    FACTS AN, FI-URES OF QUEZON PROVINCE

    The Province formerly

    known as Tayabas, was

    explored by the paniards in

    !"#! led by $uan de alcedo%

    &urin' their exploration they

    passed throu'h the central

    portion of Tayabas in his march

    across La'una Province to

    Paracale% The followin' years,

    alcedo led his famous

    expeditions around the

    northern coast of Lu(on and

    has visited the towns of

    Casi'uran, )aler and *nfanta%

    *n !"#+, ather &ie'o de -ropesa who found a 'roup of natives with their

    own culture and 'overnment, founded the municipality of Gumaca, then

    called )umaka%

    The territory which now constitutes the province of Tayabas was at one

    time under the .urisdiction of various provinces% *n !"/" the southern andcentral portions, were under the .urisdiction of the province of )onbon,

    sometimes called )alayan 0now )atan'as1% The northern portion on the

    other hand was divided between La'una and Nueva 2ci.a, while the other

    portion was divided into the provinces of 3indoro, 3arindu4ue and

    Camarines%

    was the ancient town of Tayabas, now a barrio in the town of 7nisan where ancient tombs and

    artifacts can be found% 8owever, by the middle of the ancient century the provincial capital was

    moved to what is now the municipality of Tayabas%

    The year !"5" marked the spiritual birth of 9ue(on Province with its incorporation into

    the &iocese of Nueva Caceres% The first Catholic )ishop of the Province was ray rancisco

    active volcano, towerin' about 45$2'feet above sea level as the most prominent peak of the

    ran'e% -ther mountain peaks within the ran'e from 15800to 65000feet above sea level can be

    found in the )ondoc Peninsula with Polilio *sland, $omali' and :labat *sland with an altitude of

    The Climate of 9ue(on is classified as second, third and fourth type%

    The second type of climate which is characteri(ed by no dry season with verypronounced rain period is from November to $anuary%

    The third type of season is not very pronounced, relatively dry from November to

    :pril and wet durin' the rest of the year% The maximum rain period are not very pronounced with

    very short dry season lastin' only from one (1to three ($months% outhern 9ue(on belon's

    to this type of climate%

    The fourth type is characteri(ed by a more or less even distribution of rain fall

    throu'hout the year% Re'ions of the northern and southern portion of the province fall in this
