Dear Friends, Neighbors, and fellow Cattlemen,

Greetings and welcome to our 25th annual Bull Sale. What a year it has been. Fortunately

calving has gone well and David and I are now looking at the best set of calves we have ever

had, despite the poorest of conditions last year. As I am writing this, there is a good cover of

snow on the ground. I really feel that we are near the end of the drought.

The experts tell us that cattle numbers are at a 60 year low, and good prices are still ahead of

us. There’s an ever-expanding national and world population that need fed a good source of

protein. We, as cattle men and women, will have to meet this demand on the same amount of

acres. To do this, we need to use the best genetics that we can acquire.

We at Daigger - Orr Angus use an extensive artificial insemination program to accomplish our

genetic goals. David and I are constantly looking for sires to meet our vigorous demands.

We search for sires that excel for numerous traits at all ends of the spectrum. Not only the

convenient visual traits such as teats, udders, feet, fleshing ability, and disposition; but also

for calving ease, growth, carcass traits, milking ability, and feed efficiency.

Years like this require us to do whatever it takes to just get through. One thing that we had

to do this year is develop our replacement heifers on range at Tryon and feed them no hay.

Subsequently, Pat has stayed up at the ranch quite a bit to take care of the cattle there. I want

to take this opportunity to thank her and say, “Good job, Mom.”

Lunch:A complimentary lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. sale day at the ranch headquarters.

Sale Location:Ranch headquarters are located 2 miles south of North Platte on Highway 83, then 6.5 miles east on State Farm Road. At canal bridge, go 1 mile south. Sale barn is on the west side of the road.

Trucking:Free delivery within a 200 mile radius of North Platte, NE on purchases over $2500. To be fair to those who haul their own bulls - sale day or the next - we will deduct $50.00 per bull purchased.

Feed and Wintering Arrangements:Henry Feedlot came to the headquarters and fed this set of bulls. We appreciate Henry’s crew for doing this for us. Any questions about the feeding program can be directed toward Mike Henry at (308) 534-2409.

Fertility:All bulls selling have been fertility tested by Stockman’s Vet Clinic and will be accompanied by proper certificates. Scrotal measurements will be on a supplement sheet.

Herd Health:All cattle will be accompanied by proper health papers for interstate shipment. At birth, all cattle were vaccinated for 7-way Blackleg. At weaning, all cattle were vaccinated for Lepto 5, IBR, PI3, Haemophilus, BVD, BRSV and poured with Ivermectin. All bulls have tested negative for BVD and Leukosis. All black bulls are guaranteed free of the genetic defects of AM, NH, & CA. All red bulls are guaranteed free of OS.

$Values are multi-trait selection indexes expressed in dollarsper head, to assist commercial beef producers by addingsimplicity to genetic selection decisions. A $Value has mean-ing only when used in comparison to the $Value of anotheranimal. For example, just as with EPDs, variation in $Valuesbetween animals indicates average expected differences inthe relative value of progeny if random mating is assumedand the calves are exposed to the same environment.

$Values should be used to complement the criteria that pro-ducers already use when selecting bulls.

The $Values are not designed to be driven by a single trait,as an index is multi-trait by design. These selection tools arethe result of the application of industry-relevant market val-ues to Angus genetics for preweaning, feedlot, and carcassmerit.

The $W, $F, $G and $B values on individual animals and theSire Evaluation Report may be viewed at www.angus.org.

Weaned Calf Value ($W): an index expressed in dollars perhead, is the expected average difference in future progenyperformance for preweaning merit. $W includes both rev-enue and cost adjustments associated with differences inbirth weight, weaning direct growth, maternal milk, andmature cow size.

Feedlot Value ($F): an index expressed in dollars per head,is the expected average difference in future progeny perform-ance for postweaning performance compared to progeny ofother sires.

Grid Value ($G): an index expressed in dollars per head, isthe expected average difference in future progeny perform-ance for carcass grid merit compared to progeny of othersires.
