and or, the apple-*losso )olo&ring, $hi)h had so s$itl% and so oddl%

ae)ted Ash&rst t$ent%-si %ears ago, she $as still at ort%-three a

)oel% and aith&l )opanion, $hose )hee(s $ere aintl% ottled, and

$hose gre%-*l&e e%es had a)+&ired a )ertain &llness.

It $as she $ho had stopped the )ar $here the )oon rose steepl% to the

let, and a narro$ strip o lar)h and *ee)h, $ith here and there a pine,

(nee had gi#en o&t, and a))ording to their ap the% had still soe se#en

iles to go. The% $ere sitting on a *an( *eside the-road, $here a tra)()rossed alongside a $ood, resting the (nee and tal(ing o the &ni#erse,

the. The girl said:

tal(ing together and lolling against the $all and a short, elderl%,
