l1 INTRODUCTION

The SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA IDSTORICAL SOCIETY beganpublishing a journal entitled PRAIRIE LORE in 1964 with a July and October issue.

1 Four issues were published yearly from 1965 until 1980, when only three issues were produced. From 1981 until the present, two issues have been published yearly, oneeach Spring and Fall. At the present time (Fall 1999) 103 issues of PRAIRIE LOREhave been published.

The Thirty-Five Year Index To PRAIRIE LORE was compiled to provide a quick and easy reference to people, places and events that have appeared in the journal over the past three and a half decades. Cross-referencing has brought the total

l number of entries to 1900.Information in this Index is provided under four headings: Subject, Location,

Author and Date Of Publication. Many times the Table Of Contents' story title was not indicative of the true subject, so an effort was made to designate the individual person, place or event each story was about. When searching for a particular story listed in this index, it may be necessary to locate it under the author's name when looking through the actual journals.
