C. Listen to the passage and tell whether the following statements are true or false:

Do you know why different animals or pests have their special colors? Colors in them seem to be mainly used to protect themselves.

Some birds like eating locusts, but birds cannot easily catch them. Why? It is because locusts change their colors with the changes of the colors of crops. When crops are green, locusts look green. But as harvest time comes, locusts change into the same brown color as crops’. Some other pests whose colors are different from plants are easily found and eaten by birds. So they have to hide themselves and appear only at night.

If you study the animals’ life, you’ll find the main use of colors is to protect themselves. Bears, lions and other animals move quietly through forests. They cannot be easily seen by hunters because their colors are much like the colors of the trees.

Colors are useful not only on the land, but also in the sea. A kind of fish in the sea can give out a kind of black liquid when they face danger. The liquid spreads over quickly, so they cannot be found by their enemies and can

quickly swim away. That is why they can live safely though they are not strong at all.

D. Listen to the passage and complete the following sentences:Some teachers don’t think mobile phones are good for children. They

say children depend too much on them. Children can speak to their parents at any time and ask their parents to solve problems. If they have left their school things home, they phone home and expect their parents to bring them to school.

Another problem is that if children don’t turn off their phones, they may ring loudly during lessons. This makes teachers angry. Also, using the phones a lot might damage children’s health.

However, some parents think that if their children have mobile phones, they will be safer. When there is an emergency, they can use the mobile phones to ask for help. For example, if a child is in trouble or get lost, or he sees something unusual happening, he could call his parents or teachers immediately. Mobile phones are also very useful when children are late back home. With a mobile phone, it is easy for children to keep in touch with their parents, and friends as well.

B. Listen to the passage and tell whether the following statements are true or false:

Are you eager to be a person who has a good memory? People who enjoy their wonderful memory often do well in their studies and work. These people only have to spend a few minutes on a page and will keep what they read in mind. Here are some things you can do to improve your memory. Try these:

Observe more carefully. Some people who are said to have a bad memory don’t really have memory problems. They just don’t take time to notice the details. If you pay attention to the details, you’re sure to have a much clearer memory. To achieve that, you could practice memorizing lists of things, such as the things you are going to buy in a supermarket, or even the ingredients printed on your biscuit box.

Do more activities such as puzzles, word games, and learn a new language. These activities with further improve your brain functions and will help you improve your memory.

Page 5:   · Web viewMy father bought me a beautiful Christmas tree this year. 2. ... word games, and learn a new ... In Bangkok, at Riverside Hotel. M

Try to have more free time. When you are tired, you are probably to have a weaker focus. Find ways to get rid of stress, so your brain will be clearer and ready to have new ideas.

Get enough sleeping hours. You need at least seven hours of sleep every night. Give your brain a chance to repair the damage done by a day’s tiring work. Eat lots of fruits, vegetables and grains. These foods help you improve your memory, too.

The making of the 2016 Rio Olympic medals is a mix of art and science. A team of about 100 people have been working in secret inside the Brazilian Mint to produce more than 5,000 medals ahead of the Games.

"Seeing them on the podium(领奖台), I’ll know I made that medal," said

Nelson Carneiro, the man who made the mold(模子) for the 2016 medals. "I’ll

feel like I’m getting a medal myself. And I am also proud of myself."Carneiro has made many coins since he worked at the Brazilian Mint 41

years ago, but he said making the Olympic medals was one of the most exciting projects he had done.

Carneiro had worked on the mold for two weeks by hand before it was sent to the factory. Factory workers then used a machine to strike the mold with 550 tons of force—three times—to create the round symbols of victory. The gold medals need an extra step called the "bath of gold." The gold medal is actually made of 494 grams of silver and 6 grams of gold.

The gold medal is worth about $587 in market prices. The last time Olympic medals were made of pure gold was during the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm, Sweden.

It is not a pleasant experience for you to climb out of a mud pool. However, every year thousands of people rush to jump into this pool. What they take part in is a race called Tough Mudder. The mud pool is just one of a

variety of obstacles (障碍物) in this race.

Will Dean, founder of Tough Mudder, said in an interview, “Tough Mudder is neither a race nor a competition. We call it an event.” He continued, “There are not any rewards in this event. We hope each participant can experience Tough Mudder with a different attitude .”

Actually, Tough Mudder needs participants to finish 10 to 12-mile-long obstacle courses. The obstacles often play on common human fears, such as fire, water, electricity and heights. It is mainly about teamwork, and it aims to encourage group cooperation . So participants must help others complete the courses, putting teammates before themselves and overcoming fears.

The first Tough Mudder challenge was held in the US in 2010. Till now, more than 2.5 million people worldwide have taken part in Tough Mudder events. This year, it will be held in Shanghai on October 22. Are you ready for this challenge?

Hello, listeners. Welcome to Hospital Radio. Before our music program at four, I’m going to repeat some of our hospital rules.

The hospital can sleep 800 patients. There’re eight beds in each ward. The visiting hours are from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. But remember only two people can see you at a time. Sorry about that, but you can see what would happen if we didn’t have these rules.

The other rules are about visiting hours. We start our day quite early – you might not be used to that. We wake you up at 6 o’clock, and breakfast is at 8 o’clock; lunch is at noon. There is tea at 3:30 p.m. and dinner is at 6 o’clock in the evening.

You can see the “No smoking” sign – we don’t allow smoking in the wards. I’m sure you understand why. However, if you do need to smoke, there are some smoking rooms in the hospital building.

You will find the radio switch on the wall near your bed, with your own headphones, if you want to listen to our program. It’s our own hospital radio. Wish you a quick recovery.
