GUAYANA The vast wildernesses of Guayana are Venezuela’s dazzling trump card – a spectacularly beautiful natural wonderland of steamy rainforest, rolling highland savanna and soaring table mountains, or tepuis. It’s also home to many of Venezuela’s greatest outdoor attrac- tions, including the world’s highest waterfall, Angel Falls. No trip to Venezuela is complete without coming here. Guayana extends throughout the whole of Venezuela’s southeast, encompassing the states of Delta Amacuro, Bolívar and Amazonas. While it comprises half of the country’s land, it is home to just 6% of Venezuela’s population. A majority of the country’s indigenous peoples live and thrive here, including the Warao, Pemón, Yekuana and Yanomami. The sheer natural beauty of this region is hard to overstate. A twenty-minute Cessna flight over the Parque Nacional Canaima will have your jaw dropping, while the trek to the ethereal top of Roraima, the most extraordinary of the tepuis, will stay with you forever. The waterfalls of the Gran Sabana, the exotic animals of the Delta del Orinoco and the pristine wilderness and traditional indigenous settlements of Amazonas are all further reasons to make the effort to come here.
