recent opportunity to buy this home from our long-time family friends Gary and Debra Clark

who built the house and made many improvements over the years including the building in the back yard that I now use

for storage and hobby shop. We plan to live here for the rest of our lives. The building includes a garage area currently

used to store the mower, lawn care tools and some hardwood lumber. In the last year both our kids have started driving

and now we are a four-car family with only a two-car garage. I would like to add a 24' storage space to the back of the

existing building to free up space in the garage area to park cars.

My hobby shop is not a production shop. I build one of a kind custom pieces (see attached pictures). This building is

used for storage and my hobby shop. I have a full- time job outside of my home. I do not make a living out of my home

shop. It is a place for creative outlet and building custom furniture is a source of personal fulfillment and relaxation.

There is no additional traffic coming to and from my home related to my woodworking. Although I spend a lot of my

free time in the shop (contrary to what my wife may think) it is not a living space. With the existing landscaping, trees

and bushes along the back and sides of my property, the current building is not visible from the front of my property and

only partially visible from Wallace Road in the rear. Once completed I will be happy to plant any additional matching

bushes along my property line to block the portion that is still visible from Wallace road or my neighbors bordering the

back of my property. The current building is constructed with the same matching siding as my home and looks just like

my house. The added space would be a seamless addition matching the siding and roofline. I have already spoken to all

my bordering neighbors about the proposed new space and they have no objections.

My lot parcel# is 7180-070 and it is .82 acres. Zoning classification is R100.

The proposed additional space is to add 24' x 24' to the back of my building (see site plan drawings). It will be a

seamless extension of the existing building. The building is one story measuring 16' -1011 to the top of the roof.

There are some other already existing improvements to the property that need to be permitted as well. The free­

standing gazebo was built but not permitted and the garage I hobby shop building is now one building but was originally

two separate buildings built 4' apart at its closest point. They were both permitted but the portion that now connects

the two building was not permitted.
