The Romantic Hero – “A mysterious, melancholy, person who feels out of step with society” – Doesn’t fit in with the new Industrial World…

Ludwig van Beethoven – German Composer; composed music to stir deep

emotions (just as poetry was intended to);

Beethoven was the first composer to fully use the broad range of instruments in a modern orchestra.

Realism

In the mid-1800s, Realism was a movement to present the world “as it was,” without the Romantic emphasis of emotions and imagination.

1870s – “An artistic movement intended to capture the first fleeting impression made by an object on the viewer’s eye.”

2. Come up with a title for your artwork/poem.

3. Provide a written explanation of what your artwork or poem is about (in addition to creating an actual painting/drawing or poem).
