Section .1. That the sum of Two Million Two Hundred Thirty One Thousand NineHundred Six Dollars ($2,231,906) is appropriated as a supplemental grant award from the AlaskaDepartment of Education & Early Development to the State Categorical Grants Fund (231), Departmentof Health & Human Services, for the Day Care Assistance Program.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval bythe Anchorage Municipal Assembly.

Assistance Program

I The Department of Health and Human Services has received a supplemental grant award from theAlaska Department of Education & Early Development in the amount of Two Million, Two HundredThirty One Thousand, Nine Hundred Six Dollars, ($2,231,906) bringing the total grant award to$14,405,668. The period of the grant remains July 1,2001 to June 30, 2002.
Under the tenns of the grant the Municipal Department of Health and Human Services will providechild care subsidies for low to moderate income residents of the Municipality who are employedand/or participating in a training or educational program. Subsidies are determined from a familyi income based on a sliding fee schedule established by the State of Alaska. Subsidies are paid onoehalf of eligible families to State or Municipal licensed agencies, federally approved facilities and
authorized day care providers.
Parents who become ineligible for Alaska Temporary Assistance Program benefits because they arenow working receive fIrst priority for service. Eligibility requirements are outlined by the AlaskaDeparbnent of Education & Early Development while the Municipal Day Care Assistance Programdetermines the level of assistance and processes the payment. All programs require some level of
I nnancial contribution by the parent or guardian. Total participants average 1,780 families per monthwhile an average of 3,000 children are served.
Municipal Day Care Assistance Program staff determine eligibility, process payments and maintainprogram files on over 830 child care providers participating in the program. Other services provided:>y staff include: child and family case management; counseling; infonnation and referral; assistanceto providers and potential providers and collecting/reporting program statistical data to the grantor.
