Your personal Prayer:O Lord God of time and eternity, who makest us creatures of time that, when time is over, we may attain thy blessed eternity: With time, thy gift, give us also wisdom to redeem the time, lest our day of grace be lost; for our Lord Jesus’ sake.

Amen.

All Souls Day AD 2018 CHORAL COMMUNION WITH

COMMEMORATION OF THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED

The Last Judgement (Detail), Fra Angelico, 1430

Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him

and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with

glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith,

the salvation of your souls.

1 PETER 1:8-9

All Souls Day

The Priest welcomes the people.Grace, mercy and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be with youAnd also with you

"Welcome to this evening's service when we shall be remembering and giving thanks for our departed loved ones and friends. I invite you now to come up and place a lighted candle on the altar in their memory."

The Collect: Let us pray for the peace and well-being of the

whole Church on earth and in paradise.Silence

Everlasting God, our maker and redeemer, grant us, with all the faithful departed, the sure benefits of your Son's saving passion and glorious resurrection, that, in the last day, when you gather up all things in Christ, we may with them enjoy the fullness of your promises; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

New Testament Reading: 1 Peter 1.3-9 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honour at the

revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

-2-Gradual Psalm 23

1  The Lord ’ is my ‘ shepherd : therefore ‘ can I ‘ lack ‘ nothing.2  He shall feed me in a ‘ green ‘ pasture : and lead me forth be’side the ‘ waters of ‘ comfort.3  He shall con’vert my ‘ soul : and bring me forth in the paths of righteousness ‘ for his ‘ Name’s ‘ sake.4  Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will ‘ fear no ‘ evil : for thou art with me, thy ‘rod and thy ‘ staff ‘ comfort me.5  Thou shalt prepare a table before me, against ‘ themthat ‘ trouble me : thou hast anointed my head with oil ‘ and my ‘ cup shall be ‘ full. 6  But thy loving-kindness and mercy shall follow me, all the ‘ days of my ‘ life : and I will dwell in the ‘ house of the ‘ Lord for ‘ ever.Glory be to the Father ‘ and to • the ‘ Son : and ‘ to the‘ Holy ‘ Ghost; As it was in the beginning is ‘ now and • ever ‘ shall be : world without ‘ end. A' — ‘ men.

Gospel Acclamation:Alleluia (x3) We do not live by ’ bread a- ’ lone, but by every word that comes ’ from the • mouth of ’ God. Alleluia  (x3)

The Gospel St John 5:19-25When the Gospel is announced: Glory to you, O Lord

So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.  For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel. For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also

Page 4:   · Web viewAnd with Lazarus once poor. May you have eternal rest. We leave in silence; ... I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life

-3-the Son gives life to whom he will. The Father judges no one, but has given all judgement to the Son, that all may honour the Son, just as they honour the Father. Whoever does not honour the Son does not honour the Father who sent him. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgement, but has passed from death to life.“Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.

After the Gospel we say: Praise to you, O Christ

The Sermon

A COMMEMORATION OF THE FAITHFUL DEPARTEDYou are worthy, O Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power:For you have created all things: and by your will they have their being.

You are worthy, O Lamb, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed for God saints from every tribe and language and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom of priests serving our God, and they will reign with you on earth.

"We now remember our departed loved ones and friends and among them we name....."

This is the will of him that sent me that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me,and I will raise them up at the last day.

Father in heaven, we praise your name for all those we have remembered tonight, for the example of their lives, the life and grace you gave them, and the peace in which they rest.
