PLACES OF INTERESTSnohomish offers attractions ranging from places to picnic, hike, bike, and enjoy the outdoors to farmer’s markets, boating, zoos, fine restaurants (often featuring locally grown foods), and nightspots. You can easily spend a day enjoying the district’s outdoors or doing some shopping, and then retire for the evening for a meal and a drink or two to round out the night.
> Much as the Guide tries to sell it, tourism is not that big in Snohomish, and a lot of the “recreational activities” tend to involve getting roaring drunk, high on something, and/or kicking the shit out of someone.

Snohomish is famous for its antiquing, and is known as “the antiques capital of the Northwest.” You can find many small antique shops, particularly around the First Street area in the district’s histori-cal downtown.
Seattle isn’t all urban sprawl, as some parts might lead you to believe, not while it still has the fertile farmlands and riverbanks of Snohomish. With its flat, rolling fields divided by the Snohomish River and its trib-utaries, the district is one of the most sparsely populated in the metro-plex, and the government has been devoted to keeping it that way for decades. Snohomish is Seattle’s garden and breadbasket, where a good deal of the food is grown and raised for an urban area of millions.
This devotion to agriculture (and aquaculture along the river-banks) has allowed the district to hold on to some of its small-town community and charm. The people of Snohomish are known for their friendliness, and the natural environment can be a welcome break from the crowded and hurried life closer to Downtown.
> A lot of the “charm” of Snohomish went the way of all extinct species: outdone by industry and natural selection. The independent family farm is nothing but a fiction in the district these days, something agricorps set up for “boutique” sales of organic or specialty produce or meats at inflated prices, because people think they come from “Aunt Sally’s” rather than Soyfoods, Inc., or whoever. The corps used the second Crash as a chance to buy out the last remaining home-steaders, some of who still work the farms they used to own for the new corpo-rate management. The rest were displaced to find work elsewhere in the ‘plex as the company brought in new workers, which has only added fuel to tensions in the area, especially race relations since, you guessed it, a lot of those new workers are poor orks and trolls able to do hard field-work at a cut rate.
