Congratulations to Cara Allan and Nathan Holmes on successfully completing the Clyde Gateway and Robertson Construction ‘Get into Engineering’ course.

Clyde Gateway, through Robertson Construction, offer our pupils an opportunity to taste life as an engineer in the many different fields that they operate, such as Civil Engineering; Structural Engineering and Electrical Engineering. The course is intended to raise awareness of Engineering and stimulate an interest in this field.

The pupils undertake various classroom tasks at school and in the university which test them in very relevant employability skills such as problem solving, team work and communication skills, as well as more engineering specific tasks, and on site Health and Safety awareness training. All of this before visiting ‘live’ engineering projects, such as the Cunningar Loop, to gain first-hand experience of the many facets of engineering and to see their classroom training in practice.

As part of the programme, the pupils carried out project work at Robertson Central construction sites, including piling and steelwork activities at Collegelands in Glasgow and an introduction to civil engineering at the Huntershill sports complex in Bishopbriggs.

They also attended training sessions held by Robertson Central, where they received an introduction to mechanical and electrical engineering.

On completion the course Cara stated, "I enjoyed everything about 'Get Into Engineering', especially the visit to Kelvin College where we learned about all the different paths there were into engineering. I've always been interested in engineering, but this has shown me all the different types of jobs that are out there, and I am now certain that I want to pursue a career in civil engineering."
