Welcome back to a new year! I am so excited that we are starting
out a new school year and I want this school year to be meaningful
to you. I want to push every single one of you to think beyond
today and set hard goals that will help you in your future. We had
a great summer program this year. Although it was a hard year
with difficult classes including the Physical Science class, the
students were able to push through, work hard and accomplish
their goal of completing their classes to earn 6 to 7 college credits.
Sometimes life is hard, but when we are able to push ourselves to
do things we never thought were possible, we grow and learn and
become better. I loved getting to know those of you who attended
the summer program this year, and I loved seeing each of you
grow in just the short time while you were living and attending
college classes at UVU.
I am also excited for your new UB presidency this year. My hope is that we can work
together as a group representing you with activity ideas that can help you to grow and
push you to make goals that will improve your life. I cannot stress enough how much
UB can help you if you allow it to. UB was created to open your mind and show you
that you can go to college, graduate and have a career that you love. Just like the UB
summer program was not easy for all of you this summer, life may not always be easy,
but it will be completely worth it in the end.
I wish you a successful year. If you need extra help in a class, if you are not sure what
you need to do as a senior to apply to a college or get financial aid, please go to your
UB Advisor in your school. They are in your school to help you with whatever
challenge you may be facing, and they are there to help you succeed. Please do not sit
back and let the year go by without pushing yourself to be a better person. I am also
here to help you with whatever help you need. Here is to another great year in Upward
Bound.

Daniel Borba Upward Bound
2017-2018 President
Hi everybody, my name is Danny Borba and I have the honor and privilege
of being this year’s UB President. For those of you who don't know me, I
go to Orem High. I enjoy music, hanging out with my friends and family,
and being an Orem High Tiger. This school year has finally started. Some
are starting brand new and for others, it is their last year to be a high school.
I encourage you all to enjoy the moments you get. Whether it be at a
football game with friends or studying for a test that is happening the next
day, take advantage of being in high school. Also, don't procrastinate. Just
do it. This year is going to be awesome and I am excited to meet you all.
