stage. MAIN FUNCTION Selective Focus- lighting can tell audience
where to look Modeling- lighting can make performers look
a certain way Mood-Lighting can convey mood or emotion
to audience Convey information- lighting can inform
audience of time of day, season, location
The “how” of lighting design Distribution- Designer can control how
much light is used in certain areas of stage
Intensity- Designer can control how bright or dim a light can be
Movement- A designer can control if a light moves (spotlight or laser)
Color- A designer can use color to help create mood or setting
NEVER TOUCH THE GLASS OF A LAMP! Screw base- common light bulb Pre-focus base- 1 point of contact, used
in Fresnel instrument, pushes in/pulls out Bi pin base- 2 points of contact, used in
ellipsoidal instrument, pushes in/pulls out End prong base- 2 points of contact, used
in spotlight/projector Double ended- common fluorescent bulb
Hue: The “color” something is Ex. Red hue or blue hue
Saturation: How much Hue something has Ex. Darker Red or Darker blue
Transmission: How much light can get through Ex. 95% transmission=lots of light 25% trans
= little light
