Great ideas for trunk or treat. Don't forget about a costume for yourself. The best and most interesting trunks have their owners dressed to match the theme.

Jonah and the Whale (car covered to look like whale, kids stuck their hand into tote of cooked spagetti and jello and tried to pull out Jonah),

Lazurus (used truck bed camper to resemble tomb and performed small skit of Jesus raising

Lazurus every 20 mins)

Fiery Furnace (cardboard box with heater and orange lights that kids could look into)

The theme is Forever Rely On God - FROG. Tons of frogs and have games for the kids to play to get the candy.

Christmas. We had a decorated small tree, lights, etc. I played a christmas cd in my cd player and my son dressed up in a santa costume and passed out the candy.

"Tis so Sweet to Trust in Jesus" and I decorated the back of van with all kinds of "SWEETS". I hung a pastel sheet from the ceiling and draped it over boxes to set a cake stand, platter of cookies, candy dishes, etc. I also made colorful "lollipops" out of paper plates and wooden dowls and "hard candy" with small balloons about the size of a softball wrapped with cellaphane. It looked like Candyland. I wrote the verse "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding" on the lollipops.

I put a sheet over a large piece of cardboard to have a flat surface over the back of my mustang and lined up my daughter's Care Bears with a Bible in front of them. It's a caring Bible study group.

Noah's Ark theme. I'll cut a large ark shape from plywood, paint it up, mount it in the back of our van. I figure I'll cut an opening, like the door to the ark, for the kids to reach in and get the candy, stack dozens of stuffed animals on top. We're even going to take our pet rabbit ("kangaroo") with us for the kids to pet, if they like!

Another one was a zookeeper who had lots of stuffed animals set about.

Transformers. I will use his action figures and decorations. I am going to center it around one of my favorite verses: Romans 12:2 (Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing for your mind).

Hillbilly (had granny in rocking chair stirring pot with dry ice),

Indians (set up teepee),

Cowboys (campfire with candles to be shot out by watergun),

Luau Beach or Luau theme. Open up the back of the vehicle, hang some towels and set up a boogie board against the door, set out beach chairs, use an umbrella. Wear her bathing suit over her clothes. (built tiki hut in truck bed and did the limbo)

The Charlie Brown: Great Pumpkin is always a hit. You might even be able to get it on DVD and play it on the portable DVD player as the kids walk by.

This year I am decking my van out in the glow sticks that you snap.

One lady was Mother Goose and had a few little settings around the trunk representing different nursery rhymes.

You can dress as a clown and fill your trunk with balloons.

One acted like their trunk was the back of a boat. They had fishing poles for hooking the candy. Gone Fishin’

Halloween under the Sea Fill a treasure chest with treats and place at the bottom of the "sea."

Create a background of blue using sheets, curtains, tee-shirts or table cloths and cover with a fish net or similar object. Cut lobsters out of construction paper or cardboard and top them with witches hats and small brooms in their pincers. Do the same for crabs but use ghost costumes with their legs and eyes poking out. Paint small pumpkins blue and add a goldfish or two swimming around. Scatter rocks, shells, sand and drift wood across the floor (contain sand in a cookie sheet or two for easy clean-up). Fill a treasure chest with treats and place it in the center. String a "Happy Halloween" banner

Action Figure/Movie Inspiration

Use action figures as inspiration and build your set around Star Wars, Transformers or other movies. Dress them in costumes as if they are attending a Halloween party. Create small dioramas out of shoe boxes to set the different characters in different rooms. Some could be standing around a punch bowl while others are in the kitchen. Or perhaps some guests are chatting in the backyard around a barbecue or pool.

Zoo Theme

Set up a stuffed animal zoo.

Put those stuffed animals to good use. Dress as a zookeeper or an animal. Offer animal face-painting, particularly for the curmudgeons who did not come in costume.

Fairy Tales

Seek inspiration from favorite children's stories and set the scene for a Mad Hatter's tea party, a dollhouse bedecked as the cottage belonging to Goldilocks' three bears, Prince Charming's castle, or a bedroom set for seven dwarfs.
