International Voluntary Projects

2018-2019

Dear Partners:

Vive Mexico proudly presents to you our 2018-2019 program, and we warmly and friendly invite you to send your motivated volunteers to participate in our workcamps and medium-term projects in Mexico.

All of our projects which have been prepared to bring Mexican culture close to the volunteers bringing also the cultures of the world closer to Latin America; live and build together a great learning experience through International Voluntary Service, promoting the International Cooperation for Development.

All our projects are available for volunteers over 18 years of age, and we have a wide variety of projects such as protecting the environment, providing support for indigenous children, giving language and training courses, protecting the endangered species (Marine Turtles) and promoting cultural exchange through international cooperation and solidarity.

This year we are offering Spanish courses one week previous to the start date of all the projects, the courses are carried out in the city of Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico; the cost is 110 Euros that include: accommodation for 6 nights, materials, theory and practice, 15 hours of classes.

Conditions to participate in our Workcamps and MTVs in Mexico:

1. To be older than 18 years.

2. To be able to communicate in English (English is the official language of all our projects)

3. To speak Spanish is recommended.

4. To participate for the whole duration of the project.

5. The start date of the project is the welcome day, and the last day is departure day of the project.

6. Volunteers should bring sleeping bag and air mat.

7. The extra fee must be given to the project leader in Mexican pesos on arrival to the project.

8. In the case of projects that have extra fee, the exchange rate is indicated on Vive Mexicos website in the "Exchange" section on our homepage.

9. Volunteers will work five days per week followed by two days off, so they can use their leisure time to explore the area and enjoy the different activities that the places where they will stay have to offer.

Vive Mexico, is an international non-governmental and non-profit organization that has developed projects for International Voluntary Service, International Intercultural Training and International Cooperation for Development since 1996.

Our main activities consist in organizing international project in Mexico and send Mexican volunteers to participate in projects abroad organized by our partner organizations.

Founded in 1994 and legally registered in 1997, Vive Mexico seeks to involve young people from different nationalities in projects aimed to promote solidarity between nations and at the same time raise awareness of the problems that our society is facing nowadays, we are the first IVS organization legally constituted and officially recognized in Mexico and the largest organization in Latin America.

Project

Vive Mexico has been organizing this project regularly in Rincon de Guayabitos, Nayarit since 2014. The main achievement of the project is to protect the sea turtles with the help of volunteers who will be cooperating with a team of biologists. Up to now, the project has been quite successful and has reached extraordinary results. Participating in sea turtle conservation is a great opportunity to discover the rather charming life of sea turtles.

Work

The volunteers will be working at night from 20:00 to 08:00, four days per week with an average of thirty hours. Depending the number of turtles that come ashore, two teams might be formed among the volunteers. In this way, each group will be taking turns, working one night and taking the next night off for recovery. In addition, the weekends are also spared for resting. Some of the activities to be performed are:

1. Finding adult turtles and collect their eggs.

2. Moving the eggs to a protected place called Vivero.

3. Releasing newborn baby turtles into the sea.

4. Patrolling the beaches at night.

5. Making some reconstruction in the most important turtle camps of the region.

If you love nature, want to have a great time by the beautiful beaches, at the same time enjoying all the amenities of a hotel and witnessing the magical spectacle of natural miracles that has been reoccurring since millions of years... then this project is for you!

Skills and Certifications

By participating in this project, you will acquire the global skills of Adaptability, Global Awareness, Strategic Thinking and Collaborative Planning. Upon completing the project volunteers will receive an official letter certifying the aforementioned skills.

Accommodation

Volunteers will be hosted in a hotel in a shared room with all facilities at their disposal namely, private bathroom, hot water, swimming pool, WIFI, and air conditioning.

Location

Rincon de Guayabitos, also known as Guayabitos, is a beach town located in the astonishing Sierra Madre Occidental, in the state of Nayarit and bathed by the waters of the Pacific Ocean. It is a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to the cities of Tepic, Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta.

Participation fee

Since neither VIVE MEXICO nor its local camp partner do not receive financial support for the organization of this camp from municipality or any other private resource, in order to realize it we have to charge a participation fee of 295 Euro. The fee includes food, hosting, necessary materials and local transportation for work activities. It should be paid by bank transfer before arriving to the camp or upon arrival to the camp by the participant himself. The bank details will be provided after the acceptance of the participant to the camp.

SPECIAL NOTES: This project is for everyone who would like to contribute to environmental conservation.

Discover the state of Guanajuato and help the communities!

Project

The objective of this project is to help the local communities with recreational and restorative activities. The project is organized by the government institution Educafin. The project aims to bring the young people from different countries together with the people of Guanajuato and create an intercultural atmosphere through collective work.

Work

Volunteers will be working primarily restorative activities at a school. Some of the activities will be painting the walls, repairing benches and organizing green areas. In addition the volunteers will be participating intercultural activities with young people from Leon. There will also be a visit to the childrens hospital.


By participating in this project, you will acquire the global skills of Adaptability, Global Awareness, Strategic Thinking and Collaborative Planning, after the participation in the project volunteers will receive an official letter certifying these skills.

Accommodation

Food and accommodation will be provided during the workcamp.

Location

The camp will be organized in Leon, Guanajuato. Lenis the most populous city and municipality in the Mexican state ofGuanajuato. It is one of the most important centers in Mexico with numerous opportunities for entertainment, gastronomy, leisure activities, arts, and recreation. It is also considered one of the most environmentally friendly cities in Mexico and has a high number of cyclists because of integrating a network of bike lanes.

Leisure time

The city of Leon is quite close to the state capital of Guanajuato which has the same name. Travelling there is like stepping back in time; the city is remarkable and offers visitors an authentic colonial experience amidst one of the most picturesque colonial backdrops to be found anywhere in Mexico. Guanajuato is clean, tidy, and very safe. Its cobbled streets twist and turn, so just walking around is an adventure. The citys maze-like layout often creates opportunities for serendipitous encounters, with visitors discovering things they had never planned to see, but are glad they did.

San Miguel de Allende is one of the most popular towns in Mexico both among Mexicans and the foreigners. It is located 100 kms from Leon. The town is a Unesco world Heritage site since 2008. It has a big expat community for that reason its colonial center is full with restaurants and bars. Despite being a small town, San Miguel has lots to offer and discover.

Participation fee

Volunteers will have food and hosting provided during the camp. Due to lack of communal resources for this camp we ask participants to contribute 75 Euro towards the costs of general administration. Great cultural exchange project for personal enrichment by helping to improve the lives of indigenous children!

Project

The goal of this project is to share your culture with indigenous children and indigenous youngsters. Also you will be acquiring life skills and tools to improve the quality of life of the local population through promoting respect and mutual learning and growth.

Work

Volunteers with the students of the university Puebla will organize workshops of crafts, recycling, ornamental and botanical gardening, dancing, painting and cooking international dishes. You will also help with the construction of gardens, put in practice the cultural exchange through dance and language workshops. Volunteers will help in cleaning activities and maintenance of the Houses of the Indigenous Children.

This project is the perfect opportunity to learn or improve your Spanish and indigenous languages!



Accommodation

Volunteers will be hosted in a private house with all facilities, kitchen, dining room, sleeping rooms, place to wash clothes and hot water, there are no beds so please bring an air mat and sleeping bag.

Zacapoaxtla is located in the northern part of the State of Puebla and it has 8062 inhabitants. Located 172 km from the capital of the state which is also called city of Puebla.

Travel to Michoacan in order to help preserving a UNESCO World Heritage site!

Project

The Monarch Butterfly Reserve is located between the state of Michoacan and the state of Mexico, in the central part of Mexico. It is under a threat of disappearance due to environmental contamination and the lack of environmental consciousness. The habitants of the region contributed to deforestation in the area as it is their main source of income. The project aims to help the conservation of the butterfly reserve with the help of volunteers.

Work

The Butterfly reserve has 12 sanctuaries and 4 of them are open to public. The volunteers mainly be working at the Sierra Chincua Sanctuary which is located nearby the town of Angangueo, Michoacn. The work will focus on restructuring the natural habitat of the butterflies in order to prevent the extinction and protect future generations. There will also be activities organized for reforestation, sanitation and cleaning, strengthening the infrastructure by using environment-friendly methods. In addition, the volunteers will be organizing campaigns to increase the awareness of the locals and the tourists.

Location

The camp will be organized nearby the town of Angangueo which is among the magic towns (Pueblo Magico) in Mexico. The word Angangueo means the town between the mountains as that is where it is located and the town is where the butterflies selected to pass the winter. As you will be working there, you will have time to dicover this beautiful town and try the delicious Michoacan cuisine.

This camp is open for young people who is sensible to arts and to support and be empathic with children that are recovering from illness, we request very motivated volunteers!





Leisure time

During their free time, the volunteers can spend time in Morelia city. Morelia is the state capital of Michoacan and its a dynamic and beautiful city. Also, Morelia is an increasingly popular destination, and rightly so: the colonial heart of the city is so well preserved that it was declared a Unesco World Heritage site in 1991, and its cathedral is not just gorgeous, its inspirational. You can walk in downtown which has many cultural activities and discover the variety of historic buildings and monuments.

Morelia, founded in 1541, was one of the first Spanish cities in Nueva Espaa. The first viceroy, Antonio de Mendoza, named it Valladolid after the Spanish city and he encouraged Spanish nobility to move here with their families. In 1828, after Nueva Espaa had become the Republic of Mexico, the city was renamed Morelia in honor of local hero Jos Mara Morelos y Pavn, a key figure in Mexicos independence.

Discover the UNESCO World Heritage city of Morelia and participate in a recreational project!

Project

The objective of this project is to increase the consciousness regarding following the rules of traffic. In Morelia, the cyclists and pedestrians are in a vulnerable position especially at the intersections. In order to decrease the number of accidents, the volunteers will help recreating the intersection signs and will contribute to creating mechanisms to analyze other projects relate to the motorized mobility in cities and its problems.

Work

Volunteers are expected to be creative, active and eager to take initiative. They should also be collaborative, tolerant and flexible while working. The volunteers will be working and modifying certain intersection signs on the streets of Morelia on conflicting points for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. They will also be working on creating some murals on pedestrian areas of the city. They can also contribute to the project with examples from their own countries.

Participate in this exciting intercultural project and discover the beautiful states of Queretaro and Guanajuato!

Project

This is a very special project that will be organized in two different cities/states of Mexico. The first week the volunteers will be in the city of Queretaro and the second week will be organized in one of the most beautiful towns in Mexico, San Miguel de Allende. The project aims to motivate the young people to be more environment friendly, respect the green spaces and help their restauration. In addition, it will focus on improving the lives of people with less opportunities with youth action. If you are interested in meeting locals, discover new places, exchange life stories and leaving a mark in peoples lives, this project is for you!

Queretaro is a colonial city with an increasing youth population. Its historical center is full with pedestrian streets, gorgeous plazas and baroque style churches. The Spanish took control of the city in 1531 and designated it the third city of New Spain. It was here where the fathers of Mexicos Independence Movement met in secret to discuss the overthrow of their Spanish rulers.

San Miguel de Allende is one of the most popular towns in Mexico both among Mexicans and the foreigners. The town is a Unesco world Heritage site since 2008. It has a big expat community for that reason its colonial center is full with restaurants and bars. Despite being a small town, San Miguel has lots to offer and discover.

Travelling there is like stepping back in time; the city is remarkable and offers visitors an authentic colonial experience amidst one of the most picturesque colonial backdrops to be found anywhere in Mexico. A very special project focusing on people with hearing discapacity in Morelia city!

Project

The main objective of this project is to increase the awareness and inclusion of people with hearing or talking disability by bringing people with same disability together. The priority will be given to people with hearing or talking impaired during the application process. People who worked with hearing impaired and/or can use a sign language can apply as well.

Work

The activities will mainly focus on sharing experiences of hearing impaired people coming from different countries. The objective is to reveal the difficulties in social, educative and work life and discover the similarities and differences between different countries. In addition, the participants will be creating a mural collectively to emphasize the inclusion of hearing impaired people in social and work life. There will be also touristic tours organized told in sign language and the participants will organize a FlashMob together.

Enlighten the day of children and youngsters recovering from cancer with good vibes and art workshops!

Project

The objective of this project is to develop workshops of art therapy where through music and visual art seeks to express various stages of the patients' awareness, through various plastic techniques that benefit reflection, expression and relaxation with workshops will led by professional plastic artists.

This project is supported methodologically by the Mexican Association for the Help of Children with Cancer, which is dedicated to the comprehensive care of children and adolescents of low resources suffering from Cancer.

Learn about entrepreneurship and share your own experiences with this intercultural project!

Project

The project will be organized at the Metropolitan Polytechnic University of Hidalgo. The objective of the project is to learn about entrepreneurship and share experiences collectively.

Work

During the project, workshops will be organized regularly. The workshops will be about business planning, networking, innovation. The volunteers are expected to participate in the workshops and contribute from their own experiences or examples from their countries. In addition, there will be meetings organized with local entrepreneurs. During the project some touristic visits are planned as well.

Help creating green spaces for retired people and unite with different communities!

Project

The main objective of the this project is to improve the lives of the people living in the retirement home by creating green spaces, planting fruits and vegetables and organizing activities with them. The project will be organized in cooperation with the municipality of Tolcayuca, Hidalgo. In addition the project also aims to bring volunteers and different communities from Hidalgo together.

Work

The first week of the project will be focusing on creating green spaces at the retirement home. During the second week the volunteers will be visiting different towns in Hidalgo such as Tizayuca, Zapotlan and Villa de Tezontepec and organizing activities with different communities. The volunteers are expected to work with the communities in order to increase the consciousness about eating organic vegetables and fruits, creating more green spaces, and reducing waste by using it as fertilizer or preparing a compost.

Exchange your culture and help indigenous woman to learn about human rights for health and peace.

Project

The objective of this project is to promote quality and education by creating a common and collaborative approach in the benefit of indigenous woman of Mexico, to share and discuss about human rights, access to health, violence prevention and peace promotion. For this project only female volunteers will be accepted.

Work

Volunteers will be part of the promotion team for activities that strengthen environmental education this will be done from 8:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Volunteers will help to organize environmental workshops for the students of local schools promoting environmental education, as well as a campaign to care for the environment in the various schools, finally volunteers will be key actors to coordinate the logistics of a big State Ecological Forum.

You will have a permanent mentor who can appeal in case of any doubt, if you care about the environment and have respect for animals is a project that will fascinate you.

SPECIAL NOTES: This project is only open to applications of female volunteers.

For volunteers who are interested in learning Spanish, a Spanish course will be organized in the city of Morelia, Michoacn before the start of each project. Total Cost: 110 Euros. It includes accommodation for 7 days at a Youth Hostel in Morelia city, Spanish classes with an experienced teacher for 15 hours, required materials to study and activities to practice Spanish. Only meals are not included.

The mission of this project is to work against the climate change and encourage local youngsters participation in in environmental care activities, applying techniques for the development of organic compost and vermicomposting as well as techniques for the separation of solid wastes and to participate in the reforestation of degraded areas, contributing to the mitigation of the effects caused by climate change.

Work

As international volunteer you will be an agent in charge of providing workshops on environmental education, and help to carry out practices on Eco technology learn from local experts and also share cases of successes from your country about environmental education, urban solid waste management, alternative energies and Eco techniques. Volunteers also will encourage cultural exchange with students, through English speaking clubs. Be the leader of one of the most exciting projects in Mexico!

Project

Vive Mexico has been organizing this project regularly in Rincon de Guayabitos, Nayarit since 2014. The main achievement of the project is to protect the sea turtles with the help of volunteers who will be cooperating with a team of biologists. Up to now, the project has been quite successful and has reached extraordinary results. Participating in sea turtle conservation is a great opportunity to discover the rather charming life of sea turtles. If you are a social person with group management skills, this camp can be for you! The camp language is English but as being the leader you should have some knowledge of Spanish.

Work

The volunteer will be the project leader and will be the responsible for the coordination of the activities that the group of international volunteers will engage in. Each MTV includes two short term projects that will be led by a volunteer except the last MTV18.13 which includes three short term projects to be led. Your tasks will be the following:

1. The volunteer has to arrive to Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico on the first day of the workcamp for a compulsory leader training course. During the training all the tasks will be explained in detail (reception of the volunteers, management of extra fee, recreational activities and time management). The volunteer will be traveling to La Penita de Jaltemba, NAyarit after staying for six days in Morelia. The travel costs will be covered by Vive Mexico.

2. To coordinate the reception of the volunteers

3. To organize activities with the local coordinator

4. To organize free time activities with the group

5. To submit reports of the activities planned to Vive Mexico

6. To take photographs during the workcamp

7. To encourage the volunteers to participate in the activities

The volunteers will be working at night from 20:00 to 08:00, four days per week with an average of thirty hours. Depending the number of turtles that come ashore, two teams might be formed among the volunteers. In this way, each group will be taking turns, working one night and taking the next night off for recovery. In addition, the weekends are also spared for resting. Some of the activities to be performed are:

1. Finding adult turtles and collect their eggs.

2. Moving the eggs to a protected place called Vivero.

3. Releasing newborn baby turtles into the sea.

4. Patrolling the beaches at night.

5. Making some reconstruction in the most important turtle camps of the region.

Volunteers will be hosted in a hotel in a shared room with all facilities at their disposal namely, private bathroom, hot water, swimming pool, WIFI, and air conditioning.

Rincon de Guayabitos, also known as Guayabitos, is a beach located in the astonishing Sierra Madre Occidental, in the state of Nayarit and bathed by the waters of the Pacific Ocean. It is a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to the cities of Tepic, Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta.

Leisure Time: During their stay in Morelia City, leaders can take a walk in downtown which has many cultural activities throughout the year, and discover the variety of historic buildings and monuments, for those looking to surround themselves by natural wonders, Morelia offers many options: 45 kilometers from Patzcuaros lake and the ancient pyramids of Tzintzuntzan, the magical towns of Cuitzeo, Patzcuaro and Santa Clara del Cobre, the islands of the Pancada, Janitzio among others that the native cultures identified as the border between worlds, and several ceremonial centers of the Mesoamerican pre-Hispanic times.

Once in Guayabitos, leaders enjoy various activities in one of the most attractive destinations in Mexico. The area extends approximately 300 kilometers along the coast, integrated by mountainous jungle and facing coastal islands. For those seeking a more rural and rustic side of Mexico, the Riviera has a massive open space for everyone along the Nayarit coast beaches, for those who want to relax, quiet beaches and other beaches with heavy waves for surfers. In their free time leaders can go on their own to Bahia de Banderas, Nuevo Vallarta, Punta Mita, Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit.

Work

Volunteers will be part of the Preparatoria Federal por Cooperacin "Melchor Ocampo" team and will be the facilitators of workshops and classes essentially prepared to practice English language, but also the other languages if the volunteer would like to share. Some of the activities to be developed are:

1. To prepare and provide English classes for the students of Preparatoria Federal por Cooperacin "Melchor Ocampo".

2. To drive workshops and dynamics to practice language and share their culture in an entertaining way.

3. To promote cultural exchange and international volunteerism

4. To produce creative teaching materials for language classes.

Volunteers also will encourage cultural exchange with students, through English speaking clubs.

Although a young City in terms of age, Ciudad Obregon is the agricultural heart of the state of Sonora. The 19th century marked the beginning of what has now become one of the most technologically advanced cities in the north of Mexico, leading the way in developing and advancing agricultural science and technology.
