Reshmi’s triplets - more photos. We saw the babies at 9 weeks, and triplet 1 and 2 are gaining weight satisfactory - now 3.4 and 3.5 kg (just over 7 1/2 pounds in old money. Baby number one (extreme left) is a girl, and number two a boy. But the third triplet who is pictured below is not thriving well - she was the smallest at birth, only weighing 1.4 kg (just over 3 pounds), and now at 9 weeks she is just 5 1/12 pounds. This was the first chance Shubhro had to examine each baby from head to toe, and triplet one and two passed with flying colours, but their wee sister has a heart murmur which Shubhro thinks may be due to a hole between the two larger chambers of the heart. This is normally present during fetal life, but usually closes after birth. The little one needs a heart scan, which should be possible to get free of cost at the nearest Medical College, and we are trying to encourage her parents to take her there. Reshmi herself is much better, from a clinical viewpoint, but as you can imagine is finding it exhausting to look after three babies - she is breast feeding them all, and there is almost always one of them needing her attention day and night. Her sister and mother are helping her, but there are some things only a Mum can do.
