Skill Development Program for training of candidates in different trades is being conducted by National Institute of Technology Patna, such that they may get start their own work or may get employed in Industries and different organizations where such skilled personnel are required.

i) Duration: 3 Months 8th June 2015 to 29th Aug 2015

ii) Intake/ trade: as per above table in different trades

iii) Age limit: Maximum 20 years on the date 30th April 2015

iv) Minimum Qualification: Candidate must have passed Qualifying Examination as per requirement of the different trades (Listed above) from a recognized State/ Central Board.

v) Reservation: Seats under OBC (NCL), SC, ST and PWD categories shall be allotted to candidates producing valid certificate issued by competent authority as per list Notified by Govt. of Bihar. Candidates claiming reservation are required to apply with valid copy of certificate issued by the Competent Authority

vi) Relaxation: Relaxation in age of five years shall be allowed to SC/ ST/ and PH candidates as per rules of Govt. of India.

2. Selection Process: i) The selection of candidate will be based on Academic Merit and Aptitude test and/ or

Interview. ii) Merit list shall be prepared only for candidates who qualify in the Aptitude test based on

weightage as detailed below: (a) Weightage of 40 marks will be given for % of marks obtained in the minimum

qualifying examination by a candidate and trade, (i.e. if a candidate applies for Draftsmanship trade then 12th % marks shall be considered and for other Trades 10th % Marks shall be considered).

If any 12th pass candidate wants to apply for the other than Draftsmanship trades, then he/ she must apply do so but weightage for only 10th marks shall be allowed.

(b) Aptitude Test will have weightage of 60 marks i.e. % of marks obtained in aptitude test by a candidate shall be scaled to FM =60.

iii) Aptitude Test: A common Aptitude Test for all trades under Skill development Program shall be conducted. by NIT Patna.

(a) The questions in aptitude test will be from General Science, reasoning, logic, mathematics, English etc. from the (10th) Matriculation syllabus of BSEB and CBSE.

(b) The aptitude Test will be of 1 Hr. (i.e. 60 minutes) duration, and have Objective type question(s) with multiple choice answers

(c) All questions will be of equal marks. Candidates are required to choose correct answer from the options given.

(d) Candidates must avoid making wield guess for answers, There will be negative marking for wrong answer, for four wrong answers marks equivalent to one right answer will be deducted.

(e) The test shall be conducted only at designated center as decided by NIT Patna. iv) Candidate must score minimum 50% marks in Aptitude Test for selection. However

relaxation in minimum cut off marks (i.e. 45% marks) in Aptitude to SC/ ST/ PD candidates shall be allowed as per rules of the Govt. of India.

v) Allotment of seat in any trade will be done by selection committee based on merit list prepared for selection as detailed at section 8 (ii) above, i.e. based on Academic record and Aptitude test and availability of seats in any trade/ category.

vi) Selection committee constituted for the purpose of admission shall have following members as nominated by the Director NIT Patna:

i. Chairman Selection Committee ii. Coordinator - Skill Development Program. iii. HOD (Respective department offering Courses) of the Institute iv. OBC Representative (Faculty of the Institute) v. SC/ ST Representative (Faculty of the Institute)

vii) The Institute may decide to conduct Interview of some weightage for personality assessment and allotment of trades as per preference of the candidates.

viii) Selection candidates are required to report with original documents for verification and confirmation of selection. Thereafter they will directed to depositing requisite fee, as decided by the Institute or as per rules the provisions/ direction of Department of Industries, Govt. of Bihar as detailed under section 14 of the Notification.

3. Application Procedure: i) Application form for admission to skill development program may be down loaded from NIT

Patna website or Industries department website. ii) Separate application for (I) Draftsmanship by 12th pass with mathematics as one subject and

for (ii) Other trades with 10th Pass are required to be submitted iii) Candidates must apply on prescribed application form only with following self-attested

documents (a) Photocopy of 10th pass certificate (b) 10th marks sheet (c) 12th marks sheet for Draftsmanship Trade only (d) OBC (NLC), SC, ST, PD certificate issued by competent authority. (only for those

who claim for seat under reserved category) iv) Application with all documents and DD must be submitted by the last date and time of

submission by hand or by Speed post/ ordinary post to The Program Coordinator, Department of Elect Engg. National Institute of Technology Patna, Patna - 800005 (Bihar)

v) The Top of the application envelop must have been written as “Skill Development Program: Draftsmanship Trade/ Other trades”.

vi) Applications received after due date and time shall be rejected and not be considered for selection. Fee received is non-refundable.

vii) Admit card for admission test may be collected.as explained in section 5 below.

4. Application Fee: Demand draft (DD) of Rs 300/- issued by any bank in favour of National Institute of Technology

Patna - SDP a/c payable at Patna. Candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ PD category are required to

deposit only Rs 150/- DD. No Cash deposit shall be accepted.

5. Admit card for Aptitude Test Admit card for Aptitude Test may collected by the candidate from NIT Patna in person as per date notified after producing Original and valid Photo Identity card such as 10th Admit card, 12th admit card, Aadhaar card, valid Driving License, Passport, PAN Card etc. Candidate must come with original and one photocopy of the Photo I card to receive Admit card.

6. Course Fee: Skill development training program is fully sponsored and funded by Industries department Govt. of Bihar and Conducted by National Institute of Technology Patna. Hence

NO FEE WILL BE CHARGED FROM CANDIDATES SELECTED FOR THE PROGRAM.

7. Hostel facility: At present NIT Patna has limited hostel facility. No Hostel facility to the selected candidates will be provided by NIT Patna. Therefore selected candidates are required to make their own arrangement for stay and food for the period of training at Patna.

Guidelines for Students admitted to Skill Development Program

NIT Patna challenges students to be learners who assume responsibility for being a part of a community of scholars. Student presence and participation in the classroom is an important component of this challenge. Furthermore, as part of its mission, NIT PATNA offers an education that prepares students for professional employment. Each student is encouraged to develop a professional work ethic that reflects responsibility, initiative, and teamwork.

10. Class Participation Policy & Student Conduct

a) Students are expected to attend all classes. Students who are absent from class miss opportunities to contribute to the learning environment of the classroom and are developing patterns that will not be tolerated in the professional workplace.

b) In light of the above, the student is responsible for all assigned course work and cannot be absolved of this responsibility. When enrolled in a particular course, the student is obligated to do all of the work assigned. Punctual and regular attendance is vital to the discharge of this obligation and absences, excused or not, do not alter this responsibility.

c) The selected candidates are required to attend theory classes and practical sessions as per time table of the respective program. Candidates who have minimum 75% attendance in theory and practical (separately), only all such candidates will be eligible for final evaluated for Theory and practical components separately for the trades in which they have been admitted.

d) Students whose absences exceed 25 percent of the scheduled classes and laboratories may receive an “F” for the course regardless of grade average if you do not drop the class by the college drop date.

e) If a student is more than 15 minutes late, they will be counted absent for the class period. However they are welcome to stay for the class period for that day.

11. Student Conduct: i) Students admitted for training must maintain discipline and decorum of the program/ Institute. If they

are found involved in any unlawful activity then they may be expelled from the program. ii) Students are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and to dress in the

appropriate attire for the class being presented. iii) Each student is expected to carry workshop Aparan while on training, and dressed in Full paint/

trouser, Half sleeve/ Full sleeve. Shirt and full shoes, Wearing loose clothes such as Dhoti, Kurta and Pajama is not allowed.

iv) Each student is expected to act responsibly and take the consequences for his/ her action or inaction as appropriate.

12. Classroom Etiquette:

a) An atmosphere of respect will be expected of all within the classroom.

b) Any open displays of prejudice, harassment, etc. will not be tolerated.

c) Any student who disrupts the classroom will be asked to leave and will receive a zero on all work due that day and will be counted as absent for the day.

d) A second disruption by that student will be grounds for the student to be administratively dropped from the class and other disciplinary action will be taken as appropriate.

e) There will be no smoking, dipping, chewing tobacco or use of profane language in the classroom.

13. Cell Phones:

While the use of electronic devices (cell phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) are not restricted in class their use must be extremely limited. If there is or could be an emergency, i.e. volunteer firefighter, expectant mother at home, family emergency surgery, etc. the instructor should be notified prior to the incident if possible. Be respectful of the learning environment.

14. Textbook/ Reference Materials, Additional Resources & Supplies (To be provided by student)

Class text Books, different National/ International Code of practice; Nation Fire Prevention Agency (newest version) are required to be with students as per direction of the Instructors for each Trade.

Supplies will include pencil/ paper, scientific calculator, textbooks, handouts and lab manuals if required. Required materials and tools must be available with each student in every class in order have full impact and educational advantage. There will be need for hand tools in practical class. Instructor will give detail in class for required tools. Some details are as follows

i) Scientific Calculator CASIO or equivalent ii) Workshop Aparan (Navy Blue Colour) while in class room & Practical training session, iii) Note Book, Pens and pencils iv) Analog/ Digital Multimeter or any other measuring tools as per trade’s requirement (see

instructor for specifics) v) Common hand tools – as per trade’s requirement such as screwdriver, pliers, wire strippers,

safety glasses, etc. (see instructor for specifics) vi) DO NOT COME TO CLASS “EMPTY HANDED”! vii) Instructor reserves the right to give a grade for tools if the situation requires so.

15. Course Syllabus and Evaluation: i) The details of the syllabus/ course content and working Practical session plan for the trade

training shall be as prepared by respective department. ii) The Teaching, Lecture and Practice plan will notified at the start of classes. The teaching

schedule will also include evaluation schedule. iii) The training program shall be conducted as per working days of the institute, i.e. 5 days a week

and holidays shall be observed as per notification of NIT Patna. iv) If due to unavoidable reasons program gets delayed or classes gets suspended, then the

number of teaching/ practical days may be made-up by holding class on Saturday and/ or Sunday as decided by the program coordinator.

v) Lab – This course will include labs that will utilize the application, construction and commercial applications. The course will also give heavy consideration in the proper usage of material, tools and understanding of the trade and applicable regulations and practices used in the construction for a given installation.

vi) Class Quizzes – Class quizzes will be utilized on an “as needed” basis. This need will arise at the discretion and evaluation of the instructor according to the responses and participation, or lack of understanding on the students’ part.

vii) Concepts that are apparently clear to the entire class will not require a quiz. Quizzes will be utilized as an additional tool to bring focus and clarity, even re-teach, major points and concepts that have been missed.

viii) Article Tests – Article tests will be constructed with a variety of assessment concepts, i.e. multiple choices, T/F, essay, calculations, word problems, fill in the blank and matching. There will also be

ix) Collective Application Test to determine general knowledge that will support the use of the regulation and laws. Included within these boundaries will be: (a) Question and Answer and (b) Practical (labs)

x) Projects –You will be given guidelines and a scoring rubric, if required to help you know what is expected for this assignment.

xi) Final Exam – Class Test and final exams will be formatted on the same principles as unit tests including practical exams with rubric scoring formats.

xii) There shall be continuous evaluation system and periodic test conducted on regular basis through Periodic class test and assignments.

xiii) Minimum one test per month (for Full Marks 100 each) and Final Trade Test (after end of classes - for Full Marks 100 or more) will be conducted for each admitted candidates.

xiv) Appearing at Class test, assignment and final Test is compulsory.

xv) All evaluations shall be internal, and based on training imparted to the candidates. Major part of evaluation shall be based on lectures, Practical and viva only. However Final Practical examination will be conducted by external expert assisted by Instructor/ course coordinator (internal).

17. Cheating/ Plagiarism Policy: NIT Patna expects all students to engage in scholastic pursuits in a manner that is beyond reproach. Students are expected to maintain complete honesty and integrity. Any student found guilty of scholastic dishonesty is subject to disciplinary action. Scholastic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, cheating on academic work (such as copying, bribing, or buying/selling tests), plagiarism (claiming another’s work as one’s own without acknowledgement INCLUDING Internet data), and collusion (unauthorized collaboration). See College Catalogue for additional information.

18. Safety All students in any trade/ course will comply with all general safety rules, which apply to the type of activity in progress in each class. Violation of course safety rules can result in grade penalties and/or other appropriate disciplinary action.

19. Course Certification: i) The candidates obtaining minimum 50% marks in Aggregate (written and practical test) will be

eligible for Certificate and placement by the Institute. ii) The candidates who do not meet the above requirement but has 75 % attendance shall be given a

certificate of completion of training only. iii) The candidates who do not complete the course/ training or discontinue with or without information

shall have no claim of certificate, nor will they be accommodated in next phase of training program. iv) The candidates admitted for training must maintain discipline and decorum of the program/ Institute. If

they are found involved in any unlawful activity then they may be expelled from the program. v) The Institute reserves the right of revising selection rules and course content from time to time.

20. Undertaking to be signed after admission

All admitted students required to acknowledge that they have received a copy of the syllabus for the course for the trade and have read and understand the syllabus and to abide by the guidelines presented therein.
