Dear Friends, Your generosity this year was amazing! Although the volatile economy has affected everyone, your hearts and pocketbooks were opened wide. Thank you so much for keeping Project Joy a priority. Many local organizations received toys beautifully wrapped by our volunteers. Jewish Family Services received multiple toys for over sixty children. Some individual needy families, who were brought to our attention, received holiday gifts for their children. A total of over one hundred children were remembered. The children and their parents in the pediatric departments of Moses Taylor and Geisinger Hospitals were espe-cially touched when we personally visited them and presented their children with holiday gifts and get well wishes. Multiple families were adopted from Lackawanna Children and Youth, St. Joseph Center, and the Catherine McAuley Center. These children received new toys, clothing, winter coats, outfits and pajamas, which were re-quested from their own specific and personalized wish list. Children’s Advocacy was thrilled with the gifts for older children who are sometimes overlooked. Teenagers deserved gifts too! This year we also added United Neighborhood Center and adopted a family from there as well. We work very hard in our lives, and while we may sleep, we rarely take time to rest. Restorative yoga poses help us learn to relax and rest deeply and completely.

During deep relaxation, all the organ systems of the body are benefited, and a few of the measurable results of deep relaxa-tion are the reduction of blood pressure, serum triglycerides and blood sugar levels in the blood, the increase of the "good cholesterol" levels, as well as improvement in digestion, fertili-ty, elimination, the reduction of muscle tension, insomnia and generalized fatigue.

At the JCC Pre-School we view each child as unique, with an individual growth and developmen-tal pattern. Different levels of ability and learning styles are expected, accepted and used to design age appropriate activities. Our goal is to meet each child’s needs and stimulate learning in all developmental areas: · Social – give and take in a group environment · Intellectual – cognitive & language skills · Emotional – developing a positive self-image · Physical – large, small and perceptual motor skills · Spiritual – foster awareness & respect for all religions & for Judaism through Sabbath & holiday celebrations Our developmentally based curriculum supports and encourages a young child’s natural way of learning, while fostering an understanding of basic concepts on which future learning depends. Weekly gym classes and swimming are also part of the overall program.

Our Pre-School Assets A developmentally based, two-year, multi-age pre-school program which is play centered. Play is considered to be a central focus in the development of young children. College-educated, ex-perienced early childhood educators who love children, their warm concern will come through as they provide feedback about your child’s progress.

BE A PART OF THE NEWEST BIG HIT!BE A PART OF THE NEWEST BIG HIT!

Kids Yoga Yoga, adapted for pre-school children, develops body

awareness, language, good listening skills, cooperation and powers of observa-tion. It teaches pre-school children about nature, their environment and inspires their imaginations. It pre-

pares them for breathing techniques used in yoga. They learn by playing, singing, moving and imitat-ing. This is an ideal time for children to begin a yoga practice.

Yoga with school-aged children balances quiet and active poses with

game playing, singing, storytelling, drawing, simple breath meditations and rest. Children can easily follow the teacher’s instructions by learning the names of different body parts, their locations and function. As children learn the names of the postures and movements they develop a yoga vocabulary. They can each assume the role of leader and teach their classmates a yoga posture or breath-ing exercise. Their yoga improves very quickly.

Pre-teens and learn about anatomy and physiology in greater depth. We dis-

cuss how muscles and joints allow bones to move; how yoga and meditation affect digestion, immune and neurological functions and the nervous and glandular sys-tems; how yoga and meditation can help them study for exams and cope with the stress and pressures of daily life. The classes are physically challenging and pro-vide a complete workout for young bodies.
