Dear Little Chapel Family, I want to use my space this month to say "thank you.” I hope that in the next few paragraphs I don't leave anyone or any group out, but if I do, just remember no matter what I might forget, God knows what you did and that's all that counts. Also, my "thank you's" are not in any order of importance. Everyone mentioned is just as important as anyone else. And all that happened this season could not have happened without YOU. There are so many people to thank for all that took place during the Lenten, Holy Week and Easter season. Thank you to everyone who provided flowers for our sanctuary during the past 5 weeks. Each Sunday they graced our sanctuary and made it very special. To Janice Allen, who made sure the flowers were not only in place on Sunday, but then came in every Monday to break down the arrangements, so they could be taken to the hospital or retirement homes or shut ins, a big thank you! Ushers were needed for this past month and Terry and Harry Patterson, made sure all of our services were covered. To Jean Schild who ushered for us on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday of Holy Week, thank you. Palm Sunday, though plans had to be changed because of weather, was a joyous way to begin Holy Week. All of you who joined us in the fellowship hall and processed with us into the sanctuary...thank you! It was a good warm-up for next year as we hopefully, will process from Banks Channel into the sanctuary. Thank you to our Children's Choir for singing that morning, and for all the parents who made sure their children were here on time. Our Maundy Thursday service was a very meaningful time. I want to thank my wife Marcia, for being a reader along with me, and especially thanks to our Chancel Choir who gave the night special meaning because of the music. Thanks to Tim Karp for being in the sound room, not just on Thursday night making sure the effects of the lights as they were dimmed helped with the mood of the service, but for his being there every Sunday, making sure you can hear all that is taking place. All during Lent, Holy Week and especially Easter Sunday the music added so very much to our worship experience. Not only did David Heinzman guide both the Handbell Choir and the Chanel Choir, but he played for every service throughout the season and his organ meditations, throughout Holy Week, added so much to each service. For our Good Friday service it was David's idea to have the Passion of Christ according to John chanted by Angela Daughtry, Carolyn Wetherington and Robin Wetherington. Their chanting of the Gospel was a very meaningful experience. It was something I had never experienced before and it made the Gospel come alive to me in a way it had not in the past. Also, a thank you to Tom Solley who shared his musical talents with us a number of times during this season, playing clarinet, bells and singing. I want to especially thank the church staff of Little Chapel. I have had the opportunity to work with a number of staffs over my years of ministry, but I have never been a part of one that is as good a team as this group of people are. They all performed admirably 910.256.2819 APRIL 2016 www.liƩlechapel.org 2 West FayeƩeville Street Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480 NEWSLETTER (Continued on page 2)

Dear Little Chapel Family,

during the season, all of them pulling together doing whatever was asked of them, and doing it all with smiles on their faces. There was Dan Holt who probably moved more chairs and cleaned more floors over the past month than he ever has done in

his life. And a big thanks to Mary Brooks and to Emily Donovan for their preparation and work for the Community Easter Egg Hunt. Though a few people "guesstimated" there were close to 80 children, I would have said more like 200...they were so full of energy and fun. Special thanks to Sue and Zoe Laackmann who made the puppets "work" at the Easter Egg Hunt and for Judy Gibson in writing the script and making sure it was all ready to go. Carole Coble and a number of other folks made the Easter Egg Hunt a fun morning. Chris and Katie Alexander brought some of their farm animals for the children to pet, and I heard a number of times, little ones asking their parents if they could get a bunny or a chicken. Special thanks to Chris and Katie for supplying the animals for our little "petting zoo." A great big "Thank You" to our office Administrator, Martha Parker. In addition to her normal tasks, and dealing with constant interruptions, she had to in a weeks time compile, edit and print 8 different bulletins for our worship services. And it all culminated on Easter Sunday! What a wonderful celebration we experienced. For me it began around 5:30 with our community Sunrise service and it began even earlier than that for two of our members, Bill Miller and John Moore. They were out at access #19 before 5:30AM as they were responsible for putting up the sound equipment and getting our keyboard out there for the community service. It was greatly appreciated by the some 1000 people in attendance. They would not have heard the wonderful sermon by Doug Lain, the pastor of Wrightsville Beach Methodist without our sound system. Our service at 10:30AM was a magnificent way to worship our Risen Lord. The Bell Choir helped set the tone with their ringing and the processing in of the Chancel Choir. To both our choirs, who added to the Palm Sunday service, Maundy Thursday Service and to the Easter service...THANK YOU!

Well, I could go on, but I am guessing you are getting tired of reading all this. Just let me say one more time, I feel so very blessed to be your pastor. Little Chapel on the Boardwalk is a wonderful congregation! Thank you for being the Body Of Christ in our community.

Blessings, Pastor Pat

THANK YOU LITTLE CHAPEL My family and I (Kitty, Dave, Sr., Ted and Michelle) want to express our deep and sincere thanks to all the LCOB members who have visited, prayed, brought food and sent cards during my mom Kitty’s recent illness and surgery. The generous love and kindnesses shown to us is truly a reflection of God’s care demonstrated time and time again by this congregation. Special thanks to Pastor Pat and Marcia for their hospital visits with prayer.

We love you! David, Jr.

CHILDREN’S MISSIONS A big thank you to all who donated diapers during our children’s Lenten Diaper Drive. We are happy to re-port that we collected 1,588 diapers that will be donat-ed to the North Carolina Diaper Bank Lower Cape Fear Chapter. Our next mission project will be to re-new our efforts with Priscilla the pig!

EASTER EGG HUNT Thank you to all the volunteers who donated candy, stuffed plastic eggs and gave of their time and talent the day of the event to make this year’s Community Easter Egg Hunt a great time for kids of all ages!

MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE All children are invited to join us in the Choir Room each Sunday at 9:15AM to make a joyful noise unto the Lord. We are now learning the Gloria Patri and prepar-ing for our Youth and Children’s Worship Service in May. Special thanks to Jean Schild and David Heinz-man for sharing their talents with the Children of Little Chapel!

SUNDAY SCHOOL The children will begin studying from the book of Ex-odus during Sunday School in April. As we study we will be assembling a full color cardboard model of the Jewish Tabernacle. The model includes the Altar of Burnt Offering, The Ark of the Covenant, The Golden Lampstand, The Basin and more. The model is de-signed in light of the most recent archaeological evi-dence, is easy to construct and will provide an excellent visual aid to our Exodus studies. All children are en-couraged to join us weekly at 9:30AM in the Sunday School room.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL SAVE THE DATES!

Our theme will be Bible Stories by the Sea and we will use the beach as an integral part of the pro-gram. More details to come. Many hands are needed! Please email Mary Brooks, [email protected] if you would like to volunteer.

Our youth will tour the First Fruits Ministry location, learn about how this ministry serves the community, help with load-ing their bus, and then set up and serve a hot meal in the parking lot of St. Paul's Lutheran church.

LITTLE CHAPEL PRESCHOOL

The school year will be ending in a few months but it’s not too early now to start thinking and planning the 2016-2017 school year for your preschool children. Little Chapel on the Boardwalk offers a Christian based Preschool program that focuses on age appro-priate activities designed to target all aspects of early childhood development. Classroom materials assist with a child’s development, concentration, coordina-tion, and fine motor skills to prepare them for kinder-garten and more advanced activities in the classroom and beyond. The Little Chapel Preschool year runs concurrently with the New Hanover County school schedule. Little Chapel Preschool students gain an early enthusi-asm for learning when introduced to daily fun-filled lessons and activities that incorporate structure and freedom. Applications are now being accepted for the morning half-day program for children ages 3 – 4 with the option for attending either 3 or 5 days a week. For more information about the Little Chapel on the Boardwalk Preschool, please call Angela McConnell, Director, at (910) 256-2819 ext. 104 or email [email protected].

Our church, along with the two other beach churches, has permission from the town to con-tinue our practice of opening the parking lot to beach goers for the three major summer holi-days.

We were happy to welcome seven new members into our fellowship on February 28, 2016.

There is a new bulletin board in the fellowship hall for our JOY group. Be sure to check out all the new activities! This new program has been enthusiastically received by the congregation and many activities are being planned.

The Personnel Committee is planning a Staff Ap-preciation Day on April 24, 2016. Details will fol-low!

The Property Committee has been busy with many projects, including power washing of the entire church, Matthew House and manse, new flooring in the corridors near the children's chapel and choir room, plans for exterior painting, updat-ing the parlor and main ladies room, refurbishing the pews in the sanctuary, and repairing windows in the music room, due to leaks. Thanks to this hard-working committee!!

The Wrightsville Beach Foundation has donated $2,000.00 to our weekend Meals on Wheels pro-gram. This donation is greatly appreciated!!

Children's Hope Alliance and Elderhaus. Children's Hope Alliance is the combination of Barium Springs and Grandfather Home for Children joining forces to serve children and families throughout NC. They work hard to provide a safe, healing journey for hurting children and families, creating hope now and in the future. Their comprehensive services and programs are designed to give hope to their clients by providing a safe home, healing their hurt and encouraging a healthy start. Much like a cocoon is the place where a miracu-lous transformation takes place, Children's Home Alli-ance is a place that God uses to heal children and fami-lies. Elderhaus of Wilmington provides care for their elderly clients; so they can remain at home as long as possible and prevent hospitalizations and staying in nursing homes. This is accomplished with their PACE PRO-GRAM (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly), Adult Day Services and Home Care Services. Mother's Day is such an appropriate time to remember our chil-dren and our elderly.

The Little Chapel Boardwalkers invite you to lace up your walking shoes and join us Saturday, April 30th to participate in the 2016 Wilmington Walk MS. There are also many opportunities to volunteer for those who pre-fer to work rather than walk! Why We Walk for MS The Little Chapel Boardwalkers team was created in 2007 after our 4th church member was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Ending multiple sclerosis for good will take all of us and that is why Walk MS matters so much and it’s also why you matter so much. Together, with every step we take, every dollar we raise…we’re that much closer….closer to the time when no one will have to hear the words “You have MS”. Together we can change the world for everyone affected by MS. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society uses funds col-lected from the Walk to support research for a cure, ad-vocacy efforts, and to provide programs and services which address the needs of people living with MS today. A diagnosis of MS is pretty scary and having multiple sclerosis means that you may not be able to walk when you wake up. Or that you may suddenly have impaired vision. Or that your memory will fail you for no appar-ent reason. The symptoms of MS are different, and can be devastating, for everyone - the only certainty is that it will affect yet another person every hour of every day. We are fighting this disease so that we may one day cre-ate a world free of MS. If you would like to join the Little Chapel Boardwalkers, you can sign up in the Narthex, contact Barbara Tyndall at 910-392-7883, or you can register for our team on line at Walk MS 2016: Wilmington.

Dear Little Chapel Church Family, I would like to thank you for all of the love and kind-ness you have shown me during my recent illness. You have no idea how much all of the cards, calls, emails and most importantly your prayers have meant. I am doing better but it is going to take some time to com-pletely recuperate. Thank you,

Reuben

Dear Visitation Volunteers, I am writing to thank you for visiting my Mom Chris Cox at Brunswick Cove Living Center and for taking her flowers and the lovely knitted throw. In case you hadn’t known her when she was able to be an active member, I’ll share that she was a choir member for years. My Dad who passed away several years ago, Albert Cox, was an Elder. He and Mom often prepared the elements for the Lord's Supper. Again, thank you so much. Sometimes Mom is not very talkative, but she is appreciative.

Sincerely, Susan Cox Miller

To all the generous members of Little Chapel who donate such wonderful items to us, helping us care for many in need. Have blessed holy Easter.

Prayers and Peace, S. M. Isaac

OUR MISSIONARIES IN CONGO We are doing well here in Congo. Always lots to do. I was recently in Kananga in the Kasai province doing a nutrition training for about 30 people. It is always en-joyable for me to get out in the interior where the ac-tion happens. The nutrition team is now in the Tshika-pa area doing a similar training and I would appreciate your prayers for Mbuyi and Esperant who are leading that training. I stayed back to work on next steps/planning. Larry is doing well but as usual is juggl-ing a lot managing this large health project and the past 2 weeks have been more stressful than usual. We were very shocked and saddened by the terrorist attack in Brussels, Belgium yesterday on the airport there and the metro. We did language study there many years ago and have friends there. The Brussels airport is our usual route back to the USA. It is very tragic and I do not understand this violence. Please give our greet-ings to all at LCOB and our thanks for their support and prayers. Peace, Inge

emorials PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN

There is so much of it during Spring! There is joy in the first bloom in the garden, in watching little ones scamper about looking for colored eggs, in spotting the first robin and in the warm sun. There is joy in Easter and in the gathering of friends and family in celebration of the Res-urrection. This month as the Circles gather we will be celebrating the joy of the living water and the hospitality that water evokes. All of the joys of Spring and Easter are embed-ded in those two things. Blooms and birds and children cannot thrive without the water. A community must share the hospitality of the living water in order to thrive. Please invite someone to join with you as you meet in Circles and learn and talk about our joy in the living wa-ter. The schedule of Circle meetings is in the newsletter each month. We all have received a lovely invitation from the PW of Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church, 1209 North Lake Park Boulevard in Carolina Beach, to join with them to refresh, refocus and recharge at a "Sabbath Keeping Spring Retreat" on Saturday, April 23 from 10am to 2pm. Rev. Rebecca Kahnt will lead us to the meaning, purpose and necessity of the Sabbath. You may register by April 18 by contacting Jaxie Julian at 910-547-7745 or Kathy Benson at 910-612-6259. There is a $5 charge for lunch and your check, made payable to "Carolina Beach PW Org", must be mailed to the church.
