DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE SCIENCE AND CONSERVATIONP.O.BOX 35064 DAR ES SALAAM

TANZANIA17th September, 2015Dear Sir/Madam

Re: REFERENCE LETTER FOR MR. MOSES JOEL SHIMBA

I am pleased to write a letter of recommendation for Mr. Shimba who has submitted his abstract entitled “The Effects of Agricultural Drainage on Fish Community Assemblages on Farming Lands in Tanzania: Can Fish species be used as Bio-indicators of Stream Water Quality?” as the main author to the Aquaculture 2016 Conference to be considered for the Young Researcher Award. I have known Mr. Shimba for 9 years now from the time he joined the University of Dar es salaam as an undergraduate student, majoring in Wildlife Science and Conservation, currently Mr. Shimba is a PhD candidate specialized in freshwater ecology focusing on Biomonitoring, Bioindication and Bioassesment of freshwater rivers using fish species and benthic macroinvertebrates as model organisms.

As a lecturer, I taught Mr. Shimba variety of courses in Aquatic ecology and proved to be a trusted young researcher. I have used him as my assistant in various aquatic studies on several occasions (EIA studies), all the time he has demonstrated that he is an intelligent and hardworking person.

I am confident that if his abstract will be selected for oral presentation he will be able to demonstrate his research skills and expertise. Therefore, I support his application for a Young Researcher Award Competition.
