What do the word listening mean to you?

Listening is a skill some people have and others do not.

I know listening is not that hard of a skill. Just think of it like, we you are listening to music

or to your friend. Think about how you focus on the words you are listening to from your Mp3 player/IPOD, and how well your focus on the words that comes out of friends mounts when you are gossiping.

When listening you should focus on the main points that the speaker is saying. Example “To day we are going to be learning about the four important strategies which are active listening, Memory ,action learning and using feedback. After you learn about each I would like for you to do research on each and write a paper on how each strategy could help you become a better learner.”

What are the mean points in the paragraph above.

Noticed I highlighted the words that you will mainly focus on.

One thing you should ask yourself before you listen to

someone. Is the subject/topic important to you?

Or are you just listening for fun?

Focus your attention on the subject. Compare and contrast material you

already no about the topic. Avoid distractions Participate (ask questions if something

is not clear to you.) Use feedback.

When you are listening at someone speck try not to be easy draw away from the topic.

try to comprehend (make clear) the material as well as you can. Because the more understandable the topic is ,the more interested you will be.

Also try to visualize yourself interacting with the topic.

When you compare and contrast, try to compare the information you are learning with material you learned in your passed.

Ask yourself questions so that the material you are learning could be less complex.

Set as close as you could to the speaker.

N outside actives (things going on other then what you are listening to.)

Avoid having side conversations. Such as texting or any other conversations that do not share a connation with the topic

Ask questions when need. If something is not clear to you, and nine out ten percent of the time you would get an answer to your question. And do not be afraid to ask a question because there is no such thing as a wrong question.

You should also write questions down a piece of paper, so you could go back and answer your own questions and test how good your listening skills are.

Come to class papered. Piggyback off of others comments, Share your

thoughts that relate to what others say ( say things like “this relates to what Kim said” or “I agree with Tim.”

Take advice from others rather you like it or not. Once you get alone you could then see if the advice works for you are not.

Apply it to things you could improve on.

Try to give others feedback. Be clear and descriptive.

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the memory?

Most students say to go over something numerous times. (which is true)

Some people are not good test takers but, were are some ways you could become a better test taker.

use visual images. Study/review material learned in class. Make rhymes and songs Take notes in the best method that

work for you.

If I were to ask you to example to me what area of concern means, some people many not remember the term by name. In this case an image of the topic might help some people refresh there memory.

By showing the image I guarantee I will get at least three more people welling to answers the question then before.

Carefully go over your notes as many times as need. (Practice makes better.)

If you have done a lot of studying and your still not catching on to what you are learning, you can try to create a poem or song in your best interest that works.

Example lets say you had a test and the material was a little difficult. You could come up with a song that happy you better retain information.

This step is very important. Because every main point you are hearing from the speaker, should be writing in your notes. And as I said before your notes is what you will be studying from. So it is very important that you take your notes carefully with full understated.
