poet and playwright, and one of the foremost figures of the 20th century. Yeats was a driving force behind the Irish Literary Revival and, along with Lady Gregory, Edward Martyn and others founded the Abbey Theatre, where he served as chief during its early years.

Connection

Yeats moved with his family to London when was two years old and lived there until he was sixteen. His mother’s traditional Irish songs and stories, and holiday visits to County Sligo, kept the connection to Ireland strong.

Nobel Prize Yeats studied at the Dublin

Metropolitan School of Art. In 1917, Yeats published The Wild Swans at Coole, and from then onward he reached and maintained the height of his achievement. In 1923, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Yeats passed away in Menton, France. Yeats was indisputably one of the most significant modern poets and confounded expectations by producing his greatest work between the ages of 50 and 75. Yeats was best known for his beautiful use of language in his poems.
