Ha-vah, ha-vah na-shir-ah
Shir ha-le-lu-yah!
Shir ha-le-lu-yah!
Let us sing a song of praise. Hallelujah!

Shamor v'zachor b'dibur echad,
hishmianu El ham'yuchad,
Adonai echad ush'mo echad,
l'shem ul'tiferet v'lit'hilah.
“Keep” and “remember”: one command the One God caused us to hear;
Adonai is One, God's Name is One; glory and praise are God's.
L'chah dodi likrat kalah,
p'nei Shabbat n'kab'lah.
Beloved, come to meet the bride; beloved come to greet Shabbat.
L'chah….
Hitor'ri, hitor'ri,
ki va oreich, kumi ori,
uri uri, shir daberi,
k'vod Adonai alayich niglah.
Awake, awake, your light has come! Arise, shine, awake and sing:
the Eternal's glory dawns upon you.
L'chah dodi likrat kalah,
p'nei Shabbat n'kab'lah.
Bo-i v'shalom ateret ba'lah,
gam b'simchah uv'tzoholah,
toch emunei am s'gulah,
bo-i chalah, bo-i chalah.
Enter in peace, O crown of your husband; enter in gladness, enter
in joy. Come to the people that keeps its faith. Enter, O bride!
Enter, O bride!
L'chah dodi likrat kalah,
p'nei Shabbat n'kab'lah.
As these Shabbat candles give light to all who
behold them, so may we, by our lives, give light
to all who behold us.
As their brightness reminds us of the
generations of Israel who have kindled light,
so may we, in our own day, be among those who kindle light.
Blessed are You, Adonai our God, Sovereign of the
universe, who hallows us with mitzvot, commanding us to
kindle the light of Shabbat.

The Heaven and the Earth were finished, and all their array.
On the seventh day God finished the work that God had been
doing, and God ceased on the seventh day from all the work
that God had done. And God blessed the seventh day and
declared it holy, because on it God ceased from all the work of
creation that God had done.

I begin with a prayer of gratitude for all that is good in
my life. God needs no words, no English or Hebrew,
no semantics and no services.
But I need them. Through prayer, I can sense
my inner strength, my inner purpose,
my inner joy, my capacity to love.
Bar'chu et Adonai ham'vorach!
Praise Adonai to whom praise is due!
Praised be Adonai to whom praise is due, now and
forever!
Baruch Adonai ham'vorach

Baruch atah, Adonai, hamaariv aravim.
One must repeat from time to time: The world was created for
my sake. Never say: What do I care about this or that? Do
your part to add something new, to bring forth something that
is needed, and to leave the world a little better because you
were here briefly. [Rabbi Nachman of Bratzlav]

For Judaism gave mankind its first civil rights program. It was
expressed in the Sh'ma, the watchword of the Jewish faith:
"Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One." As God is
one, mankind is one, for each is created equally in the image
of God.

This is our truth: the One God calls forth being from
nothingness, and makes all things one.
Blessed is the Holy One of Israel,
in whose Oneness we are one.
But we are not yet one: our human race is broken into
fragments, and we wait to be redeemed into a lasting unity.
Blessed is the time to come, when all will at last be one.
While hatred rules the earth, redemption will not come.
Let the day be near when love will rule this world. Until people
return from their exile from each other, redemption will not
come.
Let all exile be ended: our exile from one another, the exile of
God's presence from our lives.
Until we restore the lawless to their true selves and rekindle in
them the spark of God, redemption will not come.
Let us also search out the flaws in our own souls, and struggle
to remove them.
While we care only for ourselves, redemption will not come.
Let our hearts be moved by the misery of others and dare
what must be dared.
Who is like You, Adonai, among the gods that are worshipped? Who is
like You, majestic in holiness, awesome in splendor, working wonders?

A young soldier sought out the base chaplain, but the
soldier was Catholic and the chaplain was Jewish. The
soldier, somewhat anxious and apprehensive, said,
“Father (it happens), I appreciate your seeing me but I
want you to understand that I’m a Catholic. I hope you
won’t try to change my religion.” With a gentle smile, the
rabbi replied, “My son, I don’t want to change your
religion. I want your religion to change you.”
When we stand for the Amidah, we must remember that
religious living is not about asking God for what we
want but about listening for what God wants from us. To
hear God’s voice amid the clamor of everyday life, a
voice guiding us to the holiness that is in life this is our
challenge. And this is where we take our stand.

True, we are often too weak to stop injustices; but the least we
can do is protest against them.
True, we are too poor to eliminate hunger; but in feeding one
child, we protest against hunger.
True, we are too timid and powerless to take on all the guards of
all the political prisons in the world; but in offering our solidarity
to one prisoner, we denounce all the tormentors.
True, we are powerless against death; but as long as we help
one man, one woman, one child live one hour longer in safety
and dignity, we affirm a human's right to live. [ELIE WIESEL]

Days pass and the years vanish, and we walk sightless among
miracles. God, fill our eyes with seeing and our minds with
knowing; let there be moments when Your Presence, like
lightning, illumines the darkness in which we walk. Help us to
see, wherever we gaze, that the bush burns unconsumed.
And we, clay touched by God, will reach out for holiness, and
exclaim in wonder: How filled with awe is this place, and we did
not know it! Blessed is the Eternal One, the Holy God!

We cannot merely pray to You, O God, to end war, for we
know that You have made the world in a way so that all of
us must find our own path to peace, within ourselves and
with our neighbors.
We cannot merely pray to You, O God, to end starvation,
for You have already given us the resources with which to
feed the entire world, if we would only use them wisely.
We cannot merely pray to You, O God, to root out our
prejudice for You have already given us eyes with which to
see the good in all people, if we would only use them
rightly.
We cannot merely pray to You, O God, to end despair, for
you have already given us the power to clear away slums
and to give hope, if we would only use our power justly.
We cannot merely pray to You, O God, to end disease, for
You have already given us great minds with which to
search for cures and healing, if we could only use them
constructively.
Therefore, we pray to You instead, O God, for strength,
determination, and courage, to do instead of just pray, to
become instead of merely to wish.
Praised are You, O God, who blesses our people Israel,
and all peoples with peace.
May the One who makes peace in heaven make peace for us, for all

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the
true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident,
that all men are created equal."
I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of
former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit
down together at the table of brotherhood.
I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state
sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of
oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation
where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the
content of their character.
I have a dream today!

our own loved ones, those whom our friends and
