2. In-preparation for PSLE: Starting Revision Early & Managing Stress

It is very common for Marists to experience anxiety and stress in Primary 6 due to an increased amount of schoolwork, assessments and the upcoming PSLE. Teachers and parents can play our part to alleviate this stress and better support our P6 Marists.

These are some strategies you can share with your child/ ward to start his revision early and manage stress:

Set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic & Timely) goals

Experiment with alternative revision techniques to develop joy of learning

Clarify understanding about schoolwork or lessons regularly with teachers

Plan regular scheduled revision sessions of 45 min to 1 hour with short breaks in between.

Maintain a healthy lifestyle to stay focused during lessons in class (i.e. enough exercise and outdoor playtime, healthy diet, adequate sleep)

It is important to note that your child/ ward may exhibit a different behaviour during the course of this year. He may get more emotional and frustrated easily. During this period, your child needs a lot of encouragement to help him to overcome the challenges. It is important that your child/ ward does not keep any problems to himself. He can always approach his teachers or our counsellor, Mrs Raj, for help. You may contact her at [email protected].

3. P6 Parents’ Briefing

There will be a parents’ briefing regarding PSLE and Sec 1 Posting matters. Details of the briefing are as follows:

Time: 2.30 p.m. to 4.45 p.m.

6. School Handphone Policy (Applicable to all other smart devices) Handphones may be brought to school for the sole purpose of contacting parents or guardians. They are not to be used for recreational and recording purposes at any time. Handphones have to be switched off and kept in lockers at all times. Handphones may only be used after school hours at the MRT gate or outside the General Office.

7. MACHO

During orientation week, your child’s/ward’s Form Teachers introduced the acronym “MACHO”. It is introduced to set the expectations of how our Marists should behave in a classroom setting.

The acronym stands for:

M - Materials Pack school bag according to the timetable

Take out necessary materials required while waiting for the next teacher to enter

A - Attire Wear the right uniform according to the timetable

Wear school tie on Mondays if there is no PE/ PAL lessons

Tuck in shirt/ T-shirt at all times

Wear only white shoes and socks

Have short and clean nails

Have short and tidy hair

C - Cleanliness Keep personal table, locker and classroom clean and organised

Keep common areas of the school (toilets, school hall, canteen, etc.) clean

H - Homework Record homework in Marist Buddy

Complete homework to the best of one’s ability

Submit homework on time

Revise if there is no homework assigned for the day

O - On-task Be present

Practise active listening

Participate appropriately

In doing so, we would like our students to be more responsible both in their actions and choice of words. Let us also encourage our Marists to take charge of their own learning by finishing their homework on their own, getting them to pack their own schoolbags and encouraging them to help out in home chores.

8. Sharing of Class Photos

During the academic year, teachers may be taking photographs of the students and sharing them with you. If you do not wish for your child’s/ ward’s photographs to be shared, please inform his Form Teacher immediately. In view of the Personal Data Protection Act, please do not share these photos on public platforms as we wish to protect the identities of our students.
